I’ve watched a number of these incredible interviews and so many of them grew up just like me. Going into the woods and playing army. (Opalski, Tom Shea, Dale Thompson, this guy). These interviews are great because it’s a lot of gen x guys with similar upbringings going on to do amazing things. Makes me proud of who I am, makes me wonder about kids who live in front of screens, then again maybe that will be their battlefield - in front of screens.

I completely agree with that sentiment. I joined the AF in 94 ended up going into CSAR and I loved it but I got out after 8 years after seeing so many close friends die.

So I was an Reserve MP assigned to Ft. Sill, and during 9/11. I kept calling my leadership and asking if we were going anywhere, kept saying that they didn’t know yet but to be packed and ready. Finally got the word and drove across the state & showed up near 10pm. What struck me was that the sky over Post was entirely lit up, I could see it almost 40 miles away & it made me wonder if it had been attacked. As I got closer it became apparent that they were launching illumination rounds all over post that night. The first 2 weeks they didn’t have a place for us to sleep and we slept in the basement of our active counterparts barracks and in they’re day room. Working shift work we had a few cots and 2 pool tables and we had to hit bunk with the other guy. Was a crazy time, and crazy to think that I was there at the same time.

HOYA SAXA!! Georgetown football! I played LB @ GU from ‘90-‘93 (CAS ‘94). We’ve obviously never been a “football school” and I honestly didn’t make football my first priority, but I’ll always have nothing but great memories of my time on the Hilltop.

''For every ten people you find clipping at the leaves of evil, you're lucky to find one who's hacking at it's roots.'' ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, said that. ''There are men too superior to be seen except by the few, as there are notes too high for the scale of most ears.'' ~Henry David Thoreau, said that. ''For none are closer to - the author of pain & sacrifice Himself... Than those who choose to - perform it for the sake & safety of others.'' -11b4p 82nd 1/504 back in '74, said that. ''Every living thing comes from & returns back to His Dirt. Between those two times... are they not fashioned by His Light & Living Waters?'' - Reckon I said that too.

I hear ya about having kids and just letting them roam the neighborhood however, is it bad to let them have a cell phone with apps (Verizon's Smart Family) where it tells the parent the location of that cell. My 14 year old daughter has that and I check it when she is on the bus so I can tell if she is on the bus. It's a shame that we cannot let them do what we did growing up because some idiot might do something. I'm an attorney and I see it everyday in court where felons do stuff the kids and I don't know Total Dynamics have changed

Ahh, no discussion about the USMC. Why? No, stop. I already know. Because you don't know. I went to SERE C with a bunch of Army Captains. Cry babies!!! I already had a huge amount of other training and education you folks take for granted nowadays. Luckily, I was a Gunnery Sergeant then and knew the NCO's around me (Joint). Men who had served far longer individually than either of you "boys" collectively. Pull my finger...Regardless of my rant. Gents, keep the ball rolling. You are loved and respected and honored by U.S. MARINES. Thank you for this interview. God Bless you both.

I wonder if some of the attrition In something like Ranger School is lack of recovery. There are probably candidates who would be good Rangers, who are injured and don't get recovery time, who opt out because the injury is too severe. If that's so then you're losing good people just from statistical chance of who gets injured and who doesn't. Maybe more Rangers would graduate if there was more recovery time built in. Think about it, you're building warrior athletes, athletes need recovery time. Same fitness level, same dedication, better system. A thought.

But is it REALLY too dangerous for your kids to walk to school? I'm in Australia so it may be different here, I hear people talking all the time how it's so dangerous now compared to when they were growing up, but when you look at the actual statistics the reverse is actually true.

In America it depends on where you live and the type of neighborhood you're living in. Class doesn't necessarily play a role, but geo location and that places political beliefs

I swear to God I'm going to join the military just to bring back the silent warrior. I know these stories should be shared but a part of me also thinks they should not be shared partly because it gives away tactics some tactics I mean I know they're basic but you can learn a lot if you listen to this and the extremists are getting smart and they're digital now so they're online they're probably watching all of this and learning from it so I'm on the fence about this I know these men should be honored and their story should be remembered but is it going to cost something?

We sent the best man to foreign lands to fight for supposed "Democracy" yet our nation has been taken over by enemies domestic and foreign. That is the part that hurts me the most after ending my Mountain Infantry career.
