No surprise degenerate combo to end the game quickly. Just straight beatdown with a lot of politics involved. Yes, the Stax deck was really unfun to watch. I kinda zoned out for half an hour browsing reddit and came back to more or less the same board state. Hey, that's my deck! To answer your questions Seth: There is one "combo" card that can steal games: Rally the Ancestors. By bringing back a lot of stuff, you can either draw tons and lab maniac, swing thanks to flame-kin zealot or upkeep win through epic struggle. There are engines like skullwinder + ghostway, fathom mage + cathars' crusade, shrieking drake + wild pair, notion thief + mikokoro. Kiki-Jiki is not there for some combo shenanigans, you're not even supposed to cast it, but having all those toolbox effects on a tap is just #value. Counterspell, Divination, Vindicate, Fog, Rampant Growth, Tormod's Crypt, Fork, Regrowth, Reanimate... you name it ! The mana base is clunky for a 5 colors deck, but the deck is really just bant with a few R/B cards. You don't even want to cast those (Ramos provides just enough of each color to play almost any card), but rather tutor them. Nykthos is a bit of a win-more stretch, but with all the green dorks it's nice to get that free ramp to get the more expensive stuff faster. Llanowar Reborn is a nightmare on modo, but it's there to grab a 2/2 using Wild Pair and a 1/1 if needed. There are few tutors, but it is by choice. My first Wild Pair EDH was more token centric than toolbox and had more tutors, but the game became too streamlined for me (bit of a dilemma when your key piece is a tutor) so I decided to reduce them and rely on draws to get there. SPOILER START I probably didn't playtest it enough, but what awful draws! No card draw or tutor, when that's like 1/6th of the deck. And you kept drawing the situational techs or game-enders instead of the cards that let you build your board in the first place. But I think the thing that made everything go downhill was killing Richard when both stax cards shut him down already. With the lands lost here, you could've kept fogging with Knight-Captain of Eos (when Elesh Norn was taken care of) and stall until you find a threat to win. Vince was already focusing Richard, so you wouldn't have risked a lot keeping him alive, and Richard would've likely helped take down Vince who was the biggest threat. SPOILER END Anyway, happy you at least liked the idea of the deck, thanks for choosing it :)

I'm so confused by Richard choosing not to kill Vince... what was to be gained from that? Tom's absolutely my favourite though after that XD Maybe stax isn't so bad in general (though I think that's debatable), but I think it's a shame with a series like this, where new decks are played each week, to have one deck play cards that just stop others from doing anything. It's one thing to have control elements - removal, counters, etc - that deal with specific or current problems because they're too good, but here it seemed like we didn't get to see much of what the other decks can do. Even Tom's deck, it felt like we only got a little taste. I'd feel even more disappointed if I'd submitted one of the other played decks that didn't get to do much. I wouldn't mind seeing stax if decks returned more frequently to show off what they do, but we'll likely never get to see these decks again.

Hey Vince, I actually like you, but there is a reason why no previous member of the Commander Clash played Stax or mass land destruction decks frequently. It's not because it is a weak archetype, it's because it is not an entertaining one. It's really boring to see people trying to play and not being able to. Just giving my opinion about the playstyle you have been going for in the last games.
@xlast90326 жыл бұрын
Yeah stax isn't very fun to play against and definitely not fun to watch.
@PleasantKenobi6 жыл бұрын
I have to defend myself once again. Mass Land destruction was a mistake - it was a short joke that led to long term misery and regret it. Stax is an interesting one; I thought this week we got to see a Monowhite deck come to the table and compete and encourage politics. Last week, as much as Seth seems to have managed to convince you all, I wasn't playing Stax. It was a control deck with big mana draw spells and Planeswalkers, that happened to have hateful enchantments. Sure, it locked Seth down hard - but that can happen to linear strategies. In short, I've only really played Stax TRUELY once. And that's enough. We've seen it, we've experienced it - the game had lots of action and politics, but people are ignoring that to jump to be mad simply because they hate Stax by default. There isn't much I can do about that, but I'll be playing something different next week that will undoubtedly ruffle some feathers.

PleasantKenobi Magic isn't all casting big flashy spells and wacky combos or just passively drawing cards all game. It's about trying to win, and having fun while doing it. Commander games need players who bring challenges to the table and that's all you've done. People got mad at Jen for the same reason. The 12-year-olds in the comments crying because you played a legitimate archetype can shove it, you're doing fine.
@Szykielet6 жыл бұрын
Stewart Haas "and having fun while doing it" and this is the part STAX is killing. It is subjective thing but it seems that majority of (vocal?) players don't like STAX, Infect or Land destruction for that matter. Honestly I play nearly exclusively commnander because for me it is casting flashy spells, wacky combos and big creatures that would be impossible in legacy or pauper. People come here for a specific content, we are used to certain type of gameplay, deck etc and when someone is bringing something new and people don't like it... I assume feedback and saying "it is meh..." is better than leaving the show. Calling somebody names because of this feedback and opinion... not cool. :) And as for politics and stuff maybe Queen Marchesa Will of the Council, Join forces and similar cards deck could be a thing?

It would be the triumph of linear decks. If you are playing a linear strategy (e.g. graveyard deck) you should also have ways to go around hate or else your deck is bad. I don't understand why Vince is getting hate for playing one of the worst mono-coloured decks. Yes it has stax effects in it, but without them mono white just gets steamrolled by the other decks. Decks need to have interaction because games are boring to watch if everybody is just sitting doing their own thing and not interacting with each other, which is what happens when players like Vince and Jen aren't here.
@ashra82816 жыл бұрын
Umm... no utter bs, mono white can do well without staxs, think voltron and tokens, or just life gain, combo, white can do all if you know how to build it. And white has the most interaction out of any colour it doesn't need staxs to do it
@TESDandino6 жыл бұрын
@@ashra8281 White and Red are the two weakest colours due to them having some of the worst card advantage engines in comparison to the other 3 colours. Yes, white has some decent interaction but if it tries to answer things one for one it just loses because it's card draw and ramp are just abysmal when compared to deck in blue, black or green. That's why in edh its better to go stax because it can't hope to outvalue 3 other decks so just bring them down to your level
@HarryBuddhaPalm6 жыл бұрын
He didn't have to play a mono-white deck or even a mono-colored deck. He could've payed anything he wanted.
@ashra82816 жыл бұрын
@@TESDandino or you could next level them. Mono white not having card advantage is bs, same with mono red. Land tax + scroll rack, endless horisons, well of wishes. Etali, the bb enchantment version of etali, prophetic flamespeaker. A few chandras, then there are the mono artifacts gor colours. Yes other decks have more don't get me wrong, but they don't have none. So while stax is a viable option, you don't need to play staxs to win at all. In either red or white. Don't rule out other archetypes because they don't have a divination, yes both colours have few cards that say just draw a card. But that doesn't mean they don't have card advantage. They just get it in different ways. Also any mono colour has acess to some of the best ramp, extra planar lens, sol ring, mana crypt, mana vault, caged sun, the guantlets... the best ramp is by far in artifacts, it's easier to disrupt than hour of devastation, but blue also has lack luster ramp, doesn't mean it doesn't have any. So to be realistic there are other archetypes and the reason people are hating is because stax is boring as fuck to watch, it's only slightly better than mass land destruction which Vince has played. Perhaps I'm picky, but it feels like the Bear deck needs more Bears. I mean it looks like Vince had more Bears than the Bear deck. This Moonfolk all over again, however at least we know Seth would run Bear Force One against Tomer's Moonfolk, lol. Also one more thing, I feel like Vince now has to run a Zo-Zu the Punisher deck to complete his transformation as the most "despised" player since Jake and possibly surpassing Jake, lol.

Oh man. I would love to but it's a bad idea I feel.

Come on Vince, give in to the dark side. You know what else you can run with Zo-Zu, Mana Barb and Eidolon of the Great Revel

seth forgot about playing ramos again before killing richard, ramos survives elesh norn and continues to grow when seth plays creatures that die to elesh norn.
