Make sure if you disconnect the battery from your vehicle you have your radio code so you don’t lose your radio. It may not reconnect when battery is reinstalled. Some radios are security protected. If it loses power to the radio and you don’t have the code to reset the radio you need to go to the dealer. You will need your ID and registration. There is a fee. They may charge you the hourly rate.

Yes. Such a pain in the butt for no good reason In my opinion. It’s worth noting I know for a fact that Honda has a website you can enter your vin into and I will give you the code for free just a fyi for anyone.

15:13 The way that battery slipped out of that battery carrier the first time you attached and tried to lift it, made me think of how utterly destroyed your $100 battery would become if it ever dropped to the floor or even onto your foot, on the way to the bench!

Just a tip here the positive lead splits one goes directly to the start motor the other goes into the cars main fuse box. Never take the positive lead off first remember this negative off then positive. Positive on then negative. Also never cross the two. Positive is always red with a plus sign negative is always black with a minus sign.

1. Will dielectric geese help the battery conductivity of the terminal? 2. Will dielectric geese applied externally protect the terminals from corrosion?
@screwdajuice2 жыл бұрын
dielectric grease is applied to electrical connections to prevent corrosion, and that's its only purpose. if your connections are already corroded and not making good contact, clean them.

Really loved this vid. It taught me a lot. BUT. I have a question. "How does heat affect the life of a car battery?" I grew up in northern New Jersey where batteries would easily last 8 or 10 years. I moved to to Japan where I lived for 15 years -- batteries lasted a similar time. A decade or better. Eighteen years ago, I moved to Thailand where batteries last a maximum of four years. More likely 3 years, even on a new car/truck. Is it the quality of the battery, or the environment that makes batteries degrade here so quickly?

That's interesting! Humidity, maybe? Or different manufacturing standards between countries?

i read some where that when reinstalling the battery that its a good idea to put some Vaseline(petroleum jelly) on battery terminals and i assume the leads as well to protect the contact points from acids and elements ... you did not say anything about this at all, any thoughts on this??
@Tony-dx3eo3 жыл бұрын
Vaseline would be fine and dielectric grease would even be better.
@keithtomlin46492 жыл бұрын
Grease, vaseline acts like a insulator when grease or vaseline becomes warm it becomes a liquid; then it might slide between battery post and battery cable clamp becoming an electrical insulator. Dilectercal greas should be safe to use but, vaseline probably not.

Don't have to worry that much about caring for your lead acid battery if you just turn in your battery at Costco whenever it starts to get weak, free batteries for life if you turn it in within the nonprorated warranty. Warranty resets

Well done, but.... I needed MUCH more information on how to add water IF I don't own that fancy water can. (and don't you have to clean that water can special after you stick it in the battery acid?) What does too little water look like, what would be to much water, what are the problems of either condition too. You mention cold and freezing issues are there any to hot issues for people who live in very hot places? Common urban legend says clean your battery with coca cola... is this ok or not? could you show how to jump a battery... would really like to see a close up of where to connect the negative line in a jump. You didn't show a close up during charging.. do you leave the caps off during charging and shouldn't you see bubbles if it is charging properly??? You mention using gloves but not what kind of gloves.. are cloth gloves ok like garden gloves or do they need to be latex. Also from a safety point... it didn't look safe to me when you bent over the top of the battery while showing the charging.... just an observation. Wish I had watch BEFORE I bought a new charger... that little thing you had looks better than what I just bought. And... what do you do if your own volt test says battery is dead but the store that sold it to you (and it is still under 100% warranty) says its still good...... I guess what I mean is are there any consumer points to battery ownership that could also be discussed like prorated warranty.... and... my battery isn't a gel battery but how do you maintain one of those? (thinking of buying one for an off road jeep) Fix up all this and then promote this video to drivers ed online programs so kids can have an easy link to such an important video...... Thanks!
