Swedish military has always trained for asymmetrical warfare, guerilla style tactics. Swedish soldiers are trained to operate in small independent groups. Of course they will follow commands, but they don't sit around and do nothing and wait to be told what to do, like the russians often default to. The swedish military training manual (Soldaten i fält, SoldF) has been translated to Ukrainian and is used in Ukraine to train new troops.

For Russians and Ukrainians reading your comment is comparable to a joke, but I’ll say it anyway. Rurik (Prince of Novgorod) of course had Scandinavian origins, only he didn’t find Kievan Rus because it stupidly didn’t exist yet, because Oleg Vesky (as regent of Rurik’s little son) with his Novgorod squad took Kiev itself from Askold and Dir and became the First Prince of Kiev, creating the State - (“And Oleg sat down, prince, in Kiev, and Oleg said: “Let this be the mother of Russian cities.” Vladimir the Great, whom you named, was much later (born + - in 956) and he was not a Swede and he did not speak Swedish with his mother, she was generally a simple housekeeper-slave born in Lyubechi (a village in the territory of modern Ukraine) Vladimir the Great, Great mainly because it was he who baptized Rus in 988'

why they dont have brought their own weapons by they own? I assume, that as it is in Poland, obtaining permit for owning a gun is not very easy, and has its limitations. I watch every day for a minimum of an hour and this was one of the most valuable for understanding operations in theatre. There is so much here of value. The one photo of this soldier back in Sweden is sitting on an AFV with a black beret on. He likely comes form the Armour branch, possible a Recce unit? Assaut Pioneer in the Armoured branch? Crewmen usually don't have the fortitude this man has, if I can speak in generalizations. Well narrated. A must watch episode. 41C

Also owning a gun in Sweden is very different from the US. You need to store it in pieces. The gun need to be locked up in something like a safe and the bolt in a secure storage (not together with the gun). You can not use it to defend yourself, you can only travel from your special storage to a designated shooting range or area where hunting is ok and where you have bought rights to participate in hunting as a part of a hunting team. You need to be an active (by active means do and pass tests every year) and a registered member of a gun owners club, your gun needs to be registered. So there are a lot of regulations there.

One was a scout behind enemy lines, he went to scout Russian supply lines and skied back, he got shot in the leg but got away and skied back to Finland, his boots where filled with blood when he got to safety. My grandmas dad lives out his life with shrapnel in his entire body after throwing back an enemy grenade. He was a medic so he had to do that since his patients couldn´t run away like he could. He was very lucky to survive, it literally barely missed all his vitals. It is crazy that this is only our grandparents and their parents generation and now the same is happening again in Ukraine.

You spelled fika correctly. You sounded a little surprised that Swedes are volunteering to fight in Ukraine. But it is actually not unusual at all for Swedish men to voluntarily participate in war. During World War II, over 4,000 volunteer Swedish men fought against Hitler and over 8,000 Swedish sailors were on Allied ships. Just over 8,000 Swedes volunteered in the Finnish Winter War against the then Soviet Union. Then there were 200 Swedes who fought with the Germans. Since what is not stated is how many Swedes were in the Foreign Legion and were in the Second World War. What I know about 20 men were from my city Kiruna. Had voluntarily joined the French Foreign Legion during World War II. Then there was a large number of volunteer Swedish men who fought alongside the Kurds against IS.

its 200 that joined the SS. the reason is that it was forbidden for germany to run recruitment offices in sweden due to our political neutrality. any swede that wanted to join the german army had to actually spend the money to go there themselves only to apply. you could also technically argue that the swedes volunteering in finland did help the germans by proxy of fighting the enemy of the germans, the soviet union.

Of course, technically speaking, you could say that those who went to Finland and even then fought for the Germans. But the men who went to Finland and fought with the Finns, it was not for the sake of the Germans, but because many of them had relatives in Finland, but also the fear that the Soviet Union would continue against Sweden. That is what I have been told by the men from Tornedalen and Kiruna who went there, as well as by a neighbor who was born in Finland and was in the Finnish Winter War and who after the war moved to Kiruna. He told about this to a Finnish writer in the 70s who was around Sweden to interview the Finns who fought during the Second World War and then moved to Sweden, as well as to interview the Swedes who fought for the Finns. It was a book that was to be published in Finland when it was finished. Don't know what the book is called and this is over 40 years ago, as the book was to be written after he had finished interviewing everyone who wanted the stories from him.

I've seen this video before, and I believe this particular man was either an officer or a professional soldier in the Swedish military before his arrival into Ukraine. And what the video translates to "calibrating" is what we in Sweden call "skjuta in", which means zeroing your rifle and optics. And you never miss fika. Little known fact is that Swedish tanks have small pastry ovens in them so the crew can always enjoy fika! (no, this isn't actually true) Edit: Robot 57 is the Swedish designation for the Bofors NLAW.

Swedes are some of the largest number of Volunteers both in noncombat role and combat role together with finland the baltics poland U.K and U.S. There is alot of history between what is today called Sweden and Finland and Ukraine, Belarus and western part of The Nation formaly known as Russia which goes back to Roman Empire time with Tribal moments down from Gotland and other parts of sweden to Byzantine, The we had the Rus and later on the Swedish Empire was down there to multiple times with Karl the 12th Aka Carolus Rex and his battles in the Great northern war beeing abit like Everyone left of France and north of The Ottomans against sweden for 20 years with Karl the 12th actually beeing the one winning for the first 10 years (Quality vs Quantity and alot of focus on Officer training 101). Then we also have Gammal Svensk By (Old Swedish Village) in Kherson Oblast in Ukraine where alot of then old citizens still speak Swedish. And alot of Swedish officers have been training Ukrainian soldiers for a couple of years to. Best Regards.

In regard to the Chem weapons at Gostomel when the Russians left they left pallets of hazmat gear masks suits etc. some of the guys who were going through stuff came in contact with some chem agent. the working theory is that the Russians brought in some chem weapons when they entered Gostomel to use later on Kyiv some of the containers were damaged and contaminated the area and the guys going through later came into contact with what was left over after the Russians removed what they brought in when they left the area.

In regards to your comment about moving platoons or even a company in woods and setting up an ambush, that is something we train in Sweden. Even staff and other rear-echelons units gets training in establishing a platoon sized ambush. And woods are more or less second nature to many swedes. And those who are not so used to move through forests learns from those who are. Heck, I rememeber we once practiced setting up a company sized ambush in my old Homeguard company. The attitude from many were mostly along the lines "Dang, do we have to do this again?" So moving into position, executing the ambush and getting out of there is something we are pretty used to do. And we really want to do this in the forests if we can, because the forests covers us when we move into position and the forest protects us when we fall back. If you have studied some to the tactics the finns used during WWII that is is basically how we... and the finns, do it today.
