Hi Richy, aren't you using an Optima? Val seems to love her Optima. I think she has tried every burner on the planet.
@richypyrography
@richypyrography 4 жыл бұрын
All of that is true. I have the Optima and I like it and yes, I believe Val has tried every available burner and loves the Optima over all the others. I believe that both machines are great and I love gadgets. Hehehe. I usually advise both of them but always have to say that I haven't used the Colwood.

Essential the heavy duty (HD) side has a much higher heat output. This allows the pen tip to get hot at a lower setting than what is needed on the detail side. I use the HD side when burning large dark backgrounds or if I'm using my large shader pen tip. I use the detail side 90% of the time as it is easier to keep the heat set so I get a medium to dark tan burn result with the shader pen tip I normally use. If I need to adjust the heat setting to 5 or above on the detail side, I generally switch over to the heavy duty side as the handset and wires don't get as warm.

Thank you so much for this video. I have the Colwood Super Pro II and have never really known when to use the Heavy Duty setting or which tips were best on this setting.

Hi Barb, I'm glad I could help clarify the issue. I do recommend experimenting around. My really small shader I never use on the HD side as even on 1 I get a really dark burn. On the flip side, I have a writer pen tip that I almost have to use the HD side on because it just needs a lot more power/heat. Not sure why, but it does. Thank you so much for the comment and have a fantastic weekend!

Hi Dennis, thanks. Just one. Valarie of Drawing with Fire is the person who has something like a million different burners. Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration, but only slight. :)

Hi Anthony, thanks. You have 2 options. 1 - Contact the place you bought it from. 2) Go to Colwood's website and click on the classroom tab. Scroll down until you find an article called "trim the pot." This article talks about how to adjust the internal heat setting - - this is not the really what's going on, but I lack the understanding to explain it better than that. :)

Hi Brenda. I’m looking to buy a burner and I’m between the Optima 1 and the colwood super pro ll.have you used the optima by any chance?.Wich one is better and why. I saw your review video but I see that both look like a good options so I’m not sure what to choose..please help me. Thanks

Hi Annya, I wish I could tell you, but I have only used a Colwood. I know that Val of drawing with fire has used both and she absolutely LOVES the optima. In fact I think Val has owned and used almost every brand of burner ever manufactured. I've read where the pen tips from either manufacturer will work on both burners. I have not purchased a pen tip from Optima to test this out. Speaking of pen tips, I would not bother investing in a lot of them. I really think that there are two essential tips: a shader & a writer. I burned for several years just using those two pen tips. The only burner I would avoid is a razor tip. The reason is that I've heard from numerous people that you have to use a really high heat setting even when burning in the tan ranges. The heat becomes rather uncomfortable quickly...or so I've been told. Again I do not have personal experiences with that brand.
