Anyone who is critical of the IDF’s conduct in Gaza, brings up casualty numbers, etc., should be confronted with what John Spencer says. He’s arguably the foremost expert in the world on urban warfare. You will gather that from the introduction. Plus, unlike the critics, he’s been in Gaza. It’s long but educational. He’s previously written that the IDF has done more to minimize civilian casualties than any military in history. In terms of civilian combat casualties, the numbers are better than wars we have waged.

In mid May, Bibi claims 14,000 "terrorists" have been killed and 16,000 civilians. However, only about 35% of the people killed in Gaza are men of military age... half of Gaza's population are kids. So unless Hamas suddenly got big into women's lib, that 14,000 is a joke. (Oh, and the estimate of the total number of Hamas+allied combatants which existed on Oct 7 was about 15,000.) FWIW: Hamas's Oct7 attack (by IDF's numbers) killed 1139 people, 373 or who were security personnel. A 1:3 combatant to civilian ratio.

We’ve known for 2500 years now that the faster a war is concluded, the less civilians die. So, the priority is always speed. If you start prioritizing the mitigation of civilian deaths over speed, you will cause more deaths overall by delaying the conclusion of the war. This incident showcases the resistance's capabilities. From the ruins of war, they prepare for renewed fighting, setting ambushes wherever the occupation forces intrude. They have stockpiles of ammunition and weapons, and an unyielding determination to achieve victory, regardless of how long it takes. Explosions, shelling, sniping, and an iron will that doesn't bend. Against this wall of resistance, the occupation's hopes crumble as its soldiers fall, killed and wounded, unable to stop the rockets raining down from that small area. This is a major war, one that armies of nations and regimes fear, a furnace consuming the occupying army. Netanyahu doesn't care about his army's attrition, as he has ulterior motives beyond his declared objectives. He aims to delay accountability for his failures, hoping to avoid a political downfall if the war ends in a loss that leaves no alternative but a larger regional conflict. However, the occupying entity is drained by this war of attrition, with support fronts joining the fight, starting with Lebanon, the second most active front with direct geographical contact. Operations of various kinds have exhausted military leaders and settlers alike. Iraq and Yemen also contribute, supporting the resistance with strategic operations by air, sea, and well-planned phased positions. This strengthens the resistance axis and puts pressure on Israel internally, dividing its focus in a prolonged war unlike any it has seen since its establishment. The most important moral question we should be asking is: What does the world look like if Hamas’s tactics are normalized - where attacking (civilians or military targets) and then falling back behind and under your own civilians is a legitimate way to fight a war and avoid consequences?
