It's an interesting period in history, so many different ideas and developments around that time. Did Kandinsky also use their ideas?

Kandinsky was definitely very interested in color theory, and he even wrote a book about it, in which he described the physical and emotional impact of different colors. He focused perhaps more on the impact of specific colors, where Matisse was a bit more intuitive in his use of color

i'm intrigued by the way the bright colors of these artists are still based on the real subject in light - warm and cool, close and distant, in shadow and light. a cooler shadow becomes a bright blue, yellowish light can orange or red. a heightening of the internal impression

Right, the original idea of some of these artists was that color theory would allow them to capture light more accurately, which is why many went to the South of France where they could witness the bright light more often.
