This guy was popular in a time when it was hard to be popular and he probably had many more viewers than most people who you think are popular today. It was a lot harder to break out in the '90s than it is now, and he BLEW up in fame, QUICK. You really needed to be talented back then or people wouldn't notice you or give you work. And he definitely is. In many ways. More so than most people in Hollywood probably. I honestly don't know why he was even forgotten somewhat. It's surprising that he was, in my mind -- at least in mainstream popularity (he was never NOT famous, except when really young).

This reminds me of my own story. I was a junior attorney tasked with taking new recruits out to dinner. I picked an expensive restaurant since we were on the firm's dime. Halfway through the appetizers I noticed two guys way underdressed for such a fancy place. I asked the recruit, is that Dennis Rodman at the bar? The recruit replied I think the other guy is Tom Green? We couldn't for the life of us figure out what those two were doing with each other. It puzzled me for weeks until I found out both of them were on The Apprentice (which was still filming and was a long way from airing). It wasn't until I saw this just now that I realized it actually was a whole plot point in the show.

That guy is a real jerk.
@penguinjay3 жыл бұрын
@@derrickgough6219 lol, his marks deserve it, once you realize it, then it becomes funny. Much like Tom Green's comedy always seemed better when his marks were deserving and not random people. Norm likes to bully people who are passive aggressive or fake mostly. The people he bullies are major bullies off camera, Norm just has the balls to serve their shit right back in their face in front of everybody.
@derrickgough62193 жыл бұрын
@@penguinjay That's a classic Norm bit. He will describe something like a serial killing cannibal and then be like "Did you hear about this guy? He's a real jerk." But, I agree with your comment entirely. It was interesting to see how Norm would treat guests differently on his podcast based on the amount of respect he had for them. I'm a huge fan of both Tom and Norm, both are more cerebral than the way they want to be perceived and it makes for some of the most genuinely funny moments in conversation.

As a fellow Canadian comedian, I'm super proud of your storytelling vibe, pacing, contextualizing, well-positioned mini-punchlines. It was just great! Very cool also that you're now a US Citizen. Congrats. I'll be tuning in!

Aw man, when he mentioned his old internet show... that pause, that face... that is PTSD right there. Not even joking. I love this guy, I respect him, he's an inspiration and a role model. That was some kind of dark time for him. He was just a shell of his former self. He somehow became the butt of the kinds of jokes he used to craft. For some reason he just couldn't roll with it. It was like that scene from the old Superman movies where he lost his powers and got punched in the face and just couldn't hardly process what was going on. You see those eyes? Those rings like looking down at a couple tree stumps? Yeah, the internet did that. Yeah, *you* did that. You broke a legend. You know who you are! >;0
