@@1RoadGarage My question relates to automatic transmission oil - would you recommend using 0.5 litre DEXTRON 6 transmission oil in 5w30 engine oil 100 miles before scheduled oil change to remove any buildup in GMC YUKON 2013 (240,000 km) - there are no issues in engine, I just want to clean any built up over last 9 years. I flushed the trans & coolers in my '94 K2500 Suburban w/4L80E & 454 engine, and then installed a deep sump cast pan on it. Truck holds about 16 qts. total of Dexron 6 ATF and will darn near chirp the rear tires on a 1-2 shift. Truck has 153K miles on it. Ditto for my '14 Chrysler 300C hemi car, shifts super firm & smooth now as well. Great video, Jimmy!

Jimmy, Merry Christmas!!! I want you to know, ever since I found your channel, it's my #1.......I have a 93 Chevy suburban K1500 with 5.7 TBI with a couple more miles on it than your (239,000 miles)! And like you, I love it, and as much as possible try to do preventative maintenance before I have problems, and do everything myself. Your channel, (you specifically) along with my Haynes manual have been the 2 best points of reference and knowledge when it has come to wrenching on my suburban. I really just wanted to thank you for all your hard work you put in to spread your knowledge and love for these suburbans to the rest of us who are fortunate enough to see your videos. Watching your videos has helped me do cert as in tasks on my suburban that I never would have tried before on my own and really just would have left it go until more than likely it became a catastrophic problem. I used an electric fuel transfer pump on my 2016 sucked out about 1 gal from the pan and put in 4 quarts of fresh fluid and the trans runs great. In the Spring I will drop the pan and replace the filter and replace what ever is required. Using Amzoil fluid.

I recently picked up a 2002 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 with 63,000 miles and I’ve watched your videos for a long time. I’m thinking of going with a flow master 50 like you had on your 95 suburban and doing my transmission like you did. Also, I have those Auxbeam headlight bulbs a shot, again based on your video and now I’ve got them in all my vehicles and a few friends do too. I enjoy most of your videos. Keep it up.

@@jimmyschwarz6955 2008 with 86K on it. I have the 6L90 6 speed 18 bolt. You’re gonna wanna drop the pan to change the filter and clean the magnet. After that you can flush it like Jimmy did in his video. 🤙🏻

@@jimmyschwarz6955 I don’t know about the 2002 but on mine there is enough room to drop the pan without messing with the exhaust. I know people have clearance issues with the 1500’s.

This was really nice, you are like me. I have been working on my own Motorcycles and cars since I was about 12, 15 for cars. I had 2 years of Auto Mechanics in Vo-Tech in High School, that's it. I do about 90% of my ownn repairs, you know how to comunicate in every day terms. Keep it up!

Hi Jimmy, just came across your videos, brilliant i must say...i suppose its a bit like having a video call with a like minded friend, im also an old hand at this stuff of some 30 years and find your energy and manner very entertaining. my take on the auto tranny stuff is that your method of part old and part new ATF makes a lot of sense for the best of both worlds, leave a bit of the crap from the clutch plates in and replenish with some fresh stuff too. look forward to seeing some more videos!

Good video, as was the trans flushing one you did. One thing I don't care for though, is don't get "cutesy" on important information like "did the trans do okay, or were there any problems after the flush", or other things like that. The trans flush video was really good...in my opinion. Oh...one other thing...NEVER apologize for anything that relates to Christmas.

Very cool! My 94 Silverado bit the dust on multiple fronts. Had a great time working with that truck and following your old suburban. Switched to an 02 Silverado 1500 5.3l, so glad I can still watch along and change parts with your other GMs, too!

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 4x4. There was a TSB issued for your 2003 hard shift from 1st to 2nd. It’s a known issue that you should correct. Would be a great YT video. 👍🏻

95 GMC used your flush process with one change. Flushed oid fluid, then dropped pan and replaced filter. Added fluid topped off all good. Transmission shifting great 200k.

I used to work at a service station and an auto shop. A transmission flush machine typically uses the vehicles trans pump to transfer the old fluid out and pull the new fluid in. When people refer to "don't flush your transmission" is usually people don't service their vehicles, and laps services. By the time someone down the road flushes it, it's typically well over the 100k mark and the fluid is brown. That usually kills the transmission because all the dirt and grit in the trans is acting as friction material. As long as you service you vehicle regularly, like you do, you'll be totally fine.

I think it comes from worn out transmissions that are only still working because of the friction material suspended in the fluid and getting rid of that makes them stop working but ya if you are doing it before it gets there it's a good thing

I bought a 1998 Chevy K1500 recently, I use your videos and appreciate them. Recently got the Dorman door bushings you recommended. Turns out at this point those are not good parts. The bushings are not made the way the originals are. Made me think you could do a whole series of original vs low cost parts comparisons. I would watch those. Things I have to address on my suburban…visors, front seat upholstery, glove box and ashtray fixes, adding a winch, and a non original project of adding an accessory mounting bar over the top of the dash for radios and monitors. Hey Jimmy. Im I’m SouthAfrica and drive and 2005 Toyota fortuner V6 4.0 with a manual transportation. I’ve had the thought to change the trans and diff oil from the first time seeing the video of you changing the oil in your automatic trans. What are your thoughts on doing that with manual transmissions? I just need some persuasion because I can’t just get myself to just do it, part of it is just not being certain about if I really need to do it or not. Like I have never herd anyone talking about changing a manual transmission’s oil or having one break because of not servicing or changing the oil out. So please educate me if you have any information.

Transmission flush: some of the valve body bolts were loose. In my car it was the first 4 bolts in the torque sequence. It didn't want to go in reverse. Changed fluid filter and retorqued value body bolts. Loose bolts on the valve body cause internal leaking from one passage to another. To test for this just change the filter. I know a guy who blew the transmission in a Camry because of a clogged filter.

Inner diameter for tubing should match outer diameter for fitting. So 10mm ID hose matches to 10mm OD fitting

If a 1 qt change helped, that may be a good candidate for a pan drop and filter change. Doing so will not physically disturb the fluid in the passages/internals, just what's in the sump, 4 to 5 quarts, which is not quite half of the total volume of fluid in transmission. Just my $.02 hope this helps.

I change oil for a living, the way we service auto transmissions, we go through the dipstick tube, doesn’t add pressure to the transmissions, I will not service older transmissions 200,000 miles or more that don’t have service history.

Hey Jimmy, you are totally right about the transmission fluid getting “sticky” and causing worn out transmissions to keep working. I know this to be true because I got my 99 suburban with 150,000 miles for $900 because the previous owner changed the fluid and filter and then the transmission started slipping. His wife said no more money can go into that thing and that’s why I got it so cheap! Sick for him. Win for me haha. I got it rebuilt and im planning on changing my fluid every 25,000 miles. But yeah you’re totally correct!

I think you hit the nail on the head on the myth of trans fluid changes causing problems...people already had a problem and expected a fluid change to fix it. I flush my cars every 25-30k miles (the same way you've flushed your Suburbans) and have never had an issue. Trans fluid and a filter is less than a hundred bucks...a transmission is thousands, so it's better not to be lazy and chance it.
