Thank you for bring out your Colt Python , Mr.Hickok and Son and showing us what a fantastic fun shooting revolver it truly is. The Colt Python, to me, is one of the most beautiful revolvers ever made. Whether it is blued steel, nickel plated steel or stainless steel. I have a special preference for the blued steel model because to me , high quality blued steel revolvers have a different sound and a different feel then a stainless steel revolver. The bullets click different when they seat in the cylinder. The cylinder clicks different when it locks in the revolver, The action feels crisper. When that 357 cartridge fires , the entire gun vibrates differently. It almost has a ring to it like a ultra high quality sword being drawn. The entire revolver just feels more alive in a blued carbon steel, high quality revolver. Be they a Colt, Smith or a Dan Wesson ( which I used to own). The supreme beauty of a Colt Python in deep shiny blue when it is all cleaned up is really something to behold. And shooting it betrays that magnificent action , both double and single action , that stock , only that Python has. The six inch heavy barrel is also a fantastic choice as the balance is perfect for all day target shooting as well as hunting. Just a magnificent revolver. Anyone who appreciates American greatness in handgun manufacturing should never pass up a chance to see and handle a Colt Python at a gun show or a gun store and maybe , you'll treat yourself to one of the finest handguns ever made.

I inherited my father's 1978 nickel 4" Python when he passed. It still looks brand new, and I still have the original box and manual. I learned to shoot with that revolver when I was 8, and I still take it to the range every so often with the kids. They like shooting "grandpa's gun."
@hickok452 жыл бұрын
Nice "treasure" you have there. Good that you keep shooting your dad's gun. Hopefully, you'll be able to hand it on down several generations, and they will all know the story behind it. ' You might ought to write down your experiences, rather like a diary that gets passed down with the gun. Those down the chain about 8 generations will appreciate it. :-)

So I bought my first .40 auto loader from Walther. P99 AS right out of the box again. Greatest experience I have ever had with an auto. I have it still, unfortunately the python slipped my grasp.

Speaking of Colt Python... Was at the range a few weeks ago and saw a brand new Blued Colt Python. Definitely a beautiful gun. Anyhow, my daughter was shooting in the stall next to the guy with a Python, and I hear what I thought was a squib, and immediately pulled my daughter off the line, and told the guy with a Python I thought I heard a Squib and to check his barrel. Well, it wasn't a squib, the bullet was still attached to the brass (not in the barrel). So, I don't know what happened, but we looked at the round, and appears the primer was struck because I could see the pin indention, but the powder did not ignite. Anyhow, nothing like hearing what you think is a squib with the person holding the gun ready to fire again.... Was a false alarm, but still....

.38/.357 has been one of my favorite cartridges of all time. I have both revolvers and lever guns in that cartridge and I love shooting and reloading them. The Colt is one nice piece, however I prefer SS then blued guns. They are better in inclement weather then a blued gun. But a blued gun is still a sweet piece.

My son transferred his first gun too his ownership today. He told me he wanted a 1911 a year ago. But when he popped open my safe he said he would rather transfer the S&W .357 mod-327 performance center. I told him what ever he wanted,butt his younger brother has already claimed the S&W mod - 27. He said as long as they stay with us. Those words made all fuzzy. Guess now I have to break in this 1911.

Wow, nice shooting! I have an 8” blued Python in .38 Special. It’s an odd duck-they weren’t very popular and were only made about 1 year. But it’s the most beautiful gun I’ve ever owned. The Royal Blue finish is amazing, and the classic lines of a Python are timeless. I remember American Handgunner Magazine used to have a list of the Top 100 Pistolsmiths Of The Year. According to them, Reeves Jungkind was the best Python action tuner at that time. He was the Armorer of the Texas Department of Public Safety and was an excellent shot as well. Anyway, I requested his extra light double action job since the gun was a range toy. It did not disappoint. I had a chance to compare a Python from the Colt Custom Shop to it. It was very nice, but Reeves’ effort was noticeably smoother. I’ll never sell that one. It’s as much a work of art as the gun itself.

Most of my life a Python was the only handgun I owned. If I could only own one it would be the Python. Bought in the '70s and I never let go of it. Put Pachmayr grips on it about '82. Still have the original wood in mint condition in the box the Pachmayr came in. Really a sweet spot gun. Lots of power in the 357 but the gun itself is not all get out huge like my 44 magnum. I mostly carried it hunting and it is a viable carry gun. 6" blue! Figure $400 in '78 so that is under $10 per year to own a genuine Colt Python.
