Something that helped us is that if you’re ever able to add a bit of time on the front end and even drive up some altitude, that acclimatization has helped keep folks from getting sick as bad.

Hope your trip is great. The scenery is fabulous! I have the Katabatic Gear Palisade 30d quilt. I sleep very warm. I have had the 30d rated quilt down to 19 several times and been plenty warm. I highly recommend this quilt. It has a differential cut which keeps you from compressing the down at the shoulders, elbows, and knees. Justin from Backcountry Exposure just released a video of his favorite gear. He has a new quilt he was very impressed by. I don’t remember the name, but he liked the features and felt the temp rating was accurate. It also has a differential cut to prevent cold spots.

Just checked Justin’s video. First is Justin from Justin Outdoors. Second, the name of the quilt is Rockfront Base UL.

Free Pro tip: I have heard that mustard and pickles are good for altitude sickness. It’s the only thing that tastes the same going down as it does coming up. 😬👍🏼

I’ve got some altitude suggestions for you that work for me. These were what NOLS suggested when I took a course. Stop using caffeine about a week before you go on your trip. Start drinking water also the week before (about a gallon a day.) Most people are slightly dehydrated. Fitness level matters. The more fit you are the less likely you will have altitude issues. Spend a night or 2 at altitude before you go on your hike. Denver doesn’t count. It’s not high enough. Over 8000 feet.

Hi Crow have a great time on your adventure. Little note on the Flextail pillow. I have the regular size pillow and it will not fit a 25” pad. Fits a 20” pad just fine. Hike safe and have fun my friend! 🦉

In 2021 I did Denver to Breck sec 1-6, 2022 Breck to Twin Lakes. Original plan for next year was to continue on from Twin lakes and do the CW. But maybe I'll do this Silverton to Durango instead. Its just hard to get to the trailheads traveling from Ohio. Hmmmm. I have 10 months to figure it out. Have you ever used Leuko tape? Way better than any mole skin or band aids.
