For anyone who cannot make it to church and you are home during that time ~ ~ ~ PLEASE ~ ~ ~ ask your Bishop or Branch President to set up some kind of online Viewing so you can actually be a participant of the meeting. My hubby and I are too old to attend the meetings that are so far away in our rural community. Instead, our Branch President has set it up so we can listen to the talks and even contribute during Fast Sundays. It's SO Much Better than before Covid-19 when we could not get to church AND we could not be a part of those meetings. Now, after joining with the church congregation to listen and/or contribute to the Spiritual experience, we then turn to Unshaken and listen to Brother Halverson's Incredible Lesson of the week. His explanations are SO clear and understandable that I am Finally grasping more of what the scriptures MEAN. Just be sure you are not missing out on meetings that you Might be able to be involved in. It is SO WORTH It. :D THEN, watch Jared's lessons. Watching BOTH an online church meeting AND these lessons Truly makes for a GREAT SUNDAY. :)

When you spoke about Ruth and Boaz, I suddenly thought of the nameless 3rd person in the story, who isn't mentioned but is surely there. Someone was a spreader of good news, or the opposite of a busybody. Someone who had the ear of Boaz and knew the story of Ruth and Naomi made sure that he heard their story and knew their situation. I love people like this who quietly make things happen for good because they see others and they recognize that they can do something.

Fantastic lesson! I’ve known about Ruth and Boaz my whole life and never heard it like this it’s beautiful. I never got the levirate marriage angle. It made me cry, so selfless. Please, include us in your “Women in faith“ classes and your “Faith crisis” classes! Just put some cameras in your classroom. We’ll be there! Thank you so much for these classes!

As I was teaching my kids about the book of Judges and the Pride Cycles, this idea came to me... How can we avoid the spinning pride cycles that you taught about last week? By firmly grounding ourselves in the Rock of our Redeemer through humility and keeping our covenants. When we stand firmly on the rock of Christ, we will not spin in pride cycles. :) Thank you for teaching all of us each week!!! Miracles have happened in my life as you have taught me more about Heavenly Father and Jesus. I also receive so much personal revelation as I listen to your lessons. Thank you!!!!

I have been a member almost all of my life. But my family became inactive when i was young. So as a result, i missed out on a large amount of learning. I did not learn to pull from the scriptures the stories and the context to convert it into my life applications. I got the simple items, but nothing like what you have shared. I feel so blessed and greatful for all the time you have spent teaching the lessons and teaching us how these things apply in our lives.

I wish more people would hear your words. I am a life long member but I am different. I have heard a different call and path to walk in this life. I follow the prophet and my God with all my heart but it's a slightly different path than most yet I get judge and shamed and told how wrong I am. yet when I pray God answers me and talks with me through the spirit. It has made my willingness to go to church wain. I go for God and so far it's been enough to carry me through. Brother Halverson you are my strength through many hard ships.

My heart hurts for you. Here are my thoughts after taking a few moments to ponder what you shared. The church congregation is "the laboratory of application"- of the gospel and Jesus' teachings. It is messy... It is both a blessing and a stumbling block, at times. It is (supposed to be) the ER, triage for broken souls and misfits- not the Country Club of "Finished Saints"- as it often 'appears'. There is a lot of "posing" at church. I have also been guilty of that to cover my own insecurity. Where I find the Savior is more in individual ministering, sign up sheets, and of course, the ordinance of the Sacrament. On behalf of myself, and others who have not embraced you and your uniqueness... I humbly ask your forgiveness and pray that you will find one 'real' ministering angel to come along-side you in your ward who will love & value you- just as you are. I wish I could be that friend. I'm sure I could learn a lot from you and your life's journey. Please hang in there. Don't give up. You may be forging a path for others who struggle. And please forgive those who, like me, 'know not what they do'. Homogeneity has some big blindspots, but it is largely unintentional (not that that lessens ypur pain- at all). Love will open eyes and soften hearts, eventually. Thank you for sharing your lived experience with this community and me. It helps us to be more aware of my/our own blindspots and times when we dismiss others, act thoughtlessly, and/or "judge un-righteously". I will work on that. I pray for your peace as you continue to go to church, worship God, and glean the good in what appears to be a very uncomfortable situation. That is very courageous. I admire that.

@@curtiste3235 my dear brother in christ. How I wish others were like you and atleast willing to learn. As a roughneck I am not ashamed of the life I lead and I know as I've proven in times past that men like me will be in demand when trouble comes knocking. I recognize that the sheep never appreciate the sheep dog till the wolf is at the door. But it's hard being the only one in my entire stake. When I carry a gun at church because the members make me fear for my safety it gets discouraging. I do forgive you and all my lords sheep. It's not my place to judge his flock he called me to be a defender and the sheep never mingle with the sheep dog except when work is being done. I accept what arr church is and it's members. I know that one day I will stand before Christ not the members and I can hold my head hi because of him. Thank you for your support it does mean a lot to know some one cares from time to time.

Jared, I absolutely LOVE your lessons. I am learning so much more than I ever learned before. In this lesson of Ruth and Naomi, I always felt that when Naomi turned from speaking to Ruth that it was Naomi's way of trying to convince Ruth that she should stay behind. In other words, I thought that Naomi was acting as if she was Refusing to speak to Ruth as a way to convince Ruth that life would be much better if Ruth were to stay with her own people. Also, I have always felt the deep love and affection between the three women. Feeling that love and affection, I think that the need to part ways was almost More than any of them could bear. All three of them were feeling that their hearts were breaking. These three women were looking at what was left of their Family... being TORN APART. The pain at such a thought was Truly a situation none of them wanted to face. Thank you so much for your wonderful lessons. Barely a day goes by, anymore, when I don't enjoy a Spiritual Experience. I also watched a video with you and your wife and it was AMAZING. Could you please also tell us how to find your daughter's videos? I watch your videos every day and my Faith and my Testimony are growing SO MUCH! Thank you! :)

I've had many experiences with members of the church being very clickish and down right mean. I almost left the church over this, but then realized, that's what the tares do. They choke out the wheat, and I wasn't about to give them the pleasure.. So I stayed. I then decided that going to church wasn't about my relationship with the members, but with the Lord. It's a lonely battle to say the least.

The part of staying or going hit me very hard. After my Dad passed away, I was staying with one of my sisters. It wasn't until my Mom started to have serious health problems that I decided to quit my job and move in with her. I am the only daughter, out of 8 children, who could. Seeing as I am unmarried and without children. I have never been successful in finding a husband and while I desire this greatly. I have always helped my family all of my life, from babysitting to full on nanny. I have always put my family first instead of my own desires. I know that Heavenly Father wants me to help others but sometimes it is hard. I see all my friends and family get married and have children and not have that myself. I just hope that Heavenly Father sees my efforts and rewards me with my own family. I know that if I continue to follow Him and keep my covenants that those promised blessing will come. Even if it doesn't happen in my life here on earth. Thank you for you wonderful insights. ❤️

Ruth is a kind, loving and faithful woman. The Book of Ruth gives us a great insight into how God works through us with faith. God knew Ruth's heart and rewarded her for her faith by making her an ancestor to Jesus Christ our Savior. Ruth left her pagan life behind and followed the Lord. Hebrews 11:6 And without faith is impossible to please God, the true God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.

Must have read this 20 times in my live, but this year, understanding more about Jewish law, It makes more scene. Uncovering his feet, simple, he will wake up because his feet are cold. His reaction is perfect according to the law, but here it becomes clearer he was interested in Ruth, because he had already was trying to find the nearest kinsman. Love the reaction the near relative has, No I don't want this non pure blood woman that comes with the land. Once again, the Lord brings in his children from afar, and makes them part of his family. We should be tolerant to all as we know not the full extent of od's plans for us his children.

I’m not sure Orpah was necessarily thinking of her own future…speaking as a woman who is surrounded by strong-willed and amiable women (I have four sisters plus our Mom and all our Aunts)…if a woman keeps insisting that we do one action and we say no yet she keeps insisting, then we do it to make her happy and because we resign ourselves to the fact that she won’t change her mind. So, I could be wrong, but my view of Orpah is that she loved Naomi and was willing to go with her. By Naomi stubbornly repeating, “Go back home, there’s nothing for you here with me,” I’ve always assumed that Orpah figured she would obey her Mother-in-Law and make her happy. And possibly a little bit of “well she doesn’t want me anymore” as well. I don’t know. I love Ruth and her story; I just also think that Orpah was willing to stay with Naomi and obedient when she was told to go away as well. 🤷🏻‍♀️

When the kinsman refuses to fulfill the duty of a kinsman lest he mar his inheritance, I thought it meant that by raising up seed to Elimelech he would have to somehow split his inheritance with these new children and the children of his other wives would therefore receive less. Thoughts Jared?

Thank you Jared for another inspiring episode. I think you must have gone to the Harry Potter set when they'd finished all the filming and taken Hermione's time turner so that you could squeeze everything you do into one week, every week. It's miraculous. I also watched the fireside you did with your wife (nice to finally put a face to the references, thank you) about faith crises. That was wonderful too. This Unshaken episode took me back to my wedding, where Entreat Me Not To Leave Thee was the musical item. If you've never heard the Charles Gounod composition, I highly recommend. It's musically dazzling and the harmonies and musical character capture the essence of the scripture so well. So much of modern music fails for me, where this delivers so beautifully and powerfully.
