Now this is the type of aikido we used to practice. . Very good love it .far superior to the usual dance crap.

@fawkmee i am coming off of 15 years of shotokan karate. i was curious about aikido, so i went to a dojo and trained for a bit to feel what its like. let me tell you a few things. firstly, you give up because you are in a losing position. the joint manipulation completely controls you and if you move incorrectly, snap goes your wrist or elbow. the flipping is for the benefit of the defender. it helps you evade by just going with the momentum. if you don't flip, your arm snaps.
@Sandurz2015 жыл бұрын
You're right about a good street fighter, their attacks are mostly random, and are just pounding the crap out of people, but Aikido was designed to counter many structured martial arts, such as karate or what have you. Aikido was developed during a time where if you fought hand to hand, you did it with a structured form. Never the less, it can be useful, as I have used some Aikido techniques in fights, and they proved very useful.

If you don't move fast in your fall, and the Aikidoka is feeling unkind, he can seriously injure your arms. So, yes, the uke deliberately falls fast - the alternative is broken wrist, broken elbow, or dislocated shoulder, etc.

Aikido has a different way of "falling". You are right, almost quit aikido because of that until my sensei set me aside and told me that the way I fall was the judo way (and Hapkido). Like you said if you don't fall deliberately, something will break and not give.

@fwwaller You can't properly fight if you are not relaxed, Aikido is about mental strenght also. You are not using much force, because you are using slight energy just to get your body balance back. You are just changing the force of your oppopennt and using it against him.
@42Cleve12 жыл бұрын
@scaife4589 Another thing, when you're fighting in that cage, there are rules. The floor is somewhat padded and it's one on one (no weapons) In the street, it's entirely different. That concrete doesn't give when you get thrown down on it. Throws can be fight enders in a street confrontation because not everybody knows how to break fall. Groundfighting is NOT a good option in a real fight because, he may not be alone. In that situation you'd be at a severe disadvantage.

@scraponmutt It's amazing how quick people are to criticize what they don't understand. Martial arts aren't all about inflicting permanant injury. Aikido techniques are designed to redirect the incoming attack in another direction. If the attacker resists the movement (instead of going with it), they risk the destruction of that limb. So go ahead and find out the hard way. Train in a dojo.

We also have in AMMA Dojo (from Brazil) little space to Aikido's pratices. But it is not a wall for us, and I saw which is not the same for you. Good job! We need keep the spirit of Aikido around of the World, it is the dream of Ô Sensei, Morihei Ueshiba.

@jacksoncole79 I agree. But if you want to learn this stuff in a practical setting, go into Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate. We also don't do magic double backflips when it's done to us, we just go down and hurt.

@scaife4589 There are a limited number of techniques you can even use in the octagon and they aren't exactly street practical or effective. If your training is geared for competition, chances are your self defense skills are going to be lacking. If your training is pure self defense, you'll be at a disadvantage in competition. Aikido wasn't designed for competition but it does work for self defense. I've used it's techniques and they work.

I love aikido because it's clever... But I believe that it's a complement of a stricking technique like karate or kung fu. Aikido is just the "small thing" that will always give you the adventage and the finishing move. I found myself in real situations and aikido helped me a lot to control the guys and impress them. (but I'm not sick : if the guy has a deadly weapon for all I care he can leave with the10$ in my wallet)

To all the people who do not believe Aikido is the real deal, go to a dojo an ask a Aikido instructor if you take a swing at him with full force or if you can throw a flurry of punches at his face or body, in the end it will make absolutely no difference! If the instructor is the "real deal" (and I cannot speak for other styles except for Aikiki) you will end up face planted or face first into the mat with no idea of what just happened! I know cuz I just tried it last night!

@scaife4589 Sometimes you won't be able to walk or run away. In many cases a street fight includes three people, two attackers, one victim. You may know how to roll out of a technique in BJJ but keep in mind that some techniques won't allow you to "roll out". Hapkido training has taught me some techniques where your opponent goes up and then comes back down. You can't "roll out" when you going vertically straight down on your back.

Nice clip. I just wish they did keep playing with the speed of the video. It's one thing to slow down footage to show detail, but speeding it up to make it look quick... That's not cool. ...and before people say that was normal speed (at all times) when it was not slowed down, look how jerky their motion is, and the clapping in the background. You can see it was sped up to add extra flare.

@scraponmutt Whether you are practicing Aikido or Krav Maga or just plain old Boxing, if you got into a real fight what would matter most is your will to live and the confidence in your skill. If you can pull off a wrist lock throw as easy as breathing, or can knock a guy out with a right cross, who cares what people say is more effective? You threaten both an Aikido master and a Krav Maga master with a knife, I guarantee the ass kickings coming your way will be 21 different kinds of epic.

Yup and they resist themselves into injuries, like I did two weeks ago by accident. So now I have a fucked up ligament that'll take months to heal. The entire point is that the opponent resists. Having tried fighting a boxer I can tell you that Aikido is devestating against them. The boxing defence against a clinch is what again? Oh yeah, wait for the ref to break it up. Sadly there wasn't a ref about and he ended up on the floor, with my knee in his throat.

I would have to disagree with you on this based on the fact that most martial arts train against a "known" attack the only time they dont is in a formal sparring session and usually by then you have gained the abiliy to move around and see punches and kicks coming. The only way one can effectively learn the techniques to defend their self is by practicing against a known attack. Over time you get better and better and the speed of the attacks increase to becoming much more realistic.
