His deck wasn't that great unfortunately. I just ran a bunch of ramp, board wipes, draw power, and some spot removal... no counter spells. These card types are always good as either casting for their effects, or creating a ton of flying dragons. You get mass control in multi-player games, draw power for card advantage, various spot removal for problem single permanents, and high cmcs for tons of dragon offense.

@@certainpointofreview 😄 The counter spells are fine that you're running. I didn't mean it to sound so personal, but I agree I could've used more tact to make my points clearer. So I'll try to be more tactful and precise with my criticisms, and more importantly my personal experiences running Elminster. Counter spells are fine, but I personally focused more on wipes and other board control spells. They cost more mana so they're good fodder for Elminster to create a large board of dragon tokens, yet they control EVERYONE'S board when needed for control. Hey to be fair too, we all play in different metas. I'm not playing in a meta where instant win cards, janky win cons, jank combos, and so forth are as prevalent. In those cases, a counter spell is obviously useful, and seven isn't a high amount to run. I just pile on the mass removal every 2 secs to keep the board honest when needed, and use those same spells for a giant board of flying tokens when the control isn't needed. My point is that they're better throughout a game to control everyone defensively and threaten game winning offense whenever you want which is even more potent after you board wipe. The counter spells offer a response to specific things that need answering on the stack, but they only control one spell and the low cmc doesn't offer much offensive utility for dragon tokens. I don't fault you for running the counter spells if your meta requires it, so I apologize if I came off as an elitist or perfectionist.

Just had my gf preorder the cap n’gathrod precon today. Im planning to add in umbris and toxrill, fix the tapped lands and bad rocks, and keep it as a relatively casual deck with the background commander at the helm instead.

I was looking at the minsc and boo list and saw protean hulk, I wonder what that protean hulk line is

Break hulk to find goblin recruiter, conspicuous snoop, torch courier and skirk prospector. Recruiter finds kiki jiki, mog fanatic, makes kiki the top card. Sac courier to give snoop haste. Snoop has the kiki ability, so tap it to make a hasty copy of itself, do that with the copy, repeat and make 1000 snoops. Sacrifice 5 to skirk prospector for 5 red mana, cast kiki off the top. Mog fanatic is now the top card, so all your snoops gain the ability. Sac them all for lethal damage

I wanted to ask since I don't see a lot of people talking about bhaal, lord of murder but doesn't he work extremely well with persist? or am I wrong about that?

You are right, and you can see the decklist in the description of the video. It basically replaces Melira if you have 2 creatures with persist.

Cedh means optimized decks, he's not even close to Korvold or even Prossh I'd say.

@@damo9961 he is a combo piece for persist infinites. Prossh is a sac outlet. And korvold is a value engine. Bhaal, viscera and redcap are infinite. Having that +1/+1 counter generator in the command zone is really good.

@@thezerowulf2046 Yeah and it's still not that good. You need two persist creatures or you could just have 1 + Grumgully or Melira. Plus you need a sac outlet so it's a 4 card combo - doesn't fit the definition if Cedh, seems more high power to me.

Wouldn't almost any jund commander be better than Bhaal in that deck? He seems very underwhelming. Sure he won a game but Just vanilla RGB would have done as well.
