Firstly, this is Scott adding a comment under my partner's email. Colton, one of the things that i would encourage you to do is NOT to play Johnny's 'gayme', because you are great as yourself. You don't need either his nor the 'queer' community's blessing. As a 65 year old gay (adjective, not a noun) man, i really appreciate your freshness and innocence. Please stay with and honor that. There are so many men (and athletes) who will benefit. I so appreciate your Netflix series and the authenticity you display/ed. That is what matters most to your audience, not being able to play the 'gayme' and answer stupid and pretentious questions posed by someone who really needs attention. Having fun is one thing, but it so often takes place at supplanting real heart. Another thing, is you don't have to be proud of just being something that you are. Now, how you handle that aspect of your being is something else. The old you was truly homophobic; i believe that the number one offenders in our society are usually homosexual themselves, and you proved that by how you treated Cassie (although I wouldn't ever have known this firsthand as i didn't watch The Bachelor myself). She and many other women are still abused by homophobia/heterosexism in our society, and one would think we would be past that in this day and age. However, the way that shows like The Bachelor help keep ultra-masculine and feminine traits at the forefront of 'desirability' in the public eye play a big part in our ongoing dramas. The word 'homophobia' is largely misused in our society, and should be replaced by 'heterosexism' as this is largely what GLBT/ALPHABET folks are up against...basically heterosexual privilege. And people say a lot of stupid and hurtful things--esp in sports--as a result. i also believe that a lot of gay men act in ways that don't really honor themselves, for example, the campiness expressed, which is often just a defense mechanism that they can hide behind. In other words, gay men can behave and speak in ways where they don't have to be just caricatures or to play into others prejudices and stereotypes . The gay 'community' still has a long way to go in accepting itself--and others--in ways that truly honor individuality and masculinity.
