As a Christian, I will say that that was a funny bit. I would ALSO say that (unfortunately) it isn't true. Gaza may have been the end of the incense trail, but as you say it was the end. One of the original places it was from - according to you - is Ethiopia. It is believed that one of the 3 wise men was FROM Ethiopia (or, the START of the incense trail.) This makes PERFECT sense, because if you are seeing a very significant light in the sky & you believe it represents a huge change in the world - SO HUGE that you are going to travel to see the implications 1st hand, you don't show up empty-handed, HOPING to find a gift of good enough significance to REPRESENT a GIFT FROM A KING, to an EVEN BIGGER KING. I too feel incensed about g°°°, but as someone who actually did read the bible that one time around age 11 that put me on the fast lane to atheism (basically I realised that out of all the world's religions, either the vast majority by way of incompatibility had to be false, or indeed all of them may be, and the weak sauce I found in that book clearly did not justify the belief that the religion I had been unenthusiastically introduced to following the coincidence of being born into a particular culture and family happened to be the one true faith), the way I recall the story did not have the three wise men buy their anti-stink at the nearest specialty market, those gifts were supposed to be typical regional products they brought from their homelands. 🤨
