It is probably worth noting that this is not a realistic timeline in terms of what would probably happen in real life. But I get that this is probably the best way to go in DCS pvp multiplayer servers where GCI support is often not available and where the level of accessible risk is very high ( you are not actually risking your life and a multi million dollar jet). You kindda touch on that reality a bit when you talk about it only beeing for a ''kill shot only''. In a real BVR engagements, fighters would more likely use a launch and decide tactic (SKATE). Shoot much farther, crank after the shot and, depending on what the ennemy is doing, either push further or turn cold and leave the engagement before the ennemies missiles can be a problem. Only if the stakes were really high would the fighters be that aggressive (BANZAI) and they would more likely opt for a notch attack (put their ennemy on their 3-9 line, use countermeasures and progressively increasing their angle of bank towards the threat to remain in the notch, using GCI to know when and where to point their radar back at the threat and fire. I recommand USNAVY P-825 ALL WEATHER INTERCEPT chapter 13 and 14 for those of you who would want to learn about real timelines. Again, I do however get that this is probably more aimed at the DCS Multiplayer more competitive pvp gameplay scene than a description of real life tactics.

Good comment. The other chapters of the USNAVY P-825 ALL WEATHER INTERCEPT are also worth reading for everyone interested in that stuff. Anyway, again a great presentation by Cap.

It is very easy to do this with FOX3 AIM120, the real art is to bit this tactic with FOX1 and Su27 for example or M2000

strange to see initial cranking without your own initial missile shot. kind of the point of cranking to the radar gimbal limit is to support your own missile in the air
@ytdlder

It really depends what you're fighting against though... vs. PL-12 for instance, you'll need to defeat the missile with chaff and manouvers; if you just crank, you're dead. Then you'll quickly need to engage the target AND defeat the 2nd missile that's gonna come your way. The YF-17 and Chinese missiles are bad news; kinda makes me wanna get that module :-) Or when fighting the F-14 + Aim-54: you'll need to crank way sooner, or the missile will have too much kinetic energy. In my testing around 40-45nmi will get you out of it. Interestingly: after your video on how to beat IR SAMs, I've tried the same tactics against R-27(E)T and that works like a charm :D Do barrel rolls at high speed, a little bit of flares and that's all. It's like a cheat; BUT: you don't know if such a missile is coming for you, and if you crank, that won't help you that much (as the AI launches the IR only at 20nmi, it has WAY too much energy to defeat any cranking)

If have altitude hi that not be work , or if its going to you on hi speed with maneuver 9-12-3-6 and launch from 6 mile's it's 100% kill shot .

Hey cap, the ranges that are displayed in the M2k hud, are those calculated by the computer according to altitude speed etc. or we have to calculate it like that?

would an Immelmann work as well... seems if the idea is to force the adversary's missile to scrub off speed, making it climb would add to this effect... no?

I'm a noob so please excuse the dumb question: Some things I don't understand, what is stopping the opponent to do exactly the same thing: Fire a missile at 10nm. at you and do a high G turn to avoid your missile and bot of you ending dead anyway? What would decide in favor here? The first to fire a missile and turn away at the critical moment?
@ytdlder
@ytdlder 2 жыл бұрын
Well, if both fire a Fox3 at about 10nm, which means both go Pitbull practically instantly, then the one whoever manouvers best and can evade the missile wins. It's a lot of luck and I had quite a few encounters where we both died. R-77, PL-12, Aim-120: very tough missiles to beat!

F-pole is a number (a range technically) whereas cranking is a manoeuvre that is part of the tactic described here. The tactics themselves are described as Skate and Banzai.

Never once have I ever heard in me entire life, heard that you shoot missiles to not kill someone. Not counting training. Fact check that and get back to me.

Was actually quite common in Vietnam and contributed in small part to the overall low kill probabilities. Pilots sometimes fired sidewinders knowing they had little hope of hitting in order to distract MiGs chasing allies etc. Assuming the missile actually came off the rail. And if it did, that the motor actually worked.

You can force the hostile into getting defensive with the launch of a missile, it's basic logic.
