There is the old adage of men going through their second childhood when they hit their 60's. Most of them are buying sports cars(Vettes, Camero's, etc.). I seem to have drifted towards the SAA Army and lever action rifles. Seems to be less expensive and just as fun! Keep em' coming, Hickok!

My son, now 22. The first rifle he fired was Hawken plains rifle in .50 cal that I built, loaded light ;-) The first revolver he fired was a Colt 1860 Army. He was around 12. On that day, I walked him up through the history of guns, so before we shot a gun I would introduce him to the history of development of that particular style of gun. On that day, the last rifle he shot was a AR10 and the last Pistol he shot was a brand new 1911. He now has multiple guns, he is actually better than the old man some days, but he needs to get more time on handguns. It is hard to compete with someone who used to shoot 40K a year from a handgun, but at least I believe he has a good teacher. Once again, great show....like a Colt 1911, a single action Colt .45 is a must have. It’s always been hard for me to put together the money for a Colt but I wanted one. While I was in the local Bass Pro shop one day there it was...calling my name. It was not a Colt but it was the next best thing I guess. I was looking at an A. Uberti 1873 Cattleman EL Patron .45 LC 5.5. After studying on it for a good four or five minutes....you guessed it..... I brought it home with me. The Colt was just out of my reach but the Uberti wasn’t. I’ve had it for about five years now and it’s been a pleasure to shoot. Side note, I could not afford a Colt 1911 either so one day in a local gun shop they had Springfield 1911 A1 on sale and like the Uberti it followed me home. Great gun. Who knows, one day my ship might come in and I will get that Colt. Life is good

I don’t ever shoot my Gen1 Colts...they are full of history even though I’m sure they’d operate like the day they were made. It’s an homage to the craftsmen and gunsmiths who built those old guns. That skill set is being lost. I would Only allow a few old master colt gunsmiths to work on my guns. I have the same love for old Colts like you do! I know this is a conversion model video but thought I'd give tell you a story. Here in Texas it gets damn hot. So hot that while sitting in my backyard deer blind waiting for a jackrabbit whose been eating at my feeder, the bore butter in my 1858 Remington .44 melted, seeped around 3 balls and fowled the powder so despite the caps going off, the rounds didnt fire. I took my gun into the air conditioned house, let it get cold, cleaned the nipples with a pick, let the powder dry then put on new caps, returned outside and they fired off. Conclusion: lubed felt pads are better than bore butter in hot states.
