I'm Japanese. I watched your video as a beginner in mountain climbing. I don't understand English because I use a translator. I can't even read comments. I want to tell you. Thank you for the best view. I think mountain climbing is the best sport to connect with people all over the world.

Having been a backpacker in my beautiful home state since the 1970's...then introducing my children at a young age to high country backpacking...I now find myself at 71 and living voraciously and viscerally watching these hike through videos that I'm totally addicted to as an alternative and nostalgic reminder of all one's senses alive. Thanks

These are my home mountains!! Glad you enjoyed them as much as I do. 4:56 is a view of Engineer Mountain. A really fun, if not highly trafficked, day hike. 7:40 is segment 27 behind Purgatory Mountain Resort and is another much less popular day hike. Its accessible from forest road 578, also called Hermosa Parkway. With a decent 4x4 you can go up forest road 40 and youll be about a 3 or so mile hike from where that view is.

Thank you for this video Darwin. I am from Pagosa Springs, 60 miles east of Durango, and this video brought some tears and a large smile to my face. I don't live in that area anymore and this video made me a little homesick. Those shots of home in southwest Colorado were breathtaking.

Thank you Darwin! I got terrible hay fever and did not bring antihistamine (which I gotta bring next time) when I hiked the San Juan section of the CT. The wild flowers were stunning in 2019, but gave off a lot of polin. I weighed nearly 300 pounds, so I could only manage 10-15 miles a day. Got pelted with bird shot hail descending to Taylor Lake. I want to go back and do it all again. I lost 50 lbs in 2020 and gained muscle. Next time I will be up for it.

With the Weminuche Wilderness as my backyard, I really enjoyed this series. Much love for the Colorado backcountry. Anyone interested in a bit different dynamic, check out trekking in Nepal. Hiking from teahouse to teahouse in the Himalayas is an amazing experience. Kathmandu, and the amazingly diverse people/cultures of Nepal are definitely something worth experiencing more than once.

Great video, Darwin. I totally agree with the statement that someone can both want a thru hike to end and not end the final miles on trail. When I thru hiked the Sheltowee Trace this summer, my body was so worn out but I knew my mind and spirit would miss being on the trail so much!

Wow! Congrats on another challenge completed. You've been quite an inspiration. After my thru hike attempt was cancelled because of Covid and then a heart attack. I pretty much mentally gave up. Little by little I've worked my way back. Your videos have, and more realistically your experiences have helped me to strive forward. Thru hiking is for now on the back burner but little by little I want to do this, so through yours and others experience I'll keep that dream alive. Thank you.

collegiate runner- I had achilles problems during this summer which put a delay on my running. i learned alot from that and I found that zero drop shoes (altras) are terrible for a bad achilles because they let it pretty much completely extend/strain each time you take a step. instead with a shoe that has a higher heel than toe (stack height) this relieves some strain on the achilles which allows it to heal better. also for me my main problem my calves not being strong but idk if thats anything for you because your calves look strong. also, the kt tape does help and relieves strain on the achilles (i had to use it until my calves were strong enough). hopefully this can help.

Have you ever addressed your vision on the trail? Specifically how you keep your glasses clean and safe? Do you have special hiking frames, or do you just use your daily pair? What about a case or lenses cleaners? Do you wear prescription sunglasses? I have only ever really worn glasses at night for the longest time, and have been anxious about them the last two times I went backpacking. Thanks.
