It was the first of the second Columbo series that I got to see and it certainly made quite an impression. Ian Buchanan was a good example of how impressive the special guest stars would still be.

This was one of my most satisfying endings in Columbo. I really couldn't stand this guy, the arrogance to think he could outsmart Columbo not just once, but TWICE, haha. So happy when Columbo got him

Columbo waits until 2:14 before he more or less admits that he knows there's foul play at work. After that, he hardly allows the murderer any room to manoeuvre his way out of the denouement.

One of my favorite episodes. It has a similar vibe to that one older ep where the guy waits for Columbo to dig through a ton of concrete looking for a body first before actually bringing it in there to bury it. Actually not a bad tactic to first humiliate the police so hard that even if there's one detective onto them, there's no way they would be able to make another move after such fiasco - but when that one detective is Columbo, well... This little twist along with those where he tricks them into believing a certain car or flat belongs to a suspect so they plant their "evidence" in there, only for him to come out with "that's my wife's car..." and "that's my flat, actually...", these are just the best.

Great call. Yeah, I remember Columbo praising that guy in the older episode that he could've gotten away with it too, but he had to come back one more time to the construction site, and that's when Columbo tailed him and got him. Great episode for sure

I saw this from solid jj a youtuber who makes memes of popular fictional characters by putting them in weird or funny scenarios that writers would never touch. Such as Columbo who was called to take down an active shooter in the city. (No actual shooting just a guy standing in a city setting with a gun and gun sounds). The joke was that for an active shooter Columbo was doing his usual soft ball approach and being rather nice like it was a small theft case and not an active shooter case. This was the first time I've actually heard of Columbo and ran around youtube. This man is a hidden gen. In the Era or rogue or rebel cops its nice to see a calm detective whos main character traits don't involve screaming or being a bully.

I learned a new word the the other day "Immured" In this episode the victim was immured behind a recently constructed wall but the killer forgot to take off the pager on her arm. So when Columbo rang her pager number he could hear it beeping behind the wall, and discovered her body in a plastic clothes bag in think it was, when he had the wall broken down.

I don't think he did (it's been a while since I saw the episode). I believe he simply put the woman in the wall and covered her with insulation. The repair was already started and the when the workmen came in they finished the job.

This is season 9 episode 2, not season 2 episode 1. VHS tapes didn't exist in 1972. This also was Ian Buchanan's age when he was in Twin Peaks around the same time. The title of the episode is correct though.

For sure, those were amazing. Gotta admit though, this was a really well done episode regardless of the era. So many clues, trying to trick and embarrass Columbo, which he appeared to do until he committed the real crime, and then Columbo was on him like a dog with a bone 😄
