In this episode we combine three kits from Carolina Craftsman Kits to make one large Paper Mill. This is the fourth and final video in the series. We also build a diorama for the model to be displayed on. I show you how to make concrete using joint compound and how to use real dirt. I also discuss painting and weathering track. Join me for the exciting conclusion to the four part video series.
Hope you enjoy the video and happy modeling everyone!!!

Jason; You and Jeff Grove did a masterful job with the KIT-SMASH series. I have done hyper Kitbashing in the past. However, the two of you have taken the art form over the deep end. And jumped in head first. Into a different realm. Congratulations. When you mentioned the Springfield train show I was not certain if you meant the Amherst Railway Society Annual Train Show, at the BIG E exposition site, or not. But I and my club will be there with our demo OPS Session. Hope to meet Mr. Grove there. One thing I may bring up is ONCE a year the two of you get together and look back at previous Carolina Craftsman Kits and Kit-Smash a couple together, as you did here. Then rebrand the Smash-Kits as the Jenson/Grove Signature Series. For those with apprentice or intermediate modeling skills, this could result in them improving their technique, visualizing their building style more inclusively, and increase their desire to expand their artistry. All good. SEE YA' DOWN THE LINE' Jim

Another excellent tutorial and kit from you Jason. The only two problems I see with these kits are the cost, including international postal charges and the availability in the UK. The majority of our kits are thin flimsy card kits, pre printed etc. I think it is a lot more difficult to weather these kits due to warping and stretching of the thin card.Anyway, I loved the tutorial and feel my skills are slowly improving thanks to your knowledge and techniques. Thank you for all the video's you do to help everyone.

It's always fascinating to watch your build videos, Jason. And this one is especially interesting because of the way the separate kits came together. I'm glad to hear your description of what the laser-cut model producers have to go through to bring a structure from the imagination to the box. I am friends with a few and know they do it out of their love of the hobby as well as a way of expressing their own creativity. I'm very much looking forward to seeing this with Jeff at a future show.

Jason, such an amazing look into what it takes to bring a model like this to life, its a side of modeling that most of us will never know. This kit is amazing the way it can be a stand alone model, or combined into a lager complex. Looking at each kit as a separate building may make it less intimidating for some modelers who would maybe pass on the bigger combined kit. This is a winning combination no matter which way you look at it, very well done. I went to look at the structure on CCK website and ended up getting the only Harbor Inn kit he had instead. Had it not been for your efforts, I probably would have missed out on that opportunity. I know you put so much work into your videos but I would like you to know that it makes a difference in my life in many ways. You inspire and help to create ideas in my own efforts. I can only imagine that you do as much for others as well. Cheers, Rob

Hi Jason, I have watched all your videos and have learned so much from you, fantastic work! Your artist background REALLY shows in your finished work. Even my wife knows your name now, lol, and we both look forward to your next posts. I do have a suggestion for you, I like using artists colored pencils for coloring the edges of paper signs. How about some rolls of paper? Beautiful build. Here's a tip: I keep a leather strop on my bench. I use it to keep my knife blade sharp. 15 swipes on my blade gives me a super sharp knife blade. I haven't replaced my blade in several months. I realize blades are cheap but 15 swipes takes no time at all.

Hi Jason, to this project I must say, that I watched in awe the making of it.Fantastic job. We are talking about building old houses which have been around for a long time, have rusted metals and are in old and used condition. My self i build this week a couple of small railroad builds who were standing on the Pensy years. What didn`t fit in terms of alltogether look were the acetats for the windows. That stuff looks like there was a window cleaning grew running around every day to clean the windows. As you were showing the complete kit from all sides I noticed the extreme reflections in those window paines. I sit here in Germany and build also Faller and Vollmer plastic kits with extruded clear plastic as windows, they don`t reflect as much as the acetate does. I think I`m gonna try to tune those acetates down with the airbrush. See what happens. What do you think.? Thanks for your good work and explanation to everything.
@JasonJensenTrains
@JasonJensenTrains 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so very much, I really appreciate it!!! I have frosted the acetate windows by using super SUPER fine sand paper on the back of them. I go in a circular motion (going over it many times). Or try covering the inside of the acetate with white Elmer's glue (it dries looking foggy). Thanks for watching and happy modeling!!!

This is the first time I've seen TRACK in any of your Videos!! 😜 Seriously, that came out GREAT! Smart use of a background Building in a full relief Structure. Very clever!! I'm a little concerned about one thing... The Road and Sidewalks placed on Styrofoam that wasn't sanded or grooved. Being a Diorama that will travel, I'd be worried about the ground cover chipping off.

Hi Jason, would you let me know if I can airbrush those Americana acrylics and if with what dilution.Thanks
@JasonJensenTrains
@JasonJensenTrains 4 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. I dilute mine with water. When you are done make sure to run lots of water throught the airbrush and clean it well. If acrylic paints dry in the airbrush it will become rock hard. Very difficult to remove dried paint from an airbrush.
