Man, I absolutely adore this game. I already love the story of the Czech Legion, to see it brought to life not only so faithfully but also in a very creative and unique game format - I love it. The train is a unique and interesting mechanic, having to maintain it and keep the various needs supplied is engaging and the actual combat is very fun, though I would say it's definitely the jankiest part of the game, specifically in regards to stealth. But once bushes were introduced, stealth became a lot nicer.

I'm back to releasing videos btw! Been gone a lot this year for a variety of reasons, mostly personal, some of them for the same reason I ended up at the front in Ukraine. Really want to get back to releasing videos and streaming on a consistent schedule again, as I've been missing it hard, and I have a lot of videos I'd love to work on. Already have several videos ready in the backlog with more to edit. Enjoy! EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm streaming over on Twitch because streaming on KZbin was negatively affecting the channel, sadly.

Here's a (translated) exempt from a book by a White general-leutenant of Kolchak's army, Konstantin Sakharov: "After retreating to the backlines Czechs also begun accumulating their loot there. It was astounishing not only in quantity but also in diversity. ... Czechs even had no shame in claiming as their prize the library and laboratory of Perm's university. The exact value of stolen by Czechs is uncountable. By most conservative estimates this so called tribute costed russian people many hundreds of millions of golden rubles." - Сахаров К.В. "Белая Сибирь." Looks like your idealised view of Czechoslovakian Legion is just wrong if even sworn enemies of Bolsheviks say things like that.

The story of Czechoslovak Legion was so much sought out by people in interwar Czechoslovakia that it had created entire genre of literature called "Legionare literature" which we czechs count between classics of our literal history. Btw. Captain Langer character was inspired by real legionarie, František Langer who was later one of the authors of "Legionaire literature".

(Poland was created and we basically had the same flag lmao) Funnily enough, it almost became the Czech flag again in December 1992, when during the govermental debates about the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, a Slovak senator brought up an agreement, to which the slovak side agreed, that said something like: "Neither of the successor states should have the Czechoslovak flag, as Czechoslovakia will not exist anymore" and one of the quick Czech propositions was the exact red and white flag with the Český lev. This looks amazing, I just hope it doesn’t focus squarely on the reds, it has a great chance to explore the Russian civil war and also there’s a lot of wild Czechoslovak legion stories with almost every faction in the civil war (reds, whites, greens and even the Japanese iirc). I just hope it’s not all "fighting the dirty reds" "we’ll show them there’s an alternative to the reds" and hopefully we’ll see more of the whites and things like the greens the further east the game progresses. (Basically hopefully more then 1 enemy, cus there’s a lot to the Russian civil war more then "reds bad")

I agree, the civil war had many parties, but Czechoslovak legion fought almost exclusively against the reds, since they were those who wanted to either dismantle or forcibly conscript the legionaries. Since the journey takes us to the east, I am afraid that we will probably only meet reds, whites and other nationalities, while greens operated (correct me if I am wrong) mostly on the other side of the Ural, where was greater population density and where populace resisted war communism (looting and forced conscription).

TBH I'm not in love with a game about Czech legions, because the victims have a very different story of what Czech legions march was like. In short, Czechs were hated by absolutely all factions of the Russian civil war, and arguably both bear most of the blame for starting it and are guilty of most war crimes per member (if we don't count small crazy bands like Baron Ungern and such). OTOH, it's nice to see some East Euro history wargames, even if it's a very whitewashed story.

This is quite a lot caused by Russians needed to blame it all on someone. Communists hate the Legion for obvious reasons and Whites because the Legion "betrayed" Kolchak. @@ondrejsedlar7003 Lol yeah like every war crime IRA committed can be disproved by Irish historians, amirite? Czechs started their path of destruction by overthrowing the local governments, i.e. mass executions of local Soviet sympathizers (reminder Soviets were the majority ruling party with no effective opposition up to this point), as well as executing anyone who looked funny or had something worth stealing. After some rear action, Bolshevik armies organized against the Czech threat and the legion was not interested in fighting actual army units rather than village militias. So they spent next couple years away from the frontline in "rearguard duties", AKA executing and robbing unarmed peasants. Oh, they were also very busy running away and betraying the whites when it was convenient.

To me. The march of the Czechoslovak legion to me is by far the greatest military march of all time. To truly understand how far they went. They started in Eastern Europe (primarily the Volga river) and they managed to make it ALL THE WAY TO A PORT IN VLADIVOSTOK! By TRAIN during a violent and bloody civil war so they could by the end take a boat all the way around the world to get back home. That is literally over 9000 kilometers of distance that was needed to be achieved with a Train.

To put that into perspective the journey from the Shire to Mordor was less than half that distance, and that's only counting their trek to Vladivostok

Never thought a Rimmy video would greet me with my own language. I've always thought that this story of the Czechoslovak Legionnaires would make for a perfect game or a series and now it's finally happening. I'm really happy you're showing it to the world here and that you are enjoying it. I've played the demo myself and did a full stealth run. It took me forever and I had to reload the game a million times, but I did manage to get through the entire demo without any of my legionnaires taking a single hit. I probably wouldn't recommend playing the game like that but it is certainly an option :D

A bloody amazing game it is. I binged the demo and made sure to have no losses. Characters feel just way too...full of character. Also respect for visiting the front line. I ended my deployment some time ago after weeks of fighting. You have BALLS man. Again great respect. And glad to have you back, I missed your content.

This game just _oozes_ charm in every single way, I'm absolutely going to play it when it comes out. The fact its inspired by a neat part of history i'd not heard of until now just makes it cooler. I may have actually read something inspired by the legion in hindsight, maybe. Would Alistair McLean's Partisans count?

I have just the scenario! Historically the legion was making such quick progress that the reds were afraid that they knew the location that the Tsar and his family was being kept and ordered their execution to prevent his liberation. In fact the legion had no idea but what if they had intercepted the runner on route to the safehouse and decided to mount a rescue mission

This game look SO DAMN SPECTECULAR, I just found out about it and everything about it seems to hit the spot right on the head for me. One of my favorite games is dawn of war 2 because i love comanding small specialized troops and making squads fit for every situation, I love the logistical aspect which this game is handeling VERY well so far and as a fan of the Guardsmen in warhammer whom are based on this era so that strikes a cord with me too. This project is a passion driven game which definitely shows. I will be buying this game on release, that is something i don't normally do with games from lesser known developers but after this they will get my faith that they know what they are doing.

What an interesting interpretation of the beginning of the Czechoslovak Legion uprising. What really happened: From May 14 to May 17, 1918, two trains converged at the Chelyabinsk railway station - one with Hungarian prisoners of war who were repatriated to Austria-Hungary, the other with the Czechoslovak Regiment (one of the units of the Legion), which was sent to Vladivostok (i.e. across the country) at the request of the Entente, also to be returned, but to France (where the Czechoslovak government was located). When the train with Hungarians started to leave, Johann Malik came out of the last carriage, swore in Hungarian and threw a piece of cast iron stove at one of the Czechs, hitting Frantisek Duhacek in the head, the latter received a concussion and lost consciousness (he was wearing a helmet). The Czechs overtook the train, stopped it by force, took out 80 men, beat them severely, after which, having beaten the confession out of the prisoners, who did it, they gutted Malik with bayonets. The Chelyabinsk authorities set up a commission to investigate the incident, and detained 10 people suspected of being the instigators. the next day a Czech delegation came to them demanding the release of the suspects, threatening the authorities with weapons. They too were disarmed and taken into custody. The Czechs responded by seizing the city center, looting the central arsenal, and burning down the Chelyabinsk administration building. In parallel, two other towns in the area of the Chelyabinsk section of the railroad were also seized. On May 21, the legion command was arrested by the Bolsheviks and, under pressure, issued an order to disarm all Czechs. At this time, a congress of the commanders of the Legion units took place in Chelyabinsk, where an officers' council was elected to take command of the entire corps, after which this council sent telegrams to all other units ordering them not to surrender their weapons and to prepare for battle. A telegram was sent to the (now former) legion command in Moscow informing them that their orders would be ignored. Somehow, this doesn't sound very much like the heroes the game tries to portray the Czechoslovak Legion as. Rather, they are the bandits who started the Civil War, becoming at first the main source of weapons and the fighting backbone of the White Movement. Although, of course, the 20-25 million died in the Russian Civil War is nothing compared to one Czech getting hit in the head with a piece of cast iron.
