There are 3 levels of collectors - 1 the reader who reads the comic book then tosses it in the corner and lets it collect dust. 2 the collector/reader who reads then comic book then puts it in the bag and board to collect and keep nice. 3 the collector who doesn't read the comic book and just lets em sit in the bag and board for the cover art.

Yes, comics should be enjoyed. All my comics are alphabetized in short boxes. None of them in bags or boards. They are ready to READ whenever I want to. They are for me. The artwork and story do not evaporate or get damaged. One thing I really love about comics is rereading them, so I like them accessible. If I bought old comics at premium prices, I'd probably keep them in the bag and board they came in, and never read them. But almost all my comics were bought at cover price. I'll buy some back issues, most of them at $2 to $4, so the same or less than a new comic. Hmmm, I have a few comics I didn't like. I bagged and boarded them in case they become valuable and I can resell them. Since I don't plan on rereading those, accessibility isn't an issue.

Needless to say those books looked great in the photos but by the time they got to my mailbox (2 weeks later, mind you), even after careful cleaning, humidification & pressing neither book will ever get a grade above 6.5, maybe 7.0 if I'm lucky & CGC goes easy on them.

Well to be fair the pile on the left were in a binder. Like we had back in the day. Boards and bags did exist back then. But the poly did stick to the book sometimes back then. I personally used the brown paper bag I got at my local store back then. We didn’t have a “LCS” we had what was called in my town “News Room”. That sold all kinds of stuff! I personally old got comics back then like what was popular in pop culture I.E. GI Joe, transformer, robo cop, etc. the Incredible Hulk and Iron man as well as spider man books I did collect would come out and the owner would put each one in a brown bag for me! It was awesome! Also i kept my useless sports cards in a binder thinking they had value when they were mass produced which almost killed the “collectible” aspect in the 1990’s! CGC was almost nonexistent and over street was expensive and only came out once a year! Wizard literally just came out as to point to what’s “hot” like the mass produced death of Superman. Sorry about writing a book. But this thread made me think about them days. So thanks! And you’re right! Absolutely!
