0:27 Colorism is huge in the movie, tv, and music industry in the US. There's multiple tv shows where dark skinned cast members get replaced by light skinned actors. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is a good example of this. Aunt Viv in S1-2, then Aunt Viv in S3-7.... Most times, though, the lead actress is usually light skinned, even if the lead actor is dark skinned.... This is in hollywood, though. A lot of indie films in the US don't run into this problem.

The job and hiring situation (as far as being less likely to get hired) is wrong (as in it shouldn't be that way) But when it comes to the romantic and dating preference, it is what it is. People like what they like. Can't force someone to pick someone if that's not what they're attracted to. And as far as showing empathy for masculinity, i most certainly will not. The Godfather said it best: if i wasn't on my business and was broke and unproductive would a BW have empathy on my situation? No she would not. So i couldn't care less WHY she's masculine. A masculine woman is a no-go and she'll get left behind 🤷🏿♂️ I'm a very successful brotha with desirable traits a wide variety of women find attractive. Not gonna be graceful or empathetic or patient and wait on some woman to find her femininity just cuz she's a BW. Gonna go with my best option at that moment, regardless her ethnicity

@@a.r.tavares1322Having dark-skin parent(s) doesn't mean a child is necessarily going to inherit those particular traits. For instance, two deeper tone parents can have a light skin child. This is fact. More over, if you knew anything about African American and Carribean/West Indian history and lineage, you would KNOW that technically speaking both ethnicities, African Americans and Caribbean/West Indians are "mixed race" people regardless of how deep their skin tone presents. Over 80% of African Americans carry some European lineage (sometimes some Native American ancestory). Both Beyonce's father and Rihanna's mother most likely carry European and Native lineage considering the history of the regions they derive from...🤦♀️Do you actually think that because someone has a deeper complexion, they still don't carry their European and Native American traits? It is forever imprinted in their DNA. What do you think happens when these "deeper tone" AAs/FBA and West Indians reproduce with lighter/mixed bp? People really need to educate themselves about genetics and traits. Black people who descend from the black diaspora and black ancestral slavery should know these truths. We should be beyond dictating what people should look like--especially diaspora bp, solely by the appearance of their parents.

This ideology only leads to more dysfunction and chaos. Why use the language that light skin women are “taking roles” from dark skinned women, instead of just recognizing those women received those roles but there’s also roles for dark skin women to occupy and succeed, but the reality is there would be more of those roles if Black people controlled their media and Africans controlled theirs. Beyoncé’s more successful because she’s more talented and it’s disingenuous to say otherwise because if Kelly was the more talented one it would be evident in her work, Kelly has admitted this herself so why continue to push the narrative it’s about skin color?Also you’re basing this on the racial dynamics in the west specifically the U.S and how it’s exported to the world including the U.K which gets a lot of its culture from America, which is a whole topic in itself.
@LoneRanger-et7gq4 ай бұрын
I agree with you to a certain extent. However, as a lightskin bw, it is ridiculous to note and highlight the ways in which yte supremacy flourishes throughout our society and not address how being in close proximity to whiteness isn't beneficial to light skinned bm/bw. Because it is! This video would have been more informative without the Beyonce and Kelly comparisons, most of us bw (light and deep) are not as privleged as Beyonce and Kelly. However, I agree, comparing Kelly to Beyonce is a tired trope. Considering that Beyonce is one of the hardest working musicians in show business, legends such as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Tina Turner acknowledged Beyonce's greatness and vocal ability and agility. Kelly Rowland, who is beautiful and also very talented, has admitted that she wished she would have worked a little harder at reinforcing her presence in the industry. Let's not forget; she was the first member to break out and have a number one hit with Nelly. She also had an awesome hit in the House Music genre; she was well received in that community. That would have been the perfect opportunity to establish herself as an international House Music queen.
