First of all, may I say that I am almost 90 years of age, so I can remember Abbott and Costello in their prime, and I never thought that I would see our younger generation enjoying these sketches as much as this lovely lady did. She really got into the sketch, even as far as shouting the answers out to the film clip. It juust goes to prove that true comedy is timeless. Well done to this young lady.

Pretty sure this is older than the 50s. I think the basic sketch dates to the depression era and was in more or less its present form by the time America entered WWII. And yes, it's a classic: there have been minor references to it all over pop culture for decades, which you'll start to notice now that you're familiar with it. Cartoons, movies, music, comedy, etc. all refer back to it here and there, from time to time. It's almost as pervasive that way as the To Be or Not To Be speech.
