Yeah, that's perfectly in character for Jason. Given the ages at play here being closer than in typical continuity, there's also reason to explain him beating Dick even once. Dick isn't going as hard as he could, Jason is. Dick is fighting by the Code. Jason doesn't give a crap about the Code. It also explains why he would steal Dick's villainsona in particular, since Jason as Red Hood would be shown to love playing games with Batman's mind via trolling hints to who he was. He did it as part of the Hush plot, and he did it again later on on his own time. It even makes sense for _exactly when_ this would need to be in Jason's own plot. If this is post-death but before Red Hood is a "thing", that means that this is during Jason's own training tour he did. He has no identity right now. Jason Todd is dead, but he isn't the Red Hood yet. So if he wants to test himself by pounding Dick, or needs to fund something, or needs tech, he's gotta have a spare identity. And what better way to do that while also poking Dick and Bruce in the sides than by taking on Robin's mantle? Also, there's a plot in the comics during One Year Later where Jason has stolen the Nightwing identity and is doing his usual thing of murderous justice.

I like to think that Red X is a version of Jason Todd who, instead of dying in Batman's care, possibly left and trained under Slade; it explains how he knew Robin took the mantle in the first place, and how he is able to beat Robin in combat, on top of the foundational similarities. I haven't watched in years, but I get the sense Red X has a superiority/inferiority complex situation like Jason Todd did, as a replacement to their respective mentors. Robin already "has a father", but maybe Red X didn't. Oh, and if I recall correctly, Slade did have a son he believed was killed. Sounds like an awfully convenient motivation to indoctrinate the son of an enemy for one's own means, whether it's simply strategy or a genuine emotional connection.

I personally like the theory that Red X is Slade’s oldest son Grant Wilson. In the comics he was Ravager. He wasn’t around for long in the comics but his death was sort of what spurred Deathstroke’s vendetta against the Titans. But since the cartoon reimagined a lot already. I could see him taking the Red X tech since it’d work symbolically given that he would see it as a symbolic thing to steal it from his father’s apprentice.

Jason Todd is taller in the comics, so maybe when he refers to robin as kid, his referring to his height in the fact that despite being older than him he is still a shorty and teasing him in that way. This having much more of an impact of him due to robins personality and ego, e.g. how slade used to antagonise him with his sly comments etc so X might be just trying to annoy and offend him as he knows he is the sort of person who would get frustrated and angry about it being called a kid. I’ve seen this done similarly in anime and other shows.

@@SuperDababy2 Right but it was never just going to only adapt the story of the tv show, like yeah characters and plots can be transferred over but that doesn't mean comics will continue the story or keep them the same as they were in other media. Unless Teen Titans had a dedicated comic series that continued it's story we weren't going to get the same Red X. We were going to get the main DC's version of Red X, which honestly may as well have been Red Hood. (Who himself was brought over from an animated movie.) The two biggest examples of Red Hood and Harley Quinn usually have differences with their original introduction. Whether those differences are there right away or added later is just all a matter of time. Red X wouldn't have been the same from the show, sooner or later they'd change something about him and take it in a different direction.

A lot of people are saying they believed Teen Titans Robin to be Tim Drake. I think that's probably because his design wasn't all that different from Tim Drake's in BTAS. However, The Robin from Teen Titans is confirmed to be Dick Grayson. In the episode that establishes Larry, an imp from another universe that's obsessed with Robin and is basically his own world's counterpart, his full name is revealed to be "Nosyarg Kcid" which is "Dick Grayson" backwards.

I think Hush and Red X inspired Jason Todd’s return to become Red Hood. I remember being so fascinated at the idea that Hush was a former Robin holding my favorite Robin Tim Drake hostage. I had no idea at the time who that former Robin was, until I learned he was Batman’s 2nd Robin Jason Todd. I always thought as a kid it was Dick Grayson, Tim Drake, and Stephanie Brown. Now things have changed a lot and I absolutely love Jason Todd lol

Not back in 2003 it wasn't. Prior to the mid-2000s, there was a saying in comic book fandom. "The only characters that stay dead in comics are Bucky, Uncle Ben, and Jason Todd." Two out of three were then resurrected, but it took an astounding _60 years_ to resurrect Bucky and 20 to resurrect Jason. This was before Jason was alive. This was back when it was seen as an absurd idea. They couldn't even refer to Jason dying in the show, so there was no way they could do a death-and-resurrection plot for Jason. They'd need to discuss the crowbar, and also Joker couldn't appear because Bat Embargo. But they did multiple episodes with Red X without answering the question. Why leave it unanswered? Well, what else would you do if there's no way you can get an answer past the editors? You just let the fans put it together.

I'd say it's possible that the writers who put Jason under the Red Hood took inspiration from Red X, but I feel relatively confident the idea of bringing Jason back as an anti-hero in some fashion predates TT. Even if Jason was only shown to be Red Hood in 05, the run itself started in 04, and more than likely was being planned out before even that. The timing would've been pretty tight for X to be used as a blueprint for Hood, but later on inspiration as to how he'd bounce off a bat family member is an entirely plausible notion.

I think the Anime inspired artsyle helped a lot. At the time the DC/Marvel Amimatiom style was being done to death. With Justice League, every batman spinoff, X-Men Evolution was airing. The Teen Titans artstyle was really appealing to the eye.

Actually, it was both. When Superboy-Prime revived Jason, it was as basically a zombie. He clawed his way out of the grave on pure instinct and was roaming Gotham as a mute hobo. Nonetheless, Ra's found out about him and proceeded to capture him. Ra's was trying to train him into a weapon to use against Batman, but Jason was still in his zombie state and pretty much just a braindead kill-in-defense zombie. Ra's said "screw this" and wanted him killed, but Talia shoved him into the pit and restored him to full life. And then she banged him. Seriously, if once is happenstance and twice is coincidence, Talia has one sex crime left before it reaches "conspiracy". She also raped Batman.

It could be possible that before turning into Red Hood he could had made a stint as Red X, also the "kid" argument against the idea that he might be Red Hood is not that good, as he might be using that as an insult knowing it would push Robin buttons since he hates being treated like a kid.

My theory has always been that Red X is a "failed" clone of Robin made by Slade that defected to male his own identity as Red X. Hence why he knows how to "play hero", has experience as a villain, and knows almost all of Robin's tricks. He refers to Robin as "kid" because he was aged to be older than Robin. When I was a kid I just thought that Red X was Dick Grayson from the future, which may sound dumb but think about it… Red X knew where the suit was. He had a similar fighting style to robin but was a little better. He flirted with starfire and called robin “kid” a lot. And starfire had already traveled to the future in season two. I think the more reasonable question to ask is, not who, but why and what. Why dis they make Red X? What was the intention behind his character as revealed to be someone other than Robin? What is the bigger picture they where building up to? I would suspect Terra might actually play quite a big role. Then again, Red X might have been Slade's version of Robin. A clone of Robin? Possibly the Terra that died as well? I'd explain why she has none of dead Terra's memories.

Also the reason why I chose you Robin is because he wanted to meet you face to face but after you rejected my offer he was angry cuz all he ever wanted was to meet you again. Then later when I encountered Tara they train together he was the brains and she was the Brawn. And later after my demise and her betrayal that's where he decided to take my place that's when he stole the Red X suit to become the next mercenary. Raven: that's bwhy he stole the suit he's trying to take your place. After your demise that we thought was complete. Slade: that is correct raven. And it was fun to see Jason and Robin to team up like brothers again as they used to Batman would have been so proud if he haven't let go of his stubbornness that consumes his past. Robin: he was my brother but not the one I remember. Slade: get used to it once you appreciate it. But now all it's left for Jason or should I say Red X is revenge. Cyborg: what do you mean I thought he's one of the good guys . Raven: and he says that we're even for now. Slade: that is if you promises to stay out of his way once he completes his main task. Robin: what task Slade? Slade: please call me Deathstroke. And second he's going after the man who was responsible for his life and he will end him tonight on Halloween because it's a frightful time of year. Look, I would love too say that it's Jason, he's also my favorite robin, but when looking at all the other ideas on beast boys conspiracy board it's made clear that Jason was put thare for the same reason the little time traveling Nightwing was, it was just a little Easter egg, and coupled with the idea of x being older than robin who is clearly i ment too be Dick, I think it's unlikely, but not impossible because even though red hood didn't appear as Jason until 2005, Jason himself returned in 2002 in batman hush, so it's not likely but the idea was on the table

As a pre-Post-Crisis comic reader since Jason Todd was still alive and well and Robin at the end of Crisis, I like the fact that he could very well still be Robin. I just wish at least a few months of the new merged Earth single universe stories were made. Especially seeing the heroes who still remembered the multiverse having to adjust to the differences of what I assume was mostly an Earth-One copy.

The animated one seems a bit like Speedy/Arsenal. Just like Slade giving Terra a powered up suit and pushing her anger... he could play on Speedy being envious of Robin. Or maybe it's some kinda android/clone of Robin just wearing the suit.
