I have really been intimidated of making yeast rolls. I just felt like I could never get them right and to be honest scared. I watched your video which I love watching yall's videos. I'm gonna do it. You just show it in a no mess up way. Thank yall for showing a scary cat like me how to make yeast rolls. And by the way I would sure love to come sit at yall's table!!

So easy to make and so delicious. I tasked my daughter with making these today while I was at church. Gave her the video with receipe and got her as far as the yeast bloomed. After 1st rise she rolled out the dough and cut with my pizza cutter. They turned out absolutely delicious. She was very proud of herself for someone who never makes much from scratch and never rolls or bread.

In 2001, one of our granddaughters (who is 28 now) attended an elementary school that served the best rolls I had ever eaten. When I asked the lunchroom crew about them, the sweet lady who made them graciously shared the recipe with me. It is almost exactly like the one you posted, except shortening rather than lard (only 1/4 cup), a slightly different amount of flour and no egg at all. You are not kidding that the rolls are absolutely the very best! I didn't think to ask the lady her name at the time, but I saw an obituary last year and vaguely thought, "Hmmm, I might know that lady." I read the obit, and sure enough it mentioned she worked a few years AT A SCHOOL CAFETERIA, and she was famous with friends and family for HER ROLLS. I am so glad I was visiting the school during the time she worked there and very thankful to stumble upon her obituary and finally know her name. God has his ways! Rest in peace, dear Janice, and thank you so much for the recipe. And thank you guys for sharing with everyone what I'm sure is almost exactly the same. Those who try it won't be disappointed. As a side note, my beloved grandmother shared the butter/molasses thing with me when I was a child, except with biscuits. Thanks for the memory. ❤

This sounds just like the same recipe my Mom used. She too was a Ministers' wife. My Dad was an Episcopalian Priest. My mom would make these rools, only she rolled the up as butterhorns. She would put them in bags of six. Her famous rolls would be sold before she could even make it in the door. She is gone now but, my brothers and me make them.

My grandmother used to make the best dinner rolls that were softball size. It took me years to figure how she did it. I now use a bread machine for the dough. After she passed away an aunt told me she switched to frozen bread dough for the last few years. She had trouble seeing in her last years .

I miss the Amish and Mennonite stores in Kentucky. Loved to get my spices, meats and cheeses from them. I had cow shares too and got my milk and cream from them too and made butter and ice cream from it. There was a guy that did salt cured ham for me too. Oh and the fried pies of my. I bought a carrot cake from on Amish lady it was amazing. I weighed it once it was 5 lbs. she only charged my $6 for those cakes. She was the same lady that taught me how to quilt. They are always so kind and loving people. Wish some of these other people out here in the world had their loving hearts.

Yummy Grampa would bring in the country ham from the smokehouse & grandma would put it in a lard stand with hot water to clean off the mold & salt. Then he would slice it off with a big butcher knife & grandma would fry it up & make red eye gravy. Best eating in the world !!!!

I am going to have to make a batch of those rolls when I am having guests. They remind me of the delicious, homemade rolls that the cooks in the small high school in Western Kansas made for us several times per week for our lunches during the time that I taught there from the mid-1980s through the early-1990s. That small high school in Natoma, Kansas will always be my most memorable position - only about 90 students in the entire high school at the time.

Same here. My Dad would do sorghum molasses and butter and put on biscuits and on cornbread. 😊

I'm currently in Florida, but my family lived in Charleston, West Virginia. Every morning there was homemade biscuits, sorghum molasses, butter, country ham and red-eyed gravy. And of course eggs basted in bacon grease 🫠 What more do you need. And I'm currently getting ready to go order your book. Thank you so much for taking me back there with my granny and papaw 💕... Quite often there are also be only sausage gravy 😋

Your "sigh" at the end of a bite says it all. Thx for the recipe. It reminds me of my Aunt Maxine and the yeast rolls she'd make only for special occasions. ❤

Oh, they made fresh baked rolls that looked just like your rolls when I was in high school. They were incredible and sold for 5 cents. After all the meals were served, the rolls would be sold and the boys lined up. About 1972-1975.

Wow! So quick story. My great grandmother was famous for her yeast rolls too. They were famous in her area and she sold them at church bake sales. Her recipe was passed down but it was written in shorthand and we couldn't exactly replicate them. Fast forward 20 years I was flilpping through a cookbook she had learned to cook from as a young wife and found the yeast rolls. She had taken two printed recipes and mixed them and made them her own from the best I could tell. It all clicked and what a fun story. All that to say is your recipe is nearly identical to hers. Hers is a double batch for making a second round later in the week and it's made with a sponge so it more resembles sour dough. I know your rolls are fabulous because my grandma's are too. Thank you for your amazing recipes. I have become a fan of your passion

Jenny, we really loved reading your story! Our grandmothers and great grandmothers were wonderful role models for us in the kitchen. They had a tremendous "feel" for cooking. We so appreciate that you are a part of our channel. Thank you for joining us at the table.

Mom used to take a cold stick of butter right out of the fridge and use the square end to gently rub all over the tops of the hot-out-of-the-oven rolls. Easy Peasy and no mess!

She would peel the paper back on the stick of butter, about half way down, so she wouldn’t get butter on her fingers. Then wrap the butter back up and put it back in the fridge.

My grandfather mixed dark karo syrup and butter together in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Such a great thing on southern buttermilk biscuits

Oh my gosh! This reminds me so much of Thanksgiving when I was young. (I’m 82 now). My mother would make homemade yeast rolls and bread quite often and we devoured them in no time flat! lol. I also loved her cinnamon rolls. I make them but they never taste as good as hers. I think she put a little more love in them than I did! 😂. I hope you all have an awesome Thanksgiving! God bless you and your family. ❤🙏🏼

Wish you’d venture out into the new world of fresh milled flour. Milling your own and making it’s a whole other world of nutrition and so healthy for you. Also an old professional baker told me he keeps his yeast in freezer at all times use what you need and put it back it never dies that way! I’ve proven that to be true.

That is so wonderful my dad cured country hams for many years from 1949. They were sugar cured and hickory smoked and with yeast rolls - just heaven! Thanks for the memory. We still operate Big Walker Lookout but sadly don’t cure hams any more. There’s a place in Kentucky that still does and they sound like they do it right. God bless

You released this at the perfect time. My family had been trying to make yeast rolls for the past couple of weeks with no success. Today we tried our hand at this recipe and they turned out so well. This will be a staple during the big holidays, thank you.
