I love those Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heros comics. They are really the only DC comics I collected as a kid. I felt the stories in the early to mid 70s were much more in-line with the Marvel comics I collected. I loved Jim Shooter's writing and Mike Grell's artwork.

I like the energy of you guys and I appreciate you looking and talking about books others don't give the time of day to its educational to a true comic lover not just a mony person chasing a buck of comics with no love for the art and story

Starman is my favourite series of all time. A beautiful self-contained story.

A few months back, I decided it was time to sell my Superboy & the Legion 197-258, and just keep the Superboy run (from early 1950s to #196). Was nice to clear those out (though I do still have the complete run of The Legion in Adventure Comics 300-380; won’t sell those!)

You didn’t convince me to spec on animal man but you DID convince me to read it. I completely missed out on this character and he sounds cool.

Haha. Believe me, I’m not trying to convince anyone to spec on animal man.

Rachel, I enjoy your show especially when your dad gets excited about comic books. Great show once again and I love Animal Man as well. My first introduction to Buddy Baker were those Action Comics, " Forgotten Heroes" teaming up with Superman issues. I bought them straight from the shelves when they first came out. These issues introduced me to the heroes I had previously known nothing about but have seeked out many of their past appearances. Thanks for the information. As an aside, I was curious as to why you didn't mention Animal Man, Vol.2 (2012-2014) that was lovingly written by Jeff Lemire during the New 52 era at DC comics. It has a great supernatural vibe and I enjoyed the series that lasted 29 issues, a zero issue and 2 annuals. Please tell your father if he doesn't already know.

Starman volume 1, that you showed, was not a member of the Knight family, and had different powers. His name was Will Payton. He did MEET David Knight, though. It was a fun series, I had it in my pulls. Volume 2 was indeed Jack Knight thought. Critically acclaimed, written by James Robinson.

I need that Superboy 197 in high grade!!! All the copies that end up on eBay look like someone’s got ahold of it lol.

Animal Man is one of my all-time favourite characters, and you're so right about the Strange Adventures issues being hard to find in high grade. I've got two copies of #180, a CGC 7.0 and a CGC 7.5, then my 184, 190, 195 and 201 are all raw and are 6.5 at best...I've been looking to upgrade them for years and they just never come around in higher grades.

A fun video! I have the same mindset when it comes to collecting golden age. There's so many hard to find characters from the 1940s that aren't necessarily valuable but just fun to hunt down and read.

I've only come across Strange Adventures #195 (4th Animal Man) in all my years of collecting, but I'm with you on the desire to collect those issues! Some correction for Starman: The 1988 series starred Will Payton as Starman, but David Knight's 1st appearance wasn't until issue 26. I worked at an LCS in 1994 when the Jack Knight Starman series debuted after Zero Hour. I bought copies for my favourite customers and told them they could keep it if they liked the story & wanted to add it to their pull boxes, or they could return it if they didn't like it. It became one of our most popular titles. I'm only part way through the video, so I'll stop commenting for now! ;)

I have asked on a few of ypur sales if you have any Hellblazer's, now that i know you have the full run i hope you might be parting with some of them. Missing most the 200's right to the tail end, a few in the mid 100's. The new series that just started isn't to bad, well only #1 out so far but it's showing some promise.

The strange adventure issues are tough to find in grade, and usually do pretty well. One is on heritage auctions this weekend in 8.5. I’m curious to see how it does. This video is more about collecting than speculating for a profit.

@@futurepastvintagecollectables I don't mean to be cruel, there's a reason 'NO ONE' is specing on that character as you put it. If he was a spec worthy character don't you think we'd all know about him by now? Next time you attend a Con, go around the room on camera and ask the average collector, "HI, do you collect Animal Man?" Watch the look of confusion wash over their features.
@Cyril-197310 ай бұрын
And that's perfect for the real connoisseurs (with the capacity to actualy read the damn books). Let them all spec on Disney while we buy our books cheap.
@futurepastvintagecollectables10 ай бұрын
Yeah, I don’t buy books based on the “crowd”. I am not a spec guy. I like books for lots of reasons. A great example is “the last of us” #1. It wasn’t on my radar until after I watched the show. I want a high grade copy, but I am willing to wait years to get it. I am not going to run out and get it, have no desire to sell it, I just want one because I like the show and want the book. I could care less it was $5 or $500 (just not $1500). I’m not concerned with buying low and selling high with my PC, but I am strategic with my purchases, and I am picky.
