Compared to Baltimore, I thought even the worst sections of Detroit are infinitely better. Why? Because even in the poorest areas, you have single family houses with yards. In Baltimore and other Eastern cities, there's the ugliness of row houses and concrete. Even the tiny backyards of row house Baltimore were sealed over with concrete to keep rats out.

My hometown. There are lots of good people in Detroit like the guys that moved the mattress, we lookout for our neighbors and will help each other. But the criminals in Detroit are extremely bold and give zero Fs. I’ve been helped many times, one night I had a flat, the car fell off of the Jack when I took the tire off and was sitting on the Jack. 2 young guys in a truck saw me, had a floor Jack and changed the tire for me. Absolutely saved me, middle of the night with nobody to call for help. But then I’ve also been at the bus stop on 8 mile near mound rd when a guy tried holding us up just to find out people waiting for the bus don’t have any money to take. He just walked away after we told him we only had our bus cards, broad daylight. I love Detroit but it has serious problems.

It's amazing how developers will go to wooded or undeveloped areas to build new homes when there is already developed land that has structures that can be repaired or replaced. It actually is people trying to move away from people under the illusion a new neighborhood will make people be better neighbors.
@dennisbailey70602 күн бұрын
The majority of those structures are completely dilapidated and not worth or impossible to save. Developers do what is most profitable
@olzt1002 күн бұрын
@@dennisbailey7060 So removing trees and leveling land is cheaper than removing old structures, yet have all the amenities with a township already around the area? I don't think the profits involve savings. I think it involves what they think they can charge in the building. I can show you photos of a recent home built basically on natural drainage system. Forty feet out the back door looks like a wilderness and needs probably 18 tons of dirt to level it out. I have seen plenty developers in my area basically see land for sale and stick up a plastic and wood home and say its worth 400k. They profit because folks are willing to move and buy regardless if its not a good location or not a good long term investment.
@dennisbailey70602 күн бұрын
They are always leveling old houses and building new ones in Detroit. Sometimes 2 or 3 in a row. But you cant level an entire nieghborhood. People still live in a lot of those old houses. What do you want to do… kick them out of their homes???? Not to mention builders dont wanna build new subs down there because of the taxes, corrupt and incompetent city government and a crime rate that would make Isis proud! Its the same reason all of the businesses got out. If its not profit that motivates them then what do you think it is?
@olzt1002 күн бұрын
@@dennisbailey7060 You have a point for the urban areas. Developers avoid areas that are hard to sell in. However, entire neighborhoods can be bought and leveled but that is costly. Developers tend to avoid unless they have some government funding and initiative backing them.
