I own all three of these comics. Pretty much agree with the conclusion as well. Bendis intended Wanda to be in that Avengers book, so I think he and the comic itself can be excused. Unlike Batman 50. The fantastic artwork (to me) does *not* excuse all the tie ins I bought, just to be told at the end, "BWAHAHA!!! SUCKER!!!"

This is far funnier: Avengers Disassembled: Doctor Strange: "There's no such thing as Chaos Magic" New Avengers #26: Doctor Strange refers to Wanda's Chaos Magic Strange's reputation has never really recovered from this. Bendis can't even keep to his own continuity (and he doesn't know who Shuma Gorath and Chthon are), and the creepy undertone of misogyny in Bendis' robotic writing of Wanda is the reason Alan Heinberg ret-conned the Doombot. The point Heinberg is making is that Bendis writes Wanda like a brainless robot. Likewise, Dan Slott had Chthon brutally mock everything Doctor Strange said in Disassembled , in another pointed dig at Bendis. Chthon's words are clearly directed at Strange AND Bendis. Bendis tried to remove Chthon, David Sexton (Marvel Tarot), Dan Slott (Mighty Avengers) and Jeff Parker (Mystic Arcana) put him right back in.

I understand what Tiffany is saying, trying to separate the hype of the wedding from the actual issue itself, but...I don't think that's possible. Batman proposed to Catwoman like a year and a half ago, they built this up like this was the surest thing ever, and then YOINK. And then Tom King has the audacity to go on some interview and apparently say "I mean, really, the wedding storyline is all the way up to issue 100". Nah. Batman is the worst one here by a WIDE margin, because it wasn't ever meant honestly and then retconned into a lie later, this was something they spent like 30 issues actively lying to the audience about on purpose, and clearly not to make some grand statement, but to make money off the hype. Oh, and for the record, Tom King, Batman is more interesting when he isn't totally defined by edgy bullshit like I MUST BE MISERABLE OR ELSE I CAN'T HELP PEOPLE.

I’m glad Mar-vell never came back. His death is one of the few in comics that matters, and was incredibly heartbreaking to read, especially because it stuck. Plus, you can’t just come back from cancer after you’ve DIED from it.

No. Tom King was all in on the push as well. And the marketing doesn't excuse the poor lead up to this issue. He doesn't get to say that the first 50 issues will be good after reading the second 50 issues. Issue 50's story fell flat after promising to be so much more. It deserves the panning it got. I love the art, and I loved 95% of the run up to the issue (I Am Bane being the exception), and then Tom King threw a bunch of cop out story beats in issue 50. And to make things worse, he just drops a final page reveal that makes absolutely no sense. No one bought a $4.99 Batman wedding issue to see Bane make a cameo.

That retcon with the New Avengers book is absolute garbage and just something Marvel is REALLY bad about (as a reader of both, I have no allegiance to either)- retconning cool ideas to keep a status quo. The idea that Wanda and Clint had sex despite the fact that she killed him was an interesting idea, adding ambiguity to BOTH of their characters, putting complexity to their relationship as occasional allies, them enemies. But nope, Dr Doom made a fuckbot of Wanda SOMEHOW with her powers of reality-altering chaos. All to make sure that... I don't know, something stays static here?
