I actually saw a few homes that was quite Pretty , A few the brick homes looked nice, And few the wooden ones too , Some looked very much like some of the old style coal houses we have here in The Appalachian Mountains, They would surprise you , You think they fall down with the slightest wind , But a lot very sturdy, And like these homes , And their caretakers, You can't judge them From the outside, Those houses are gems just waiting to be polished up, I prefer older homes , They've proven themselves with their endurance of time , Might need a bit maintenance, But many prove to outlast some modern ones , My opinion of course !💁

@catwithoutthe hat I understand what you say. I wouldn't put rich vs poor. I think is greedy polititians vs citizens. I agree, there is corruption on both main parties but I have observed that democrats are ruining many cities already. More than Reps. Look at Chicago, Los Angeles, Baltimore, San Francisco. Democrats don't know how to be fiscally conservative. They don't know how to improve the cities they lead.

This is the result of Jim Crow laws, closed factories, poor schools, and welfare. Blacks moved out from the farming areas when jobs were plentyful near the cities. These areas were mostly populated by whites. And as they prospered and moved on to newer homes, newer communities, then the blacks moved in. Then in the 70's everything went bust. Factoies closed, drugs use increased, then gangs. Smart black kids were bullied out of the schools. Blacks that had education and owned their own business moved out. Whites at the same level usually end up outside of town in trailer parks. The sad part is folks that complain about EBT cards don't say crap when corporations that left these areas are given billions in tax credits. This is not going to change, its getting worse. Walmart is testing a robotic janitorial system, grocery stores are introducing curb side service. The difference between Trump and Obama, Obama understood this trend and tried to move the country toward a new direction, BUT Trump and the MAGA campaign want the old America back, where factories were strong and middle clsss prospered. GM just said NO to that! NO Education NO Jobs...it doesn't matter if your Black or White.

Alright, so here's the real deal I'm not usually that inclined to leave comments on here due to the fact of others and their opinions at times. However, I had to speak out on this because I am a native of Columbia, SC born and raised. No offense to the individual filming this, but you chose to film a particular area that has simply been ran down over the years, with some respectable people that still live there side by side, has resided there at some point or either raised in that area. The place being filmed, was or still is known as being called, Howell Court. Most of it is Booker street, and Carver street, where decent families have once thrived and probably still is I'm sure. Now I know for a fact, that just a block or two around the corner there's other places that could have easily been deemed as being quite "hood", along with a few other close by neighborhoods up the road...yet, there has been improvements within these places, and meaningful life dwells there also. It's cool that these videos are made showing the darker sides of what life can be like in some lower class "considered" places. However, instead of filming certain areas just for show, go to the really hard down places, and talk about how rough life can get/be for other individuals and maybe even discussing ways of uniting to bring forth some kind of equitable change within the black community. I'm not trying to rant and rave on about it, just saying...It's my opinion is all, and no other intents besides.

Yeah I don’t think whoever is filming this wants to go to Gonzalez gardens and strike up a discussion lol. But it does shine a light on how bad our roads are here in Columbia though. I’ve hit way too many potholes and have seen metal plates being used longer than just a temporary fix and it’s ridiculous
@elizabethcanady99722 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much before I seen this video I had no documentation or pictures of my grandmothers house before they tore it down but now I do you went right pass her house on Carver Street off of Farrow Rd. once again thank you very much because they have torn it down now

I live in Columbia, SC but not a native. I just want to say you are in a lower income area of Columbia but you were not in the "hood". Mostly old homes with a income based area but good people with kids and low education.

Buying a lot of those metal plates to put over the potholes instead of actually fixing them. Seriously they will use those plates for months instead of actually fixing it. I’m born and raised in Columbia and been here for 25 years and the roads have always been horrible

Some of these homes were built in the 1940s. Alot of history here. I'm sure there are family's that have been in the community since that time. They pay taxes and the city won't fix the pot holes. This could be a flourishing town if leadership can bring business in the town without displacing the people.

Columbia native here. At about the 9:00 mark you go by Pinehurst Park. I went to kindergarten in the rec building there (since rebuilt) in 1959 when that park and the neighborhood were all white. in the mid-1990s I was a debit insurance agent and worked that same neighborhood, almost all black by then. I sn't that Washington Carver Village where you start out? That has been an infamous ghetto for years. I saw a similar video last night but you get much more into the worst hoods than the other guy did. As another poster said, I don't know how you come out alive from some of them.
@ronmoak3296 жыл бұрын
My great aunt and great uncle lived in eau claire- when it started going downhill they bought some land past blythewood in cedar creek- they didn't want to leave their house to the hood so they actually hired a company to bring their house with them!
@CarolinaNIM6 жыл бұрын
Eau Claire was another neighborhood turned hood that I worked in the insurance route in the 90s. I think it went down as soon as school busing started. I lived in a couple of places in the 80s. It was not bad back then for people just out of college and not concerned with schools for the children. Speaking of schools, Lutheran Seminary, Columbia College, and Columbia International University kept that area from going down more and sooner.

Last year I got the chance to drive through Detroit and I must say it was a sad sight. Even more heartbreaking is that it used to be the 5th largest city in the nation around the late 70s early 80s. I've never been to St Louis but have been to east Cleveland and Camden and let me tell you, it was a nightmare!
@CrazyGuyStudios16 жыл бұрын
kbw1970 New Orleans is doing better but in the east there are tons of abandon shops, houses, churches, there’s even an entire mall and amusement park abandon Jazzland, which was bought by six flags and is still standing (abandoned) no one cares about that in city government. The east is also a Warzone along with centeral city and other parts of Nola. New Orlean ‘s crime has not decreased we have already have 50 murders and it isn’t even April,
