Why would he do that? Genuine question. The actor Falk really had only one eye so I don’t really see the reason to look at the camera with the wrong one unless directed to do so, and if so why would they ask him to do that?

Fun Fact: The camera Columbo is using is an Argus C3 rangefinder, which was favoured by the U.S. military for a while and used by several notable combat photographers. Presumably, his brother-in-law obtained it during his National Guard service.

This is a wonderful episode. Peter Falk is as brilliant as ever. While Honor Blackman and Richard Basehart are a delight as the killers. Their characters are two of the most odious in the entire series. Yet they are paradoxically quite sympathetic also.

I love it! This London episode is great. Glad they posted it. The Pan Am and BEA planes. Whitewall tires on the Daimler. The Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. I lived there as a child and saw it all. Such memories. So perfect.

The fumbling is especially perfect when, if I placed the accent right, the Scotland Yard commissioner is Colonel Crittenden from Hogan's Heroes. (I can't see really well but the voice sure sounds like him.) I have never seen this episode. I will have to check for what else is available of it.

Definitely weak, but not surprising fare, especially during what used to be Nielsen “sweep weeks”, which took place at various intervals during the year (including November when this episode originally aired). Admittedly, it was fun to see Honor Blackman and Richard Basehart as such hammy, catty degenerates!

I really like it. It's very funny throughout, and Blackman and Basehart nail the over-the-top narcissism of actors--they're even acting when they're alone together. It has to viewed as a send-up of actors, things English, and an American original bumbling through it all but coming out on top with his know-how.

Regrettably not. Good point. With the high comedic quotient in this episode I think the producers might have missed a trick there. But there's hope. With modern computer visual effects, we might get them in yet!

I like them both equally. This one is a send-up of Uber American in London, and it's very funny. Columbo in Mexico is much more serious, and the overall episode is waaay more dramatic with a tragic ending. I like the way they respect Mexican culture in it (except for the corruption, which Columbo navigates quite well).

Doing a "British" episode is often a sign a show has run out of ideas, pretty much every big US show has done one and most of them are terrible. This is my least favorite Colombo episode ever (including the newer episodes of the later runs) the murder itself is comical and the acting performances of most of the lead characters is way over the top and "hammy". Though it is nice to see "Britain" in the 70s (despite most the locations actually being filmed in California) they've made no effort to be authentic and research what life was like and have instead inserted as many needless stereotypes as possible. Worth noting Wilfred Hyde-White was a tax exile who could not return to UK as he owed the government thousands so all of his scenes were filmed in Cali.

I’m British, love Columbo, but Patrick McGoohan aside I disliked every episode involving British actors. It is a quintessentially American show and therein lies a good chunk of its allure. I love fish & chips and I like burgers, but putting them on the same plate is just wrong, might I offer by way of analogy.

It was silly. Crime was ridiculous and it seemed Columbo was barely in it. Like he was on vacation and they said we'll do a columbo here and call you when we need you
