Commander Solo does seem like a fun puzzle, and this game was definitely a bit closer than the earlier ones, but it still does feel like it's often going to be pretty easy. I've been pondering ideas to make it tighter. I thought about "The Villain starts the game Under Pressure", and also "You can only play one Ally card between each Villain activation", but those mostly just make the game *shorter* which is kind of a boring way to fix it. I thought about setting the Villain up as if you were playing a 3-player game rather than 2-player, but I went to try that on Emma Frost and realized that actually makes fighting her *easier*, not harder. My next idea is to try changing the composition of the Ally deck, because I think the ease of the game is coming because you can just do too much stuff between Villain activations. Something like making the Ally deck with two cards with special actions and two cards *without* special actions from three Heroes. I think that would feel a bit more like playing an actual four-player game. Might try that out tonight.

Yep completely agree on all points. I really really like that last idea of not using all the special cards. Could add even more variety as well. I don’t know if you watched the last live stream but Andreas said he highly recommended the Complications from the Annihilation for Commander. Now it’s not great that you have to buy a whole different expansion to make it better lol but I am looking forward to trying that 👍

I was thinking it might be better to do 4 cards from 3 supporting heroes instead, using their single Wild if they only have 3 special effects. This makes really swingy heroes with high card variance like Longshot, Cyclops FC or Dagger less strong, and puts some air into S1 hero decks.

@@robmarney That's similar to what I suggested above, yeah. I'd actually try it with 2 special and 2 non-special (undecided whether that could include the single/double wilds or not), so that the Ally deck is only half special cards. That lowers the potency of that deck a lot, and also means you have to choose to take some not-so-awesome Ally turns just to dig out their cooler cards. That feels like it comes closer to replicating the way a real game plays out.

This game really benefits from painted minis ... Daredevil is also my fav marvel hero - great choice for getting painted!

Excellent game! I can see Commander Solo mode seeming easier because you add your allies' strongest cards to your pool without being thinned down with their main decks. You know, I don't have the time or ability to stream games. I'm happy these minis can see some action online!

I enjoy the sort of blind-run through with villains. When you don't know what to expect, you're not tailoring your team specifically for the villain. We Gamers can fall into that sometimes.

Yes for sure. One thing I have not figured out yet about this game is what is the “right” way to play. Is it considered “cheating” by the community to pick good locations/hero’s for your villain? Or should it be mostly random?

@GetUpandGame I like the idea of 2 special, 1 main card for Commander solo. In 3 handed, your Heroes can spread out more, but then they're Aldo more likely to suffer a BAM! I'm not sure what's optimal, so I think it's down to what you prefer. Commander solo sort of reminds me of Marvel Champions' true-solo with allies. I think the locations are supposed to be random. There are some that are more and less beneficial to players. Many of the locations are themed, so it may not make sense to play The Golden City and Asgard unless you want to. I think that's down to personal preference. There are charts & card separators on the bgg files section, which show how many heroic, physical, & movement values each hero deck has. Again, you could arrange your team for maximum efficiency or go with a totally thematic team, even if they aren't super strong into the villain. I think part of the fun is making heroes work, even when they aren't the strongest.

Hahaha yeahhhh that’s why mine will never be painted lol. The amount of content for this game is beyond insane! But it was an absolute blast getting to play with the ones Nick sent me! And maybe down the road we’ll be able to do it again 🤞😃

I've recently embarked on painting everything for Marvel/X-Men United. Honestly, these minis paint quicker than things I've painted in the past and I assume it's because of their scale and chunky details. I think this game would be a great one to use as your first painting endeavor! I've knocked out the base game and guardians of the galaxy expansion in a few weeks (and that's with having a baby at home!).

Just started the video. I don’t have MU but I was curious: does each box come with “painting” instructions or even paint, or do you need to DIY? Cuz I’d probably mess it up 😅😅😅 P.S. YAY Daredevil Vs Kingpin!!! Can’t wait for them to come to Marvel Champions

Sadly it does not. When it comes to painting minis you just gotta put it all together yourself lol. It’s really a hobby within a hobby. Thankfully there are usually painting guides online for popular games, and there are a ton of helpful resources to make it easier than you might think! Me too! I figured since I can’t play them there I might as well enjoy them here! 😆
