Gordon I have been doing MA for 43 years JJ which as you know is the grandfather of Aikido and teaching 33 of those years. After observing your video I will say anyone learning from you can not only be satisfied in knowing they are getting their money's worth, but have an excellent chance of getting out of a jam if the situation arises, with a high degree of success, utilizing your training. Not often I say these things about many teachers out there. But Very Well Done Sensei God Bless.OOSU

while i absolutely love aikido, there has been many occasions where doubts of its application in a 'real world self defense' have filled my mind. whilst i doubt i'll ever be as good as you in this aspect, it is certainly very encouraging for me to see aikido being used so effectively in its basic forms. fantastic vid. thanks!

Gotta love it, about 1:26 or so, he takes the knife away, takes the time to carefully place it in his pocket, then gets back to the business of punishing the bad guy a little more.

Aikido is the best Martial Art for cops especially disarming and handcuffing. I'm from the Philippines we have our version of Combat Aikido the name is TAPONDO. The word Tapondo came from Filipino dialects (Tagalog and ilonggo) Tapon(throw) and Pondo(lock). It is now recognized as FMA (Filipino Martial Art).

This is good. I would like to thank you for these vids, since I'm able to learn it very quickly by watching. I've taken Aikido when I was young, by remembering the basics, the advance techniques can be learned. I'll be combining with other techniques I've learn through other schools. Much thanks.

@FunkeyChunkeyMonkey0 Nice :) It's good to hear it actually works. I took my first lesson there last monday in Ju-Jitsu. It's really intense, and the wrist locks HURT REAL BAD.

@woolimustv Grabbing the top of the gun and retracting the slide will prevent the gun from firing (revolvers excluded). Many disarms begin this way

indeed. IMHO, all martial arts has its place, according to context and whilst i'll probably never hv to use it in a physical self-defense situation, obviously in a law enforcement context such as yours, it becomes necessary. as i indicated earlier, it's been good for me to finally see a crsytal clear practical application of basic aikido forms to build up my own confidence. gambarimasu! osu! ;)

After training in Aikido for over 40 years I have seen many so called combat aikido that was nothing more than JuJutsu. This however impressed me. This instructor has distilled the obviously dilluted techniques of modern day Aikido as taught by the Aikikai and gotten back to its combat oriented past before the war.

That is just awesome! I feel bad for the opponent there might not be anyone to train with after a few of these rounds.. everyone will run away for sure.

Yep yep. Aikido finds it necessary to train with multiple weapons, like the jo (a short staff) and a wooden sword, even, since many attacks one learns to defend one's self with are based on sword blows.

Yes, yes! A bit like jeet-kun do (be like water, at times calm and fluid, at times mighty and powerful) one has to be flexible, never focusing on one kind of technique but adapting to any situation. There are many many many techniques, but they would rarely work if one is not centered on the foe, and leads him thanks to the energy he discharges in the strike. Aikido is very fascinating already because of this, which is why I train as well, but I'm just a puny white-belt... =(

the thing is, in any aikido video, u see the attacker running towards the aikidoka, that makes it easy for him to just move outta the way, grab his arm, and throw him to the ground! u never see the attacker standing still and trying to lets say, punch, the aikidoka!

Oh, i see. i like it but was concerned at some points because the gun barrel made some wild circles. Thinking of bystanders if it should go off.

he growls like a bear, his kiai will be enough to subdue an attacker :) I don't think his Uke's last long, good hard training, excellent skill. My only concern is that in some of the handgun disarms he immediately returns the gun to his attacker after the disarm. In a real situation where muscle memory kicks in form training you will react like you train, thus giving the gun back, it has happened in real life and it is not a joke.

So then be ready for it. If they lay a punch on their attackers and he's numb for just half a second they'll get right back to their locks.
