The later Columbo episodes changed things up every now and then, this is maybe one of the only times in the show's 30+ year history we see Columbo questioning someone in a police station setting. I think this is also the episode that has a more retrospective narrative, with Columbo telling the story of the case to his friends as a way of bookending the episode. It gave the audience an extremely rare glimpse of Columbo's life outside of his work.

Columbo was the best detective series ever. I love the way they'd show you the murder in the beginning. Columbo didn't just unravel the clues, he had to outsmart the perp and often trick them into trying to cover up their crime. I wish NBC would make new episodes. RIP Peter Falk
@dereklarner62982 жыл бұрын
Columbo is absolutely s classic, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say that he is more enjoyable the farther you go back. Now, if said new episodes were period pieces, set in the 70s, I think they could be enjoyable, but then you’d have modern writers who didn’t live through that era trying to write dialog that fit the time. That’s a tall order

Keep in mind that what she's said is not admissible unless she's been Mirandized. She has to be advised of her rights against self-incrimination and cautioned not to speak without her attorney present. Also, I highly doubt cops are going to get a clean print off a coin that's dropped into a meter. There has to be at least "12 points in common" but usually that's not enough. It should be closer to 20. Since the coin with the print on it almost certainly was underneath other coins, the other coins rubbing against it would have obliterated most of the loops and swirls.

@@LeonAllanDavis It's a dramatized TV show. Most of the viewers know that it's not exact reality and many will know that a lot of detective work is very mundane. What is the purpose of your post?
@LeonAllanDavis5 жыл бұрын
@@droceretik The purpose of of my post is, "don't insult my intelligence". This was a lousy episode with lousy directing; lousy writing; bad lighting and editing; and characters acting out of character. Here's the Columbo formula all scripts had to follow: - Someone cleverly plans and executes a murder - The victim had it coming - The murderer is a sympathetic character - Columbo spots the murderer within the first minute on the scene - The balance of the episode is a cat and mouse game between detective and criminal This episode violated the Columbo formula... The murder wasn't especially clever The victim didn't have it coming The murderer wasn't a sympathetic character There was no cat and mouse between Columbo and the murderer... On top of everything else, a child of ten could have figured this one out... There were only eight people in the offices. They could all be easily eliminated as suspects - except for the dead guy, and the woman... The woman didn't have an alibi and the corpse didn't need one... Case solved in less than five minutes...

Maybe he bought something at a store the day before with the coin, and whomever got it in change during a subsequent purchase used it in the meter.
