Oh look a swimming hole. That winze looked very deep. Tommyknockers in that one mates. The colors were pretty. Lots of iron and copper left. Them miners must have been short in height. Lovely wet mine.

Actually, it’s Interesting, your lovely valley looks a great deal like some areas near my hometown of Nevada City in northern California. Which is ironically, neither a city, nor in Nevada, but that’s aside from the point. I can certainly understand why you love the area so much, especially as both your valley and mine are undercut with uncountable abandoned mines ripe for exploring. If you ever find yourselves itching to plumb the depths of someplace new, do please get in touch. Field trip!!!

Hey there guys. The mines you explore are incredible. Wonderful contant. I just wanted to add as a safety measure for your travels list: 1&2. some bike mechanic rubber gloves under fingerless leather gloves to avoid scratches and bacteria . Safely glasses for the water droplets that might fall. A backpack perhaps with a nylon rope, small mini pickaxe and fold shovel. A first aid kit. And for the wet cave inside a waterproof bag. A few dry towels. And some water bottles for you guys. Not hating on the bare daring exploring though. Like the cave history explaining and how they were made. Safe Travels cave explorer's!:)

At the entrance was a chipped drill steel. The shot holes were above your head coming in. Perhaps the back is high because they had to take sill out to get the grade right for drainage after they drove in. Hand drilled rounds were seldom more than a couple of feet; three max.

If it was a drainage level. Do you think they dug it out for a gradient for the water. Or how much erosion could a lot of water do given that spoilheap.

You could take a lead weight on a line to measure the depth of the flooded whins perhaps. I've done this locally at a 13th century well, of course this won't be a true depth because of the accumulated silt.

When I think of exploring old mines, I think of stories of poisonous gasses and miners literally taking canaries into the mine to monitor air quality. I have never heard you talk about this. Are harmful gases not a concern at all?
