Thanks for these price-aware demos. So many reviewers ignore price, which is important to so many viewers.

Now I finally understand why it's called "Burgundy Yellow Ochre." I saw on your tube the Ochre comes from Burgundy, France.

This is very helpful! (along with the other Series' videos). Regarding your comment about greys that mix well or don't mix well, from my reading on Daniel Smith, the inorganic pigments don't mix well with the organic ones. D.S. uses this to their advantage in developing interesting mixes like Undersea Green. With your library of paints, it would be interesting to come up with a video on desirable inorganic/organic mixes. Just an idea for your copious spare time ;-).

I have never purchased Burnt Sienna from Daniel Smith. All this time, I have used Quinacridone Burnt Orange as a Burnt Sienna. It mixes with Fr. Ultramarine to create really nice darks. Daniel Smith doesn't sell the Essential 7 set with Susie Short's name on it. But, it used to. The set contained 7 15-ml tubes of paint. It was the most affordable way to purchase those 7 colors from Daniel Smith.

I have Daniel Smith's Quin Burnt Orange but have never thought to replace Burnt Sienna for it. It's darker than Monte Amiata I suspect but now that you mention it I'm super curious to try it out.

I personally prefer quin burnt orange to burnt sienna cause honestly burnt sienna just doesn't spark joy for me if that isn't a weird way to describe like I just hate looking at it for whatever reason and I dunno i seem to prefer luminescent colours more if that makes sense and plus I have burnt umber so I don't think I need another version of PBr7

I really enjoy this small vid series. Great idea! Is it possible to do a mashup of this series with the granulating one, i.e. how to make a versatile palette of only granulating colours? (For people who are all about the granulation life? LOL) Would be a cool end capping video for your 'granulating colours' video series too.

Series 2 paints (from Daniel Smith) that I have in my palette (that you don't have in yours).. I still have a couple of tubes of Quin Gold (PO49), I use Quin Burnt Orange instead of Burnt Sienna, Permanent Alazarin Crimson and Quin. Pink... I too LOVE Hansa Yellow Medium, French Ultramarine and Sap Green... I also have a few Holbein colors and Schmincke colors in my palette. I do enjoy your color study videos very much.

Hello Teoh, I am currently changing my studio pallet and have many of the series two colors you described in today’s video. I also love M.A. natural sienna and am looking for a transparent cool red so will give Pyrrol Crimson a go with swatches and see how that works. Great video !

Great series, really helpful to look at colors by series. I think DS Series 2 Anthraquinoid Red PR177 is also an excellent alternative to Pyrrol Crimson (or Alizarin Crimson), it's currently my favorite crimson mixing color. And just want to mention that LF II isn't fugitive, LF IV is fugitive [ ASTM lightfastness ratings: LF I=Excellent (100+ years), LF II=Very Good (100 years), LF III=Fair (50-70 years), LF IV=Fugitive (15-20 years) ] although, the ratings don't always reflect the reality for some colors like Prussian Blue, Rhodonite and a few others in many brands, they're more of a lab rating than tested in the sun :)

Hi Teoh, I noticed that the ferrules of some of your brushes have lost their chrome coating, I realize they have had lots of use 😉, but was wondering if you think that is from the chlorine in your water or from the chemical makeup of the paint in the rinse water? Thank you for the videos you create. I have learned so much from you.

Thank you so much for another great video Teoh! I was curious if you've ever tried out Daniel Smith's Manganese Blue Hue for that Cerulean slot? It's Series 1 and Daniel Smith has replaced the original Manganese (PB33) with PB15. I know that's Pthalo Blue but Daniel Smith's site says it's a good subsitute for Cerulean Blue.

currently, here is my palette: PY154, PR209, PB15:3 and PB15:1... seems like the only series 2 color that I use is Quin Coral (PR209)... Daniel Smith doesnt have PY154 for some reason and both blue is pthalo colors, PB15:3 is Manganese Blue Hue and PB15:1 is Pthalo Blue Red Shade, so they are both in series 1. it turn out that I'm using some pretty economic paint without knowing it.. XD

I like to see the colours used to create the mixture. You can of course mix in palette first before applying to paper. That will produce a more thoroughly mixed colour. But I'm not going for those colours

@teohyc
@teohyc 5 жыл бұрын
Looks can be deceiving. This paper is actually not very good for wet on wet. Paint will not move much. I have the paper tilted in this video that’s why the paint was able to flow a bit better. I’m using this paper because it’s whiter and colours appear vibrant, which makes it a good paper for creating colour swatches.
