The Fantastic Four was like a revival of four Golden Age characters, Plastic Man, Human Torch, the Heap and Invisible Scarlet O'Neil. Early issues of CAPTAIN AMERICA COMICS had a backup strip called Tuk, Cave Boy. He was a survivor of his tribe looking for the fabled city of Attilan, later used as the city of the Inhumans. Also, Tuk's name in his language meant "Avenger". The first Avenger!

Ghostrider too. This is different, but Bill Everett created the earliest Amazing Man, and in DC Comics' All Star Squadron, an 80s series about the same golden era, there's a newly created Amazing Man named Will Everett.

There was another golden age Thor published in 1940 in weird comics 1-5, who was much More like Kirby's Thor in that he was a human who could transform in to the God thor, wore a similar helmet and had an autoreturning hammer. Rick Jones also had another precursor, Ricky Davis the sidekick of Captain Flash, the accident that creates said captain Flash is a Cobalt radiation explosion, the Captain like the the Hulk shields Rick with his own body from the radiation and is forever changed. The story of a Prisoner of war being assisted in getting superpowers by a self sacrificing fellow prisoner/mad scientist, was also used as the origin story for "The destroyer" Stan Lee's first ever superhero story.
@psychdlc5 жыл бұрын
And speaking of The Destroyer, he was a direct inspiration for Drax The Destroyer (yup, the green guy from the Guardians of the Galaxy). If you look at the way Drax appeared when he was first created by Jim Starlin and Mike Friedrich in 1973, you'll notice some obvious similarities, like the goofy looking widow's peak skullcap, and the skull emblem on the chest.

There was another Captain Marvel published by M.F.Enterprises a couple of years before Marvel’s version. He was an android from a destroyed planet, whose special word was “Split”, which enabled him to break off parts of his body. He could also make his street clothes appear and vanish at will. His teen sidekick was Billy Baxton (Batson?). Talk about a mash-up of superheroes.

Just an interesting fact, characters in DC and Marvel with the same name! I am sure there are more, these are just off the top of my head; Dr. Doom Boomerang Captain Marvel Guardian Blockbuster Sandman Enchantress Sentinal Tarantula Changeling Atlas Andromeda Catseye Bushmaster Destiny Firebird Jack O'Lantern Impulse Jester Lilith Medusa Nemesis Miss America Mockingbird Nightshade Nighthawk Wizard Oracle Onslaught Orphan Ares Atom Smasher Scarecrow Deadeye Some are more important in Marvel, some are more important in DC, and some are about the same in importance.

9:00 -- A more famous (infamous?) Iron Man predecessor was a Quality Comics back-up feature called "Hugh Hazzard and his Robot, Bozo the Iron Man". No, really. It was another proto-Big Guy and Rusty or Robot Archie series wherein the "suit of armor" was a robot big enough for the eponymous hero to climb up inside of and pilot.

I also think the Golden Age Metalo, with one L, also looks very like the original Iron Man and with his green cloak, Dr. Doom as well.

You missed another Golden Age Thor. In Weird Comics #1, cover date April 1940 by Fox Features Syndicate, has a story about "Thor, The God of Thunder" by Wright Lincoln and Pierce Rice. "Grant Farrel, an ordinary mortal, is suddenly invested with the supernatural powers of the ancient god Thor, Son of Odin, Supreme Ruler of Valhalla. " He didn't last long. A few issues later, Wright Lincoln wrote stories about Dynamite Thor, but that character had nothing to do with the Norse god, in spite of his name. comicbookplus.com/?dlid=16579

9:58 Errr you know this trope is older right? Before the Green Lama the Shadow also did it. That's what Batman Begins rips off. and the VERY first character who did it was Rocambole. Who is France's first anti-hero from the 1860s. www.coolfrenchcomics.com/Rocambole0.jpg You also didn't mention how Iron Fists and Green Arrow's origins are just minor variations on this origin.

Shazam lawsuit isn't complete bull crap. He was in fact created to be a none copy right infringement knock off of superman to jump onto the new super hero superman craze. So he is a copy. The problem is the fact he is a none copy right infringement superman. He has enough to be like superman but still different to be his own unique character. He isn't hurting the copyright. That is why it sucks.

The heroes of the golden Age timeless and those names a version of the similar historic age of comics go further back to novels and stories about heroes and the fact that heroes come from the pages of famous books through out history and right back the legends of the old world of our ancient writers the very most common thing is a good story or imagination to put pen to paper and myths to bring those characters to life, and to be able to tell the readers of the fable and tale that heroes are still human beings just have unusual powers or their story isn't always strictly normal however the way of many storybooks and comics do have many codes about how hero must act and treat the world but it changes of the course of their own stories and beliefs through time no hero remains the same with different writers and characters that come and go names change or the origin of the hero alters through his or her own regeneration or something big or small turns their way from being a hero to someone who walks both sides of good or evil? Hero isn't one it's many a single theme or a idea just given a name like Doctor or Nurse and soldier and Policeman/women but their human, legend start somewhere on pages or has a true story?

It just makes me sad that the comic book industry is more of a corrupt business than people imagine. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby get credit as original creators, but the reality is they took from existing properties and storylines to produce what we know as mainstream Marvel comic book characters. Nothing great about that.
