A more in depth explanation. Walking batista can remove counters to deal damage. Heliod says whenever you gain life put a counter on a creature you control. Giving lifeling to batista allows you to remove a counter to deal 1 damage which puts the counter back on and then goes infinite.

So it is obvious that she has not played much magic with all the missed triggers, confusion on sacrifice, and the interaction of the game. This is not a bad thing, I just wonder why your group did not coach her more. When we have a new player, it makes it far less painful if we keep track of their board and teach them about the game and tips, like scanning each of your cards on your upkeep, etc. It's always good to see a real casual game without all the star guests. This game was just like the old days with friends playing. Good times.

We definitely let her know about it after the game but we did not want to appear to be mansplaining to her or appear to coach her through her turns. There were a LOT of missed triggers and primary it’s because I personally wasn’t paying enough attention. For games in the future I’ll probably just have someone on set off camera letting us know when something goes wrong so we can just focus on the game and have fun. Thanks for the feedback though!

Well, it has to target. The board state I had built by the time she was out couldn’t be targeted. Check out that board state again and I’m sure you’ll see it this time as you probably missed it the first time. My whole board had shroud and that means that all my enchantments could not be the targets of spells or abilities. It’s similar to ward or hexproof but I can’t target my enchantments either. I can see how something like that can be confusing especially with so many permanents on the board like that. I hope this explanation helps!

Yes but what I'm trying to say is that commanders that are just good stuff commanders aren't really fun if all your doing is the same thing to win. Like Shorikai, just draw good stuff and win with a heliod ballista combo. They definitely should've played interaction but didn't but still a 2 drop with that ability usually plays the same as the time.
