I think we have yet to see what Matt is capable of as a comedian and is being limited by the demographics of his audience. Hopefully he will get a chance to do his thing in front of the typical variety of people who are comedy fans. If and when he does his improv and audience engagement comedic skills will be able to be tapped into. He's got another gear he hasn't been able to get to yet due to his audience and he knows it's not letting him really do his thing imo. I'm gonna wait until that Matt is doing shows before I pay to go see him.

The guy's been doing it for a decade plus, pretty sure he toured with Ralphie May and other respected comedians coming up too, so idk why all the hate. People saying he came out of nowhere are completely disregarding 10 years of working as a nobody, overnight sensations are rarely overnight to the person putting in the work. I do 100% get Soder's point about not wanting that audience though, drunk horny women are the cringiest hecklers

Hey, he's put the time in and he's really good at it. People hating on him are jealous and don't realize that he's been at it for a decade+. Reminds me of back in the day when I was in a band and our singer was talking sht about some typical hated on band like Nickelback or something. I wasn't into the hate. He said "dude, what's with you? You don't hate ANY bands"? I replied "hate them for what? If I don't like them I just don't buy their music. I'm happy for them, their dreams came true. Dude, WE'RE in a band hoping to make it. Good for them". We didn't make it.

@@dorkwell I got half way through one. Literally, in 1-2 minute chunks, because that's all that I could take. His whole schtick is flirting with the crowd during his long stories with lame punchlines. Much like Dane Cook, he's figured out how to cultivate an image and market himself. Good for him.

matt rife is a hilarious comic who happens to be really good looking and takes care of his body. its not like hes just a hot dude who is mediocre at comedy and is more famous than he should be just because of his looks. thats why most all of these other comics dont hate on him. hes genuinely great at stand up and even tho hes still relatively young, hes been doing it for more than a decade already. adding an edit since his newest netflix special came out: that shit was not very funny at all. his other specials are way better. I think he has just tried to put out way too many minutes in the last year and a half. theres a reason why most all comics take a couple years between specials. it takes time to come up with good sets. he has rushed to put out more specials and it shows. doesnt change the fact that he is a good comic, he just needs to take time and develop between specials. hope he learns from this mistake.

He's an average comic, which is still funny, but it's not like he's a top rate comic. His crowd work is above average, but that's about it. He does seem to also be a really good dude, but his looks have absolutely helped him sell out shows. He literally blew up because he's good looking lol. More power to him. I'm happy he takes great care of his body and got his teeth fixed, but the reality is he's nowhere near Tim Dillon, Dave Chappelle, Tom Segura, or a host of other comedians. He's not even top 20 right now.

@@85geoffmyes exactly. I think part of his near overnight success IS the fact he’s a good looking dude. Aside from that his comedy is nothing to write home about. And all his content seems to be crowd work, which can be hilarious in the right hands, but personally I’m not a big fan of it anyways. It often becomes a straight up conversation with only a few, mildly funny moments. It gets redundant for me. I want to see MATERIAL So ya, while I’ve seen some Matt Rife clips that made me chuckle, he’s a very average comic propped up by swooning women
