This song is just chock full of metaphor and Southern life. The first stanzas are a depiction of the backwards southern living he’s used to. The singer is a man who’s drifting from town to town and can’t settle down. When he’s talking about the crash on the number 4, it’s talking about a crash on a deserted highway where the only witnesses were God and Satan. That’s why he’s not sure whose will be done. And in the last verse he’s just depicting how the whiskey tastes different and the people around him look familiar but he’s so drunk he can’t really tell. It’s another allusion that even though he’s traveling and looking for a place to settle down, everywhere he goes is just like that last and that’s why he’ll always be sleeping on the blacktop

Colter wall is super legit. IIRC he turned down the Joe Rogan podcast because he was too busy “working on a ranch” 💪🏽. Diggin these reactions lately man. Check out some colter wall and Tyler Childers frauline or Pony Bradshaw “van gogh” or “10x10”. Keep up the great work bro!!

Ok..I'm going out on a limb here. But I was a OTR Truckdriver. So think of it like that. We lived and slept on the blacktop. Going through the trees. Just think like a trucker. Our life was going town to town. Eating at every dive bar or truckstop close by. That's the way I went with it. Maybe he's heard some old trucker telling stories.

His voice is so powerful that you can visibly see him restraining it. The only other artist that I’ve noticed this with is the singer from Needtobreathe. Colter wall is a beast.
@OceanBoulevardBand
@OceanBoulevardBand Жыл бұрын
That's not what's happening - he's singing in his lower register so he's back in his throat, he probably couldn't get any louder than he is and also had to change his singing style because he was badly damaging his voice. That's why these songs will live on in history because even he literally can't reproduce them.

The way I see it, hey darling sleeping on the black top as in one of the people dead in the crash he was the only witness that lived the other witness up high was god. Now he’s on the run and the road and he’s not turning back unless his “senses” catch up with him meaning turning himself in
