My theory was that there really wasn’t anyone under the mask. Teen Titans tried to actively avoid DC lore and origins of their characters usually. They’re just robot, animal man, witch, alien, and . They did break this rule many times over the course of the series, yes. Most notably Raven and beast boy who both had whole arcs centred around their past. But it’s very clear that their stance is making a fun character and dealing with everything else later. So by that extension, who was under the mask didn’t matter because his character was the mysterious antihero.

I still believe in the theory that Red X is Grant Wilson, Slade’s first born son A.K.A. The First Ravager. They introduced Rose Wilson as Ravager in the Teen Titans’ show comic, but never Grant, so it would be an interesting way to reintroduce him to the series, either by the help of a times gadget in his heart that reenergized his heart and increase his adrenaline to give him a second wind, or him being a clone after death, or resurrected by science or the way of Jason Todd. Whenever I think of a "super hero school", the X-Men's "Xavier Academy" comes to mind. To me, that's the template of how a "school for the gifted" should be handled. And with their ever-expanding roster of characters, I think that's a concept they should always incorporate w/ their stories. As far as Red X's identity is concerned, I think it should remain a mystery (especially if they come up w/ half-baked stories like this), because that's pretty much the most interesting thing about him. I fear that DC is going to do the whole Joker-thing, & make a bunch of characters w/ the same name & poorly try to explain a few of their lame backstories. To me, doing that just cheapens the original character. While I think it's rather lazy writing to create a character, but never give them a legit backstory, I prefer that for maybe 1 or 2 characters, instead of giving them multiple "questionable" histories and/or "copycats". And I've always hated stories where they just create characters, hype them up, simply to kill them off & their deaths really don't matter much (outside of a possible resurrection of some sort).

Personally I stayed away from the new comics due to caution of the whole identity problem. I always liked the idea that Red-X was just an honorable thief whose ID didn't really matter. I never liked the theory of Jason Todd due to Red-X calling Dick 'kid' since Dick would be older than Jay; _that_ and Jason Todd, at the time of Red-X's creation, wasn't Red Hood and hadn't yet returned from his character death. I orginally liked the theory of Grant Wilson being the real Red-X, but this doesn't work for me entirely since X points out that he knows how to be a hero. Of course, he could just mean that he knows generally rather than intimately. Recently, I've preferred the theory of Red-X being a one-off character similar to Lance Bruner. Lance appeared in a single issue way back when where Bruce took the kid in for reasons too weak to really repeat. The kid was trouble from the start and, at some point, stole the Robin uniform in some half baked plot to sell Batman's identity. My reasoning for bringing up this odd little random is because Lance's impersonation of Robin was so convincing that even Batman couldn't tell the difference between he and Dick. And that's my incredibly weird explanation for why Robin and X have the same voice actor. Or, I don't know, X could just be an honorable no-name thief who's out for number one.

@J__T Жыл бұрын
@@letemknowdae My analysis of the Red-X character does not stem from the comics. I state that I have stayed away from them because I'm certain I will be disappointed. But, hey, you did comment, so here I go; your first reason can easily be explained: DC, as well as other comic companies & series, often do reboots or crises to restart the stories often for either younger or newer readers or because the storylines are so dang confusing that even the writers are messing it up. Lance Bruner has only had _one_ single issue back before any crisis to my knowledge. IF Red-X is Lance Bruner, then this could be the new continuity for him. This same explanation can be used for the cartoon as well. Your second reason ties back into my initial statements over my analysis of his potential identity. Cartoon Red-X never had known powers - he didn't need them and it is pointless to give them to him. However, this powered version could always be simply another pretender and the true version either doesn't exist in that timeline/world or is out of the game for whatever reason. I'd call this last bit of reasoning denial if I actually cared about the Red-X comics. I care about the original version though. I should point out, your comment further proves my initial assessment; Red-X should have stayed as an 'honorable no-name thief who's out for number one.'

I have a problem that Dick, from the comics, has been Red-X like in the cartoon. In the cartoon, Robin was more serious and obsessed with catching Slade. That attitude is not consistent with the Dick of the comics, especially in the days of New Teen Titans. This Dick, like Robin, wouldn't do anything to infiltrate a criminal organization without telling his friends of his plan. If they had said Red-X was an alias used by Tim or Damian, that would have made more sense. There is also the problem that the Red-X II is more or less a copy of Deathstroke or Wrath, when in the cartoon he was a thief with a neutral alignment. And it's not like the whole "too many characters being introduced" argument can be used here, since Strange Academy introduced the main 9 to 12 students that we would follow since issue one and it did a better job at making the readers care for at least half of them than this book did in eight numbers

Beast boy: oh, man he got away again how are supposed to ask him if he keeps escaping? Robin: I’m not sure just yet! Raven: at least he knows where he’s heading Gotham city. Star fire: wait, that’s Robins city why would red X wish to go to gotham for. Beast boy: maybe he’s a big fan for Batman just saying. Cyborg: there’s gotta be a much easier explanation that. Robin: I don’t know why he’s heading for Gotham. Death stroke: perhaps I can shed some spotlight from your shadow. Robin: Slade! Death stroke: was, but nevermore call me deathstroke. Robin: I prefer punch it… uh (realizing slate is a hologram) Cyborg: okay? Death stroke: save your strength, Robin you’re gonna need it! Raven: what do you want? Death stroke: ancient history, lesson, no less. I know who is behind that mask well, let’s just say he’s nothing but a previous image from your last life before you created the teen titans. Beast Boy: previous image I don’t get it. Death stroke: I don’t expect you to understand just yet, but you will. Robin: I guess I have no other choice all right who is behind the mask. Death stroke: a former sidekick between you and your (Mentor) when he used to be good at giving you clues and tips before he was kidnapped and beaten to death by a lunatic and his blonde. Robin: you don’t mean..(gasp)! Star fire: Robin what is he talking about? Robin: I know who x is .. Jason. Cyborg: who is Jason? Death stroke: Jason Todd, was once a member of the bat team. He never had a chance to be formidable as Batman and robin are. his only goal is to hack through computers. That was until I came in and gave him the opportunity that he deserves. Robin: no, it can’t be true! Raven: why is that? Robin: because Jason is dead, joker killed him back at the warehouse. The night were Batman and I broke up. I couldn’t found the body. Beast boy: that kind explains your brutal side, but that doesn’t explain why he’s alive if he is. Death stroke: let’s just say this is a sad, but betrayal story. It all started two years ago the day before Batman, and robin have torn apart Ras Al goal, my master who is the league of the demons while he used to admire the God, who created the Lazarus pit trigon. Raven: I heard about the Lazarus pit. It has the power to grant immortality. But It’s only temporary for one century. Death stroke: correct! Ras try to make a deal with Batman to wed his daughter Thalía, but he refused because he sees my master as a Tyrant, or at least an honorable one. Refusing to bring Gotham city to their knees together he went on his own so after that, Ras decided to bailout the joker out and kidnap Jason for ransom, but I warned him it would not turned out as planned due to his insanity. So he sent me to keep a sharp eye on him to make sure it is go as planned soon after that, I realize I was right Joker had other plans, wanting revenge on Batman for his appearance, and for his previous schemes have foiled beneath him. It seems after joker designated the warehouse. That’s where you Robin attempt to make one last effort a rescue mission. But I broke in and rescued Jason first, but not before he was already suffered enough. After that that’s when your disobedience lead you in bad mental break up because he fears for your safety would be next after his. But it was never the same ever since both of your families had supper the same fate on the very night. Robin: you stay out of this. Death stroke: fine by me anyway before my final mission for the league of the demons I asked Ras for one last request revived Jason. so he agreed after admitting his mistakes for bailing out the joker. soon the Lazarus pit only had one side effect for Jason growth, acceleration, which is why he kept insulting your age because he’s never been that bigger before. After that I I offer a deal to get revenge on the joker for his life, and for the break up of Batman, and robin, if he serves me as my apprentice and son partner in crime by learning, all the basics of how to survive and how to be lethal and confident something that Batman would never promised, as soon as he agreed. After years and months under training with Tara, he was finally complete, but not before he noticed you adapted your secret identity as red x when you made a marvelous performance for him. which is why I chose you Robin, so you can finally be reunited with Jason one last time, but you refused to meet him face-to-face. Cyborg: but how do you get the suit anyway? Death stroke: it seems after my demise, Jason implanted. My mask in the tower will trigger my signal for Robin and Raven when they arrival between me and Trigon has been gone after that, he hacked into your’s safe and took the suit and the Zynothium and decided to become the true rightful owner for this outfit. The moral of the story is… Robin: never make a deal with a lunatic without any protection. Death stroke: correct, and speaking of which this ordeal with red X isn’t over yet. Raven: But why are you telling us this you have a score to settle with him or something. Death stroke: there’s no betrayal from past let’s just say my reasons are my own but for the record, you have a choice to make and decide. Beast boy: choice? Death stroke: you may try your best to redeem Jason before you finally takes revenge on the mad man who is responsible for his life.or prepared to witness his destiny to be fulfilled, and his revenge to be sealed in cold blood. Robin: that’s not gonna happen redemption or not I have to stop this. Star fire: how? Robin: I know who is after he’s going after the joker he’s the madman. Cyborg: your cum, and Slade, or stroke? Death stroke: no, thanks cyborg I have more important things to fulfill I’m going to be expecting a new worthy adversary to please me. Robin: another apprentice? Death stroke: even better ..a partner!

Although I respect the main comic continuity for finally giving Red X an identity, I think in the original TV show it works better if we don’t know for sure who he is. Simply put the mystery of who Red X is is his biggest selling point. I mean he makes only a handful of appearances throughout the show and apart from being highly skilled, a decent thief, and kind of a bad boy there isn’t really much to his personality. Literally every ability that he has he stole from Robin, so him not having a definitive identity was the only thing that gave him identity. So although I think for the main comic continuity it’s great that he has a real face and name and you can totally add his true identity to your teen titans head canon but I think it’s best if we never know for sure who it is in the show’s universe. Also before anyone says it no he was not Jason Todd in the show. Red X was clearly intended to be older than Robin by the fact he kept on referring to the boy wonder as “Kid” so unless teen titans pulled a white knight and made Jason the first robin that wouldn’t have ever worked.

@@xnate26x91 Fair enough, maybe he could have pre-dated Dick Grayson, I mean beast boy does reference Jason Todd as a robin while Dick Grayson is still in the costume, but but then why would he become a thief? Why would he work for criminals instead of trying to take over the criminal underworld? Also if it is Jason Todd why is he focusing on the Titans and not going directly after Batman or The Joker? Don’t get me wrong Jason Todd being red x is a decent theory but I think it just brings up too many questions.
@lordofninjas12 жыл бұрын
@@comicfan1324 why would he become a thief? My guess would be to be able to fund the Red-X stuff and the gadgets and everything he uses. Why would he work for criminals? My guess would be to get in good with them so he can learn their weaknesses and secrets to be able to take them over. Why is he focusing on the Titans? My guess is that Joker is in Arkham or dead and that Batman is either retired, dead, or in a post-Knightfall state, so he needs someone to go after and the next closest connection would be Dick Grayson and so by proxy the Titans as well. If not, who's to say he isn't also going after Batman and Joker off screen as Red Hood, and then using the Red-X identity to go after Grayson and the Titans so as to not easily connect it to him, as Dick would likely know who Red Hood is and as such would know how to fight him and such. Also, while he does refer to Grayson as kid, which does imply that he could be older, it could also just be sort of a taunt or tease or dig at Grayson or whatever, like a "I'm younger but more mature than you" or "I'm younger but have my own identity while you still choose to identify as a kid" or something like that. In other words he's basically calling Grayson childish and immature and such while he sees himself as above that and such as a sort of "compared to me you are a kid, even though I may be younger than you" type thing. That sort of thing does happen, like when people of any age are arguing and bickering people may in a teasing way say "ok children, you can stop fighting now" to point out the immaturity and childishness of how they are acting and such.

Like you, I struggled to remember the names of several of the students over the series, whereas in Avengers Academy I knew ALL of the main character's names. The entire Titans Academy series felt like disposable filler. I honestly did not remember who Brick was when he was revealed as X. For a second I thought he was Bunker, due to him using brick constructs as his powers. And honestly. after typing that out, having Bunker be Red X would have been way better, because at least Bunker has some (admittedly limited) exposure in the DCU. Brick though, was just a non-entity, and now he's dead, so even more of a non-entity.
