@@slaton192 To me, The Dinner Party is far worse than Scott's Tots bc it's more realistic. I can realistically see myself getting forced into an awkward dinner party and having to deal with that. Scott's Tots just feels too surreal. Random guy promises he'll pay for an entire class to go to college with nothing in writing and no follow up on it from anyone for 10 years? Not believable enough to me to be the most uncomfortable episode.

I started watching The Office in my prime “I’m woke” phase and I laughed the whole diversity day episode. Y’all are right, I felt like the joke wasn’t on us, it was on *them* and their ignorance. And also…I learned very quickly if I was going to be mad at everything Michael Scott did I wouldn’t make it through the series because my God on today😂

yeah I agree, the joke was on the borderline racist (or racially/culturally ignorant) people who behave the way Michael did. Half the reason it was so funny is because most of us have bumped into people like him in real life. 30 Rock pulled episodes for similar reasons and its quite frankly annoying that one person with their finger on the button, who obviously doesnt get the joke, can make it so we dont get to laugh at these episodes any more.

I disagree (about him being like Archie Bunker) but I do think that Michael Scott tried so hard to be liked and considered cool, coupled with the fact that he was absolutely clueless when it came to being sensitive to what was offensive to others that the inadvertently crossed the line and got himself in trouble a lot. I think Archie Bunker was just a bigot that didn't care who he offended. Definitely agree with the rest of your point though. The fact that people wanted to cancel the episode totally defeats the purpose of the episode to begin with.

I think The Office could definitely be aired today, bc it’s a social commentary, the humor is in the irony and ignorance.
