At min. 38 - 40. Your words have brought me such great consolation and relief. After being married / sealed in the temple, I had 3 children. I knew I was to have these three (too personal and privately spiritual to share). The reality is that each one is quite disabled and this has broken my heart for decades. I didn't know I carried rare genetic diseases or that my spouse also had one of them. Together, our children are broken, from being limited to about half of what a "healthy" person can do, one confined to a wheelchair and the other one confined to bed, all dealing with untreatable severe pain and limitations. I never would have had children if I had known. The amount of self-hatred and guilt has been unbearable. "Non-sinful consequences of the fall...that isn't punishment. The mortal condition is not punishment; it's preparation." I know that the disabled are loved by God and that disability doesn't equal sin, but the way you worded the effects of the 'jump' broke through my sadness and helped me to look forward. Thank you for comforting and reaching this mom's heart.

Dear sister, How sorry I am to hear of your family’s tremendous suffering. You are surely one of the noble and great ones for the Lord to trust you to minister to these three hurting souls. A phrase that for years has helped me get through the toughest times, is from Br. Robert Millet in a BYU education week class: He said, “I testify that you will not have to endure one inch, or one ounce more of life’s challenges than it will take to make you Celestial.”
@qtpie96453 жыл бұрын
Please do not beat yourself up about your children's imperfect bodies. They are the spirit children of a loving Heavenly Father. He blessed you with them. He entrusted you with them. Although they may not be able to do much, independently, they were born for you: for your growth; for your preparation. We left the preexistence to gain a body. Your children have accomplished that thru you. Just imagine how glorious the Resurrection is going to be for your family. It's what Christmas is all about. Our Lord was born to conquer death that we may be Resurrected to accomplish more things in the eternities. Please hold on. Please do not despair. This life is but a fleeting moment when you consider infinity. I, for one, am glad our mortal probation is but a fleeting moment. If it were any longer, don't know that I could take it. Enduring to the end is challenging for me. Let's hang on to the iron rod together. My prayers are with you, sister. Take care.

My brother is 60 yrs old but developmentally about 3-5 yrs old. My dear mother said she believes this sweet pure disabled son fought extra valiantly in the pre mortal battle against Satan . And then Satan threatened to target him extra hard in this earthly life. Dale came to receive his physical body but Satan cannot tempt him. His disability is protecting him from Satan's threats against him in the spirit world before this life. So Satan can't tempt them. They will automatically obtain the Celestial Kingdom.

@@susanwyman9853 I come to testify, not to argue, but the principle in that quote is inaccurate. Children born who will never encounter the “accountability” due to disability live lives of varying lengths. They’re born Celestial and suffer beyond that. We benefit from having them on this journey to help teach US to get through this life and become better like Christ. How tragic would it be to lose everyone the very moment they’re “Celestial” material? The Celestial heart is one of eternal consequence, it carries on and on, such a person endures MORE than necessary to help brothers and sisters on their journeys. A seal can be placed on foreheads of people still walking among us, still suffering challenges, tragedies or pains of life.
@apet17123 жыл бұрын
@@amygarner879 Where can I find that quote in context? Just my thoughts, but perhaps thinking those who depart earth life early Bc of their Celestialness might be the opposite side of the idea that those who are born disabled(the blind man) ,into great poverty, and any number of difficult situations were not as valiant premortally- John 9: 2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? 3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him I also know many Celestial souls walking around me and I am grateful for their Faith, example and strength to make me strive to be obedient, repent, and keep trying.

The trinity: Thank you so much for all of the work you put into your lectures. A couple of years ago I learned the word syzygy. It is used with a total eclipse. It means an alignment of three celestial bodies. Ever since hearing the word this is how I best think defines our view of the trinity. Three separate beings totally aligned. The etmology of the word says this, Late Latin syzygia conjunction, from Greek, from syzygos yoked together, from syn- + zygon yoke - more at YOKE. The three celestial beings are yoked together, because we need all three, and just like when you yoke oxen together the amount of work they do is exponentially greater then as a singular body. I just wanted to try and share something with you. I loved last weeks lesson on the scripture in Isaiah and in Luke and in DC. That was so powerful of how connected and tied in everything is and the scripture Christ used to announce his ministry was the same for the physical world as well as the spiritual world. Also that his ministry was to those who knew of him and were waiting for his resurrection and those that didn't. Just so amazing that he was going to minister to the people already in Zion who were mourning. I felt like I truly understood Isaiah.(Okay three verses of one chapter, but it is a start.) Thank you for all of the time you spend. It is so appreciated.

Thank you for sharing that! Did you know about this? “In a rare celestial event, the Moon will align with a number of planets including Venus, Saturn and Jupiter on the night of Sunday, December 12.” - the article continues it will be visible tonight even with the moon in a slightly different position than yesterday.

My husband was raised Roman Catholic, went to Catholic schools grades 1-12 and college, and served as an altar boy for all the years it was asked. He was finally studying with missionaries in 2019 when we were doing Come Follow Me New Testament. When we read John 17, he was astounded at what he read and understood. He even said, “Why have I never read this before?” I’m sure he had read it, just never understood it. He goes back to that moment often.

This reminded me of a funny experience I had while working in a research lab in The Bronx. One day, out of the blue, my research partner, who was from California, said, "I memorized your Articles of Faith when I was a kid." Wait, what?! Turns out that a friend invited him to primary when he was 10, and at the beginning of primary one of the leaders said that anyone who could recite all 13 articles at the end of primary would get a granola bar. Well, he wanted a granola bar, so at the end of primary he got in line with the other kids, and when it was his turn he recited all 13! I realized later that he has a nearly perfect photographic memory, so he probably still remembers them. It was the only time he ever attended our church.

Here’s a funny personal experience with the 12th article of faith. I was visiting primary years ago. In sharing time they were reviewing the articles of faith. After reviewing the 12th article of faith about being subject to kings, presidents, rulers (etc.) this 10 or 11 year old boy raised his hand and asked, “what about dictators?” The primary leaders just looked at each other dumbfounded.

If your are looking for a topic to write a book on, I encourage you to write one to us help answer evangelical people and other detractors. There are a couple of books around but they are too deep and esoteric and would take too much time to explain to the questioner. Instead, you use simple, easy to remember language that helps to back up why we believe what we do. Please consider writing such a book. I guarantee you'll sell at least one copy. 😉

I can’t thank you enough for the spiritual feast you’ve help facilitate between the Spirit and I as you’ve shared so much truth this year. I am walking through a mixed faith marriage (which started off as a strong temple marriage to a very good and returned missionary). Raising 5 kids in the gospel has been a hard road to walk down the past 4 years since my husband left the gospel path (due to church history issues he couldn’t resolve in his head). As I’ve tried my best to hold firm to the rod, finding your weekly lessons has helped me find the strength to combine knowledge to my mind to my strong resolve and sometimes “child-like” faith in these principles. I love my heart and mind both growing stronger together in the principles of the gospel. The Lord definitely has used your years of strong testimony, knowledge, and experiences to help me along this (at times) lonely hard path. Thanks for helping to shine Christ’s light so brightly for so many to see. I also consider you a close friend even though you don’t know it! Thanks brother for sharing your gift of teaching for all of us. My grip on the iron rod is much stronger because of the light you are sharing!

1:24:00 9th article of faith. It's okay to have things we don't yet understand, even if it's something that we struggle with a lot. That's because it is part of something that is yet to be revealed. And it's okay to put it on a box on a shelf, because over time things will be revealed, take it off the shelf, look at it, and then put it back if it hasn't been revealed yet. And enjoy the two other shelves of current revelation and past revelation until the future revelation is revealed.

Someone who gives us the good news of the gospel through our own eyes, just as The Gospel of Matthew is the gospel through Matthew's eyes. My own gospel tells me how to follow Christ and build his kingdom. It shows me who i really am and how God sees me.

Around 1:40 you spoke of the meek inheriting the earth..burnt charcoal & kind of joked about they are the only group of people who would want it in that state. I learned what MEEK means from a person who spoke about it in a ward I visited & got her notes. To be meek is way more deep than I ever imagined & I think of it often. Here is what she said: the word meek was originally a translation of a Greek military term. The word described WAR HORSES. Horses that made the cut to ride into the fray retained their fierce spirit, courage, and power, but were disciplined to respond to the slightest nudge or pressure of the rider’s leg. They could gallop into battle at 35 miles per hour and come to a sliding stop at a word. They were not frightened by arrows, spears, or torches. When stallions could do these things, then they were said to be meeked. Sam Whatley said, “To be meeked was to be taken from a state of wild rebellion and made completely loyal to, and dependent upon, one’s master. It is also to be taken from an atmosphere of fearfulness and made unflinching in the presence of danger. These stallions became submissive, but certainly not spineless. They embodied power under control, strength with forbearance.” With that in mind, we all ought to be meek-meek as war horses. Last conference Elder Bednar gave us some illuminating input on this topic when he said, “Meekness is a defining attribute of the Redeemer and is distinguished by righteous responsiveness, willing submissiveness, and strong self-restraint…Meekness is strong, not weak; active, not passive; courageous, not timid; restrained, not excessive; modest, not self-aggrandizing; and gracious, not brash. A meek person is not easily provoked, pretentious, or overbearing and readily acknowledges the accomplishments of other

The part about Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father being one I take to mean that they are one in purpose.

I love your videos! Sometimes it’s daunting to start a two hour video knowing you probably won’t be able to finish. Much easier to watch 4 30 min videos, a video per day. If you have time, can you also post video segments?

I watch them in segments sometimes, too, but I don't think we can ask or expect him to do more than he is already doing--create your own segments by watching as much as you can when you can.

I love settling in eachSabbath to each full lesson regardless of length. I am reviewing the Book of Mormon lessons every morning and I do half an hour- I segment each lesson myself. Just listen to as much as you can, note the time and pick up at that point the next day. I would go nuts having to play short video after short video! Brother Halverson works incredibly hard already - it’s so unfair to ask more of him!

It took me some time to figure out how to segment the lessons by using the time bar. I hope that works for you. Are not the lessons blessing our lives!!!? I like to segment the lesson and ponder on whatever part of it that needs my attention. It helped me to keep a little notebook of what time I finished a segment. Usually, I would back it up a minute or two so I knew where I truly was in the lesson. Do whatever works best for you! God bless you!

@@karenwright3683 I don't know how or why my video automatically comes back to the same place I stopped each time. There must be a setting I am not even aware of!

Excellent, as always, but we were deeply disappointed that you did not address the distinction between what Joseph Smith meant by “the gift of tongues” vs. how we tend to use that term today. In fact, we really do not seem to believe in the gift of tongues or the interpretation of same as practiced by the early Saints, do we? After all, this was not at all referring to missionaries learning foreign languages, but that seems to be how we understand “tongues” today.

I listened to a podcast today, Follow Him with John Bytheway. His guest Bro. Corbitt explained that the gift of tongues sort of morphed into the bearing of testimonies. It was a two part podcast but I think it was in part 1.

Jared, which one of your DNC episodes includes your coverage of the characteristics of anti-religious rhetoric to destroy testimonies? At one time I meant to get back on that episode and jot down the information my medical needs and other problems got in the way and I’ve lost track as to which one I need to refer back to. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks for your efforts in producing these lessons

In minutes 38-40 you mentioned "the jump." I like your take. However, I want to defend the word fall. Perhaps, I want to because I am an orthopedic surgeon and falls are part of my livelihood. haha. In all seriousness, I love the depiction of Adam and Eve making a choice but not having control over all the consequences. In fact, they fell out of the presence of God. They fell into a situation that I don't think they had complete understanding of its difficulties. Certainly, they were not aware of the pain they would have felt after Cain killed their other son Abel. Pain at the choices of another that directly affect them without any control of their own. We make choices in life that cause us to fall. We need the Atonment of Jesus Christ to elevate us from the effects of sin or even transgression (I absolutely agreed with your description of the difference between sin and transgression). Thank you for your efforts and understanding. I am excited to study and feast on the Old Testament with you next year.

Wishing we had chaplains... (1:08:32)...that's Ministering. Whatever you call it, it won't do any good if people don't minister to their "flock" they are called to serve.

Love and appreciate your work here. Completely disappointed with the glaring omission of even a cursory mention of the distinctness of the “gathering” AND the “restoration” of the lost tribes of Israel. The gathering is happening today on both sides of the veil. The restoration is described in the scriptures as a future event that will rival the miracle of Moses and the parting of the Red Sea. DC 133:26-34, Jeremiah 16:14-15. Elder James Talmage said in General Conference 1944, “There is a tendency to explain away what you do not wish to understand in literal simplicity... the prophecy stands that the (lost) tribes shall be brought forth from their hiding place...” This will be such an amazing event, you do a disservice to not testify of what the scriptures and prophets have taught so that the Saints will have hope and encouragement as they look for these signs to be fulfilled in the dark days ahead.
