Weapons teach principles, once learned through drills you have tools. Ropes, chains, nunchucks, staffs, sticks, blades each have worlds of principles to learn. :) Thank you for sharing the philosophy of your art.

Can confirm from firsthand experience: no quicker way of learning disarm principles than to be personally locked up, twisted, turned, led around, and gently escorted into the ground by Kuya Doug 😆. Awesome summary!

OMG! This video contains a plethora of insightful information. If you know, you know and Doug Marcaida is one of my favorite Filipino martial arts instructors. The man knows his stuff! I've been a student of Bobby Taboada's Balitawak Cuentada Arnis system now for 6 years - (the man's a legend in his own right). One year ago, I reached his Level 5 disarms, but was stuck there for an entire year, yet this 1 video INSTANTLY ungraded my understanding (literally overnight.) My struggle was trying to combine my understanding of (unarmed joint locks), with the use of the Arnis stick. The theory was always there, but the practicality was missing until I watched this video. You guys are amazing! Keep doing what you do and thanks for sharing.

This is a nice introduction. It's indeed a great principle to take an opportunistic approach and take the initiative rather than wait for an attack and hope that it's not a feint and you're predictions and timing are right... Plus, you're much better off when you keep your opponent busy...

Amazing and excellent. A particularly liked the lock-flow aspect of bare handed section, showns as if a byproduct. May be separating them into weaponless, one side qwith weapon and both sides with weapons could be more digestable for a learner of this really good martial art. Paul,69

this martial arts are able to caught off guard people who knows they have the upper hand and in the worst case scenario like the saying, “It’s better to have it and not need it, than you don’t have it and need it” you can be your own weapon without carrying one in case of an oppressor is right in front of you and cornering you.

@@SharpTalkPodcast I guess he said it with ignorant sarcasm. He doesn't understand the term demo or tutorial and expects everything to be the "real thing". I guess he thinks the same way about guys shooting stationary (cooperative)objects at firing ranges and doesn't understand that the moves you and kuya Doug showed teaches the discipline, instinct and muscle memory for when you need it in real situations.

@@grayrecluse7496 They never said that you will never get cut in a real fight. But those skills will get you a higher chance of coming out alive than just being out there and doesn't know what to do. Common sense will tell you not to do those step by step just to look good like they did but apply with what the situation offers you to do. Real fights are never supposed to look good but having some edge in technique could get you out less ugly. With the kind of mindset you have you're lucky you only got scars.

I have the fighting scars and i have the body counts of those who have used them.. take note these have been used by the military i taught first hand in the Phiiippines and some use from special.forces i have trained as a contractor and the MEN OF many street gang fights.there is no guarantee because no one is bullet proof or staB Proof. Even those who are very skilled with this can die from being stabbed but many too have lived . That being said, DONT generalize because it shows how limited your understanding is of training the arts which have been proven effective for many...and for other in it..not so much. But what does work is the other things you learn from trainig. The art...respect , comradery, Friendship , confidence and spirituality. Not everything's just about the violence. And this is just a demo. Not that as mention...disarms are secondary. The true disarms is the cuts, strike and hits...watch the video and understand what is presented. @grayrecluse7496
