The equipment at the mine with the electric motor was an air compressor, The rock drills that the miners used to set the dynamite ran on compressed air. Silverton and it's surrounding mines were some of the first cities in the US to receive large scale electric power. I have been to that exact site on the red mountain trail, we also took a tour of a mine that went about a mile inside a mountain on a rail car.

That is most definitely the way to explore the scenery - open to the surroundings.

The fact you were doing all those trails in 2WD just shows how capable these machines really are. Really an amazing feat of engineering! There are a few other fascinating channels here on KZbin that focus on exploring abandoned mines. Some of the equipment and relics they find are quite fascinating. I remember going through the Park City Mine adventure in Park City, UT before they closed. It was really neat to see the mines in person. I wish it was still open to the public.

Thanks for posting these videos. Driving vintage Jeeps around the beautiful mountains of Colorado is awesome! I've done the Willys Colorado Fall Colors Tour and that was wonderful. Working on building something a little newer for my next trip to the southwest. My 47' Willys 2A isn't the right vehicle for covering the vast distances out there. It would be fun to do this with more people and with similar Jeeps. And you planning another trip in the future?

Hello from Northern Wisconsin. Enjoying the video with your CJ. We had our ‘80 CJ5 out there 20 years ago. We now pull a small travel trailer with our 4Runner. We unhook and explore with the 4Runner. Wish we could fold the CJ up and toss it in the glove box. We’ve done most of the trails around there, but will have to put this mining area on our list. Just curious, what map book are you using?

A Dana 20 tfc doesn't have to be wore out to get in-between gears what happens is the 4x4/4x2 shift rail will move first and disengage the 4x4 spur gear before the high/low rail moves ALL d20's will do this. Some will do this more than others because the center whole in the little flat bars that connects the two rails was drilled off center giving more leverage on the 4x4 rail making it move first. I have done this by design before sometimes you have to grind a little off the lock lug ( the lug between the rails) to make room so the 4x4/4x2 can move just enough to pass the spur. I like the video. I like Rusty as well. I've been fooling around with old jeeps for 35 years and still love the older cj's . God bless

@@kevinbrewer9421, thanks for that great explanation! I really like the 2 low and honestly use it more around the farm than 4 low. These are tough little machines! 😁 Thanks for watching and adding to the conversation!

We need to Jeep together. We have a 1982 CJ7 and overland trailer . I think my sister sent you pics of our set up . We are in Meridian,Ms . I’m looking to do exactly what y’all did here , trailer my Jeep with the overland trailer to CO. Boy do I have a lot of questions. I’ll see if my sister can give you my contact info at church . I want to plan a NC trip with the Jeep as well . We have done the entire Natchez trace and went to Southern CJ Jeep show an swap meet in Kingston GA . We try to drive it as much as possible but CO is a bit far to drive a 42 year old Jeep

Yes! Yes! Let’s please get together and talk! My two favorite things are Jeeping and camping. I’ve been working towards those two things coming together. I recently bought an M416 military trailer to outfit to overland camp. Colorado seems to be much more open to this idea than anywhere I have ever been. I have a lot of questions for you on the camping side. Please let’s get together soon.

Where do you drop your car hauler at in the City? As popular as off-roading is, I'd guess there are surely options.

@@carloskerley219 we stayed in Ouray Inn and there was parking on the street beside. There were at least 3 other trailers lined up there as well. I did notice several other big parking lots closer to the trailheads. They are prepared for these scenarios at least in Ouray and Silverton that I visited.
