What an epic beta fish painting! Right when I was thinking "I just watch color spotlights to learn about the pigment properties and see the brand comparisons" you painted this gorgeous beta with a unicorn horn! Plus, I have never personally appreciated Pyrrol red so, I have to admit, I almost didn't even watch this episode. Thanks for opening my eyes and demonstrating those useful color mixes -I feel ready to give pyrrol red a place in my palette, haha.

This pigment is definitely on my palette as my warmest red and it is beautiful. I don’t know how I missed your video earlier but I love how your beta fish turned out. I really enjoy using the pyrrole red deep from Qor with this one. The deep one is transparent and they are wonderful for florals. Lately I have been into the reds and It isn’t possible to keep them all on the palette but they are present intube form. I enjoy your videos Denise and take care!😊

What a great painting! It's so vibrant and pretty. Also I do enjoy watching the mixing swatches! I sometimes have problems mixing violets because I get burgundy like colors instead and didn't know why sometimes worked and other times didn't, now I know it's probably because I don't use cool reds so thank you so much for the info! I usually can't tell if reds are cool or warm unless they are very orange like. PS: I bought my first Daniel Smith tube the other day and now I'm in love with how smooth and pigmented they are.

Amazing information! I have the Sennelier version of this pigment and it seems to be on the transparent and highly pigmented site. I enjoy mixing it with Payne's Grey and Phthalo Turquise the most. But there are also beautiful orange mixes as long as I am really careful with the amount of red :D

Wow, loved the fish 😍. Great video Denise. I also thought that it would be nice if you showed the swatches of other red colours when you mentioned them, I know that probably don't have any cadmiums etc but it would be interesting to see how the hue differs from other red pigments. Hope you are having a great day :)

YAY! I was eagerly anticipating this video. Pyrrol red is my go-to warm red usually. Oddly enough, I have also been painting bettas for July, which expanded into other water loving creatures. Must be the drought around here. Now that we've had rain finally, maybe I can get back to land loving creatures. I really like your guy. Super cute. Anyway, I really like your mixing choices, which gives me some ideas to use in the future... When I'm using PR 254 I tend to let it stand on its own, and tint it up or down to meet my needs, because as you said, it can be a bully. It DOES however, make a fantastic baseline colour for Iron Man's armour, which is the reason I originally bought it all those years ago.

When I saw the color the Only thing I could think of was either a Flamingo ( diluting pyrol red seems to make it a flamingo-ish color,lol ) or a typical chrismas cardinal. A Fish did not cross my mind hahaha I Love this style of showing mixes. But I REALLY lack the patience for it. Non the less. Credits from a fellow Jane Blundell addict :P

I too loved this beta fish so much so that I got the mug the print and the satchel bag for my mom for Christmas because she loves the red and Pyrol red is the closest to her lipstick tone she has been wearing for 55 years. I was really trying to get them for myself thinking she would not really be into them but she loves them!!! Serves me right for being sneaky but what can you do it’s always worked in the past??lol

You are so talented and so amazing. I absolutely love your work. More people need to see your work. One suggestion i would like to give is show your demo painting in the thumbnail of your colour spotlights. We know you and we know how amazing your work is. New people won't know that you are doing a painting after you explain about the colour and pigments and mixes and everything. Its possible that they might not want to look into the video because of the thumbnail coz they might probably think that its all about nerdy things of colour. Idk if I'm making any sense with my words. I hope my words are conveyed properly 😅😅
@InLiquidColor
@InLiquidColor 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tania! I definitely struggle with that for this series. I do wish I could somehow share the artwork I create for these in the thumbnail but these episodes are really about the pigments with only the last third person usually being the painting and I don't want people to think they'll get a time lapse as soon as they open the video. Also some of the pieces like this one turn out great, but others like the cobalt teal fall flat and I really want the thumbnails to be consistent. Perhaps if I was a better graphic editor I could come up with something that incorporated both... Maybe I'll give it a try :) I do however share them over on Instagram, and actually going to be doing a lot more time laspe and process pieces here that will have their own videos and thumbnails :) regardless thank you so much for your kind words, support, and wanting to see me succeed!

In Liquid Color... Nothing, nothing, NOTHING wrong with being nerdy! Keep up the great videos about colors! And paint your animals. There are a lot of channels showing painting demos, but few good channels about the paints themselves from someone who knows what they're doing. And, as an artist who is very interested in the characteristics of the pigments used, I am so glad to see an artist who cares.

I recently did some experimenting with this pigment and holy wow. This is an EXTREMELY and impressively versatile pigment/red color. I was shocked at how easily this red can be manipulated. I also have the color Pyrrol Scarlet by DS and did some side by side testing with Winsor Red (PR 254) because I couldn’t decide between the two for my main palette. I was amazed to find that by adding a tiny tiny amount of yellow (Hansa yellow medium or Winsor Yellow work the same- I tested with both) to the Winsor Red, it creates an EXACT dupe of the Pyrrol Scarlet. I don’t mean close. I mean exact. You cannot tell the difference at all. The color it makes looks like a glowing red, just like the warm Pyrrol scarlet. Absolutely beautiful. I was so impressed by this because the Winsor Red has a notable and slight blue cast to it when compared to the Pyrrol scarlet. So I didn’t expect it to be able to be manipulated by the yellow to create a bright warm slightly orangey red like that at all. Totally impressed by this. I can see why this is such a popular color. There’s no need for both reds. This red can easily be manipulated to be warm or cool. I LOVE IT.

I have the QOR version. It has a funny kind of flat hue, I see it as a pretty neutral red. It works the best out of reds I have tried for a very strong red, perhaps because it is a bit opaque. With PG7, I can mix very neutral neutrals and very dark darks.

What pencil is used for the sketch? Watercolor pencil? I have DaVinci Red (PR254), because I bought Denise's Earth Freindly Palette from DaVinci! It's an awesome palette, and it's a lovely color. I also have Daniel Smith's Pyrrol Scarlet (PR255 so slightly different) from the Essentials Set is more orange than the DaVinci Red which is more middle. I really love these "Color Spotlights", I feel like I'm getting to know these colors a little better, and it gets me excited to do my own color mixing! :D

That's interesting. The Sap Green seems to get some interesting skin tones if the mix is just right -medium/dark, with olive undertones, if that makes any sense. ugh can you help me win a discussion with my brother. He is a commercial painter...and I was doing a color swatch chart. He insists his latex paint uses the same pigments as my watercolor. Can you point me in the direction to prove him wrong? I tried to explain a majority of my paints come from a natural pigment, hence why they tell us pigment information and his paints do not. Of course if I was totally wrong, correct my ignorance.
@InLiquidColor

Sorry Linda, he's right! The pigments are the same across industries. It's the binders that change the type of paint. In the art industry, we're actually "at the mercy" of larger industries like the automotive industry, as our paints are such a small percentage of pigments used overall. That's how we lost quinacridone gold!

I am wondering what you think of these paints. I would love to see how it stacks up against all the other professional brands you have encountered.
