I live off hwy 61 in Mississippi. Which is where he is singing about in This song. Hwy 61 is where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the devil to play the guitar. Birthplace of the blues

Don, this was hard to comment because you already used every adjective that I would use to describe Colter so well! Vinylsearch2015 60 said it well, "he is like cowboy punk music". Colter brings me back to the place I love, being completely enveloped in an artist's mind, darkness and all, raw but beautiful. Reminds me of Joy Division in the 80s, there are some things that "pop music minds" will just never hear. I'm glad Colter's come into the scene to add to our repertoire!

I saw Colter in concert in Oslo twice last year, and even got to meet him and thank him for the songs! And next month I'll be seeing him again, couldn't be more excited! May I suggest you try reacting to something slightly different? It's definitely Americana, but the songwriter/performer is Norwegian: Monica Heldal - Con Man Coming You can find it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/boaZo5uHadFogKs The Norwegian Americana Scene is actually a thing, and it would be fun to hear an American reaction to it. :-) And if not, check out Sunday Valley - Never go to town again (Live from Pickathon 2011).
