Combining Drypoint, Monotype & Collagraph... on 2 plates!

In this video I will be using two Perspex plates that will combine a variety of printing techniques; drypoint, collagraph and monotype to create a very atmospheric landscape.
Materials used:
- Perspex sheets
- Intaglio Printmaker Inks: Prussian Blue, Zinc White, Indian Yellow, Sepia, Raw Umber
- Ginour Cordless mini grinder
- Somerset 300g paper
- Acrylic Matt Medium
- Pollyfilla
- Wood glue
- Polymetaal HS-35 Tabletop Etching Press

Drypoint, collagraph and monotype prints are three different types of printing. They all use natural materials to create an image.
Drypoints are created when the artist carves a design into a metal plate with a sharp needle or tool such as etching needle. Collagraphs are created by placing paper on top of clay, which is then covered in ink and pressed onto paper. Monotypes involve painting images on canvas that have been coated with oil paint so they can be printed without needing plates or screens like other printmaking methods do.

Fabulous print and tutorial. Right up my alley. I always love the ghost prints more than the first print. There is something about how everything has settled together which achieves the best print

Polyfilla! I always imagined that would just flake away... There's nothing stopping me applying that to a plate to create a 3-D texture, then make a mould of it so I can press it 3-D style into paper. I'm so trying that!

Oh wow that is really beatiful. Reference points! I hope I can apply that principle. Although I've made a lot of 2 and 3 layer prints I haven't worked out how to print them yet.

I can't believe it; I've been trying 2 and 3 layer prints... using a dremel rotary multitool. I've got about ten of them and I use specifically tiny dental heads of various sizes. I've even got one that is the same colour and brand! I've been using perspex but also lamination sheets and I'm looking forward to see how you line them up. I've made about 10 multilevelled prints but I'm still to try to get them to line up. I also ador the... polyfilla and woodglue (which I've also been using for practically everything). I'm so trying the polyfilla..

Well, I’ve been trying to see what similar products work like pollyfilla which I had never heard of? In the US or if it’s possible I can find it; then it turns out there are tons of these products cuz that’s the name of the brand lol! Oi!

Does the wood glue help the polyfilla stay in place or does the polyfilla stay in place all on its own... I can't believe it sticks to perspex sheets. I use glue. specifically Silane Polymer glue, for practically everything these days.

It stays, but it’s always good to reinforce it so the plate lasts longer. I must try Silane Polymer glue!

@@CollagraphPrinting *I actually use Silane Modified Polymer adhesive to mostly help me make embossing folders. They are comparable to your wonderful collagraph plates in that they use textured surfaces. I make something like a collagraph... but then I cover it with dishwashing detergent and I press a layer of SMP adhesive onto it and let it dry. It peels off if you do it right. I end up with an exact inverted copy of the textured surface. Pressing a piece of dampened paper between the two surfaces produces a perfect replica of the original: every last fissure and tunnel reproduced. Silane hybrid polymer adhesive is so great because, unlike silicone and latex, it doesn't shrink while drying! I love watching your films about the collagraphs because they are actually even more similar to the method I sort of invented than the printmaking I was trying to imitate. You can sort of see why I'm so fascinated by the textured surfaces.
