I started getting silver hairs around 13. They really started to take off in my mid 20s. I'll be 30 next month and have never dyed my hair before, mostly because I just couldn't be bothered by it (aside from a couple of brief moments when other people tried to pull me down). I embraced my silvers much sooner than I did my curly hair. Your advice on how to deal with and style curly grey babies has been so so helpful. And just seeing someone so unbelievably beautiful and genuine taking the time to help people like me navigate our curly hair journey is amazing. I was really on my own and failing when it came to my hair for almost my entire life, but now I'm starting to feel a little more empowered. So thank you for sharing your journey with all of us!

I’ve been embracing my natural texture and colour for a long while now... I’m so happy you’re speaking up about the unrealistic standards we’ve been subjected to. I really hope you do more videos on silver hair... I need all the tips I can get! Also, this video somehow gives me “permission” to funk it up with temporary colours... for the longest time I felt like I’d be “giving in the to the man”. lol.

I had my own color to transition to gray, it had my colorist highlight the crap out of my hair so I could go gray "more naturally". Holy cow, I had literally "Witches" hair for like 9 months. It was terrible, but the end goal was in my vision. Now I have been gray for about 3 years and have gone from long hair to pretty short...I'm so ready to do what you are doing right now!!! My hair makes me feel sooooo old and I don't feel old at all (47). Thank you so much for making this video, I'm gonna color my hair tomorrow because you have inspired me to get out of this boring funk.

I sooo totally loved your tutorial... You have such a great cool vibe... You made this not only informative, but lots of fun too! I came because of my insistent curiosity, but stayed after feeling connected to your electric personality. As an older man (52) and growing it out for the first time in my life... I’m at 18 months and still going, I have tons of questions about literally the basics... I have the typical very grey temples that I affectionately call my “dog ears” but the rest is very close to your color and texture... I wouldn’t have described my hair as curly... it’s more of a zig-zag, but thanx for showing the products and techniques that help achieve your beautiful results! You look fantastic! With your recommendation, I think I’m gonna find the courage to give it a try too. Thanx for the inspiration! Be well pretty lady! This was very cool. 😻

I love how this turned out! I don't have many grey hairs myself - maybe max 10% - but they don't bother me other than for the fact they're generally thicker and straighter than the rest of my hair. Still wavy, but they tend not to spiral, and that can be annoying. So I'd definitely be here for more videos about how you embrace that variation in texture!

I so appreciate younger beauties like you embracing your gray. I am 54 and stopped dying 3 years ago. I LOVE my gray curls. But so many of my age friends still dye. So...do I look 75? I wear more eye makeup so it doesn’t feel like I am too natural in a negative way. I love doing Arctic fox color every so often. It washes out over a month and adds fun pops. You are gorgeous. So sorry you took time to accept yourself.

Amazing color! Being a purple haired 2c curly myself (don't let my profile pic fool you), I came to find that using a semi-permanent purple mixed with plain white (CG approved) conditioner does essentially the same as the overpriced stuff you used, plus you can play around with how dark or light you make the mixture. Punky color has great colors and is CG friendly and so is Arctic fox.

I just have to say I LOVED this video so so much! I got my first greys around 18 and would always switch where my part was every year or so to hide them. Started trying some box dyes around 25 for about a year and was just over it after such a short time! My greys are now focused around the same spot as yours! Just started trying to get my curly hair back 2 months ago and your hair. Omg. It's literally MY absolute goal hair. it's MY hair, or what it could be, but 20x better and more amazing. I strive to have your hair and am so happy watching your videos!

I loved the purple with your skin tone and eye colour. I'm 48 and got my first white hairs (I'm blonde and completely bypassed grey direct to white) just over a year ago. They're fairly subtle and just really at the front of my hair - top and sides. I do a modified cgm whereby I still get my hair highlighted, I just like my highlights and they blend in the white hairs. Once the white gets to be more than just localized I will probably just go with it - hey free highlights so why not. Grey hair that is moisturised and well kept can look amazing on any age, just look at all the silver hair currently sported by young women. My waist length when wet/straight, blonde hair is a look I have sported for many years and I just wouldn't feel like me without it. I'm embracing my curls and my hair is looking healthier, but it wasn't wrecked beforehand as I looked after it pretty well. Due to the course texure it was always strong hair and I had a lot of it. Unfortunately, as I had some hormone problems I went through a spell of thinning around 18 months ago, but that is now resolved and my hair is thick again. It was when I was having problems with my hair I began the cgm and from the wavy hair I thought I had, now have 2c/3a spiral curls. Apart from the highlights and diffusing I do follow the cgm (it takes 10 hours to airdry from wet). I think it's important that the decision to go grey (or white) is very personal and is either coming from aesthetics or how confident a person is. If I was predominantly grey I would probably embrace it as my hair grows very quickly, but highlights is the right decision for me right now. Best wishes.

It beautiful, I've been growing in my grays for two years, it's been a challenging time with being curly too. 7 months ago I tried Arctic Fox purple rain, it was supposed to be a quick fix to make me feel better, as it was getting me down the darkness of my hair, I would have loved it all silver but mine was dark grey, like steel with a tiny bit of silver, now its PURPLE! My quick fix didn't really wash out or fade, after 12 weeks I thought I'd better just do my roots. I don't know whether it's because my hair has been cg or because it was undyed so porous but it's not washed out. I have to say I love it now and people stop me in the streets and say they love it. 💕

It looks so freaking good! What a fun way to change it up sometimes. I wish I would have let mine go gray after my daughter was born, it was fairly grown out but I just couldn't do it. I've had grays since I was 14, but my pregnancy in my 30s really amped them up. My dad has lovely white hair, and I think mine will be that too. I have an eventual game plan to grow them all in, and one of these days I will. 💖

Your color looks lovely, and it's good to have fun with your hair! You're braver than I am. I grew out my grays in 2013 and it took almost two years and I can't imagine doing that again! And I love the color my hair is these days, though I've noticed my curl texture has changed as I've grayed. The only time I feel at all negative about my grays? When I see photos, my first thought is sometimes that it makes me look old, but then I remind myself that I LOVE my color, so who cares if the photos don't look great? Have fun!

Ur hair looks great💕!! In the back it looks more pastel, when u flipped ur head over I could tell. I too have curly hair, mine is 3C. The majority of my gray's are bunched in the middle of my head, where my crown is. Then I have a few small groupings in the front near my temples. I am definitely looking to color them using either overtone or XMondo color conditioners. I too started to get gray's young as it runs in my family. So our hair stories are quite similar. Since I haven't colored my hair in like 7 years. I wasn't sure if I needed to bleach the grays first or what to do. Ur video has been the only helpful info I have found including reading articles, watching videos, etc... so thank u for sharing. Hopefully I can record it when I color it. I'm wanting an "oil slick" color pattern. I also have been thinking of cutting some curly bangs, but idk yet. I would love to hear your thoughts.😁

Listening to your journey to embracing your grays really speaks to me. I feel like it was so, so, so similar to mine. I too found my first guy in late high school, plucked them out through college, and colored every 4 to 6 weeks though my 20s and early 30s. In 2020, I decided to just let my roots go as part of embracing the age of 35. Mostly because in the last year to 15 months, I feel like I went from "sparkley" to "gleaming". I've been looking at Overtone for a while to get some fun color in. Thank you for sharing, as this is EXACTLY the color I was hoping to get.

I love your message. I stopped dying and embraced my grays when I got pregnant with my 2nd child, it’s been about a year now. I have been using Overtone to help blend the new growth and having fun creating various shades of reds and purples. When it gets long enough I plan on chopping it so there isn’t such a distinct line of differing colors. I may even start playing with the grays and lavenders at that point. I hate that gray on a man is still considered sexy but the same isn’t true for women. I’m hoping to change that stigma.

Thanks for the video. I have seen videos of ladies letting their grays shine, but none with curly hair like me. I'm in my early 30's and a few gray strands are coming in. I have thought about not even starting to color them since I'm a little curious as to how they will look. No one in my family has let either their curly or gray hair just be so I'm a really intrigued how mine might come in. Thank you for the tips. I have seen some of your styling videos and it was eye opening since I never thought that maybe grays might prefer some products over other. So thanks so much.💕

hi Jannelle, I'm happy that you are back! I have missed your videos. Your color is becoming, but your gray was also. My gray is not pretty at all because I'm naturally blonde. Blondes going gray look very mousy. Not pretty, so I just use a demi color in blonde to match my blonde. If I ever see pretty gray coming in, I will be very happy. I was going to mention Loraine Massey, but I see that you have already been connecting with her. That's good. Looking forward to hearing more from you...

LOVE that color on you!!! Do you know how long overtone stays on your hair and does it wash completely out? I've been growing out my gray for 14 months and have a few inches of the dyed hair left. I've really been struggling the last few weeks with wanting to dye but I refuse to until I'm completely natural. I don't feel like you can decide if you love your natural until that's all you have. I found my first gray before I was 14 so I have lots of gray. I've been considering dying a rose gold so this may be my perfect solution. Thank you for the post. Definitely helping me stay strong

I love my silver curls! I did it I two phases. I embraced the gray first, then I embraced the curls. I simply just got tired of keeping up with the dye. I was going every 4 weeks for a professional color and always felt like I was losing an endless battle. I mean, who was I kidding when that streak of bright silver was showing through against the dark brown after just one week anyway? I asked my daughter if she thought it looked like I was letting myself go if I decided to go gray. Her response was, “I think it makes you look like a badass!” A badass, silver haired curly girl - yep, that’s me haha - and I love my daughter!

I love the new color!! My curls and color is very close to yours, when I was about your age I started coloring to cover my silvers, that led to 30 years of coloring every darn month! I stopped coloring & let it grow out. O my, my hair was now trying to come in fuzzy, dry white! By chance, I started taking a handful of vitamins, including biotin and my hair is now shiny silver!! I wonder, if 30+ years ago if vitamins would have saved me 30 yrs of coloring.....Have fun!!

Purple hair is awesome! I always thought I was going to lose my hair color early because my great-grandmother who had hair exactly like mine went white at 30. But 30 came and passed without a change. Once I hit 50 I thought it would be happening, but it wasn't until very recently that I found some white hairs coming in. I'm not panicking. I'm 55 and I've earned my white hair. I'm going to rock it platinum!

I love the color!!! I would love to go purple but I have a conservative job. My hair hasn’t been dyed in a year and a half, and before that I let my gray streak come out in the front. I absolutely loved the uniqueness of having that streak and the contrast to when I would dye my hair a deep auburn. Fast forward to now. I got tired of spending the time and money towards maintaining my hair color. Along with the work where the community of people I work with wouldn’t believe the amount of experience I have because apparently I look a good ten years younger than my actual age. So I’ve gone gray and curly and don’t plan to go back. I absolutely love the look and feel so much more ‘me’ and that’s where the confidence lies. One day I may swipe some of my daughters fun funky hair dye for a streak tho. But til then ✨

I’ve been getting an occasional gray hair ever since I was a teen. My grays then have been growing in since I was 36. I’m 49 now, and according to my hairdresser, I’m only 10% gray, although it seems like more sometimes! The rest of my hair is medium brown, so the grays really stand out. I’ve really hated them at first, but in recent years I have learned to embrace them. Because of my hair color, if I were to dye my hair in a vain attempt to cover them up, I would be constantly touching up my roots! Not worth it! My grays are my “silver wisdom highlights!” 😉

I also found my first gray during teen years. I stopped coloring in my twenties (I am also a rebellious, formerly mormon woman). I really appreciate the tips on gray. I'm only in my second week of CGM. They are so contrary.

Omg. I have salt and pepper hair and have been hesitant on the purple overtone I bought, I’m so curious how it faded out!

Splat midnight ruby works amazing in my dark brown hair. If this one doesn't stay in long you should see if splat works.

As a salt and pepper gal, it's hard to find videos like this, so thank you so much! I bought 2 bottles of arctic fox Wrath, and if it turns out anything like yours, I'll be happy :)

Hi Janelle, I just came across your channel trying to find what color I could use to color my Grey hair into grey/light purple. I enjoyed your show & I subscribed to it too. I was wondering if you could let me know what I should get. Thank you so much!

Beautiful I’m going to do it! How long did it stay in? I know the punky conditioner stays in for weeks in mine.😊

Hi, I’m a new subscriber to your channel. I love your mojo and the information you seem to have on gray & curly hair! I’m about 6-7 weeks into letting my grays grow out, so that I can stop the tedious job of getting my roots colored dark brown to cover up my grays, every few weeks. So just recently I have been really curious about other women that have done it & how they’ve gone about doing it plus, any other styling tips they might have for gray hair! This was an excellent video plus the one on using olaplex. I really want to try the olaplex 3 treatment! Anyways...thanx for your tutorials!! 💕

Thank you! I’m a 43yr old curly that is finally embracing my curls properly and seeing just how curly I am after 25yrs of straightening and colouring! I also have a few greys starting to sprout and I’m a little scared to embrace them. My plan was to use an overtone type coloured conditioner to cover them but maybe I should just let them be? Xx

The final color looked great on you! I've always wanted to color my hair but scared of the damage, but maybe one day! :)

Overtone is just conditioner with color in it. It doesn't damage your hair and it's temporary.

I love the way it turned out! I’m 5 months in and I’m loving it, but sometimes I want to change it. Is overtone temporary?

Love it. It looks so good on you. I really want to get my hair colored, but I’m pretty scared of ruining my progress, because my hair finally is getting healthy. I’m 37 and I’m starting to get a few grays, and I’m just not ready to let it grow out, if I had the money to get it highlighted and colored gray/silver I would

Ugh I love your laugh!!! I like the purple how it turned out. :) curious how it fades. I loved the idea of giving a sort of precious loving name to the grey hairs. I’ll have to think of one for myself.
